Kylo Ren Hasbro Force FX Lightsaber

Wait a minute... I was just looking at EW Aug 21/28 Cover of Kylo holding this thing ignited and the cross guard part looks a LOT more like the FX toy coming out tomorrow night than it does on the celebration display piece. The side parts are definitely shorter like this FX. Am I crazy?

The side guard ports only stick out about the same size as the top hole (like the FX), whereas they are 2x as long on the Celebration display.

I realize this is a front to back comparison, but you can still get an idea about how off the proportions seem to be.

With the magazine laid down on my desk it appears that the distance for the cross guard prong is ~ 1/2 cm, as is the size of the blade port on top.

Looking at the 2 photos you posted, it seems the bottom one has a thiner blade?

Sounds like their may be some confusion on who made what. In case that is so, MR did not make the removable blade versions, Hasbro did. MR and Hasbro never made Force FX sabers at the same time. Hasbro took over when MR lost the contract. The first few runs of sabers from Hasbro had fixed blades.

i was not thrilled with the force fx because like most (wind most notably and luke rotj) they really fatten it up and you lose some depth. Honestly I am not thrilled with the pain job either i just repainted my rubies flick kylo ren and I like it better lol. overall i think its great they made it but i'll be passing on this one. its easier to mod a flick saber from parts and get a bit more accuracy, the hasbro flick saber looks pretty close. thats just my opinion though. hope they release the 'fin' graflex.

The way it went down is the last saber made by Master Replicas was the 2007 Luke ANH. They lost the license in 2007 and Hasbro picked it up. Hasbro then released the 2007 Luke ANH and literally the only difference between them is the lettering on the end cap. One says MR and the other says Hasbro and both are fixed blade. Now the 2010 Hasbro Luke ANH took AAAs instead of AAS, had the remastered ANH sound fonts and the removable blade. But even it is identical in external appearance to the 2007s. I have all three.

Just remember, the prop we have seen is a crappy stunt casting, they didnt even bother to clean up the mold seam lines or bubbles, and the pommel area isnt hollow as it now appears it should be (see all Hasbro sabers AND Rubies saber.) So who else knows what else isnt right on that stunt saber. I'm sure Hasbro has seen better pictures of the Hero prop than any of us have.

Just for the record, wasn't the prop on display at SWCA labeled as a 3D Print? That being said, I doubt any stunt versions were "cast" in the traditional sense ... wouldn't it be easier to just reprint from the same file? Unless the hero prop is actually metal and they just printed up some stunt casts, and displayed one at Celebration. Honestly, I've gotten over the part where I think the three-bladed design is silly, but I just can't get over how terrible that display hilt looked. Here's to hoping it wasn't the hero!

I have never seen a stunt casting printed. A model to mold to make stunts? Sure, those could be printed.. the stunt casts themselves are typically cast of soft rubber..so you can, you know.. do stunts with them. Most likely the reason the side emitters were drooping down as well..

Furthermore, if I'm not mistaking, I recall seeing a (very sloppy) parting line down the saber. It definitely looks molded, and the piece cast out of rubber.

I cannot lie. This particular FX lightsaber looks wicked fun. I've got a lot of replicas that aren't 100% accurate to the original prop, but I'm not 100% roleplaying as Luke Skywalker when I'm playing with his FX Lightsaber. If the details are different, than heck. All the better to say that this lightsaber is your own thing. And I just love the electronics on this piece like how the main blade ignites first while the side ones ignite afterwards. Very thematic.

Also in that video. Is it just me, or does the idle noise sound a lot like Aunt Beru's food machine?

Agreed, but I do recall seeing a wider photo of the saber where you can see it's plaque, which read "3D Print" ... I'll scour the RPF and see if I can't find that photo.

It was 100%a casting, there is a huge seamline with bubbles in it and various other bubbles throughout the saber, something that wouldnt be present on a printing. It has all the tells of a casting. I'm sure the original sculpt was 3D printed, but this prop was a foam or resin casting.

Perhaps its a 3D print of a stunt saber. That's pretty much the only thing that makes sense as there was a mold line and droopy side emitters.

Edit:

Nah... just a error with the card. Some intern lost his job on that one. :rolleyes

So, been watching the Star Wars Global Toy Unboxing event, and they showed the 3ft tall Kylo Ren figure, and it looks like the lightsaber has a smaller diameter midsection, just like the stunt cast.

It's a shame the FX Lightsaber isn't accurate to all the other depictions of KR's lightsaber...

Even Hasbro's own electronic and extendable toy sabers have the smaller grip section. I've got to imagine it's just something to do with the guts of the FX taking up more room than they need to.

I know this is a kylo thread, but no pictures of the graflex?

Pretty cool that the blades have a flame texture. Any pics of the Park exclusive one?

I still plan on getting the FX saber tonight, so Ill post pics and video once I get home, as well as comparison to a few other sabers.
