Kylo Ren Hasbro Force FX Lightsaber

I have to admit, I haven't had that urge to be the first kid on the block to get a particular toy in a LONG time.

I even called my Mom to have her pull the Target coupon out of the recycling... :facepalm

I was waiting on this rather than buying a fan made guess-work saber... I guess I assumed that they would have all the reference to make a great saber...

Nope.

Well now I just have to see if someone does an accurate static hilt based on the hero prop (I can't see this being off the hero prop).

Their removable blade ANH Luke saber is really good in proportion, just a bit thicker than a real graflex, and I believe their ANH Vader was almost an exact size match to an MPP as well.

Yeah, I'm going to have to pass on the Kylo, but I'm hoping the new Vader they're doing is basically just a reissue of that one and not a new crappier permanent blade one.

Any news on the graflex? My source is working as we speak and he hasn't seen anything yet!

I don't mind it. Seeing the video of it in full, it doesn't look so bad to me. Of course they can't make the side blades half an inch thick on a mass-produced product. Force-fx are take it or leave it. None of them are perfect, it's more about how you value high-end toys. I think it's cool enough that it will be fun to have along to the movie. Again, the obi-wan and luke ROTJ look terrible in photos, but not so bad in person and those are the MOST overweight looking.

Once you get to the $200 dollar price tag, quality becomes an issue. It doesn't take much to do it right. It's lazy.

Is it $200? That doesn't seem like a huge ask considering how much the Maul saber was. And it's still a toy. Don't like it, don't buy it.

I meant the force fx kylo, not the rubies?

And as for this being a "toy"..

No, it's not. But it looks like one. That's the complaint.

It's a collectible. A showpiece. An expensive one.

If I'm paying $200 plus tax on a collectible lightsaber, I think it should resemble the lightsaber from the movie!

Come on guys, it's still a toy. It's just that it's an adult toy. Wait... Hmm. Not sure that's the best way to describe it. ;)

One of my favorite saying is this... "The only difference between men and boys in the price of their toys.".

Toy or not, obviously the more something costs, the better it should be. Hasbro made the Kylo Ren saber much bulkier and inaccurate than it had to be, for the price they're selling it at... or any other price for that matter.

My buddy bought me the Slayer Scythe from Buffy... it's essentially a no-electronics axe... it was around 300-350 bucks... and while grateful, I couldn't help but immediately think "Why is it so short?

It's like 6 inches to a foot shorter than the one on TV.

for that price... DO IT RIGHT.

And yeah... high end toy... so what? Put it on model.

Just remember, the prop we have seen is a crappy stunt casting, they didnt even bother to clean up the mold seam lines or bubbles, and the pommel area isnt hollow as it now appears it should be (see all Hasbro sabers AND Rubies saber.) So who else knows what else isnt right on that stunt saber. I'm sure Hasbro has seen better pictures of the Hero prop than any of us have.

You can't forget that the stunt saber would have almost certainly been cast directly from a hero copy. On a movie with such a big budget I can't imagine them having to fabricate their own stunt saber to mold.

Obviously they didn't mold it very well (where you at JJ? Hit me up!) but there is NO way that the proportions would slip that much. It just doesn't happen.

All I'm hoping for is that the hilt is some kind of metal or metal feel. Other wise I think it looks great .
