Kylo Ren Fabric

This is a basket weave, and I am not sure if anyone has posted about this particular fabric before but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on it.
Thanks. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

"Here's where it get confusing, when you say "is the outer tunic of basket weave cotton and it is sleeveless." The next layer which was visible in person and in some shots is a pleated wool midcoat. Then there are sleeves (pleated) and cotton."

Actually, I said.. "there is the outer tunic of basket weave cotton and it is sleeveless" The information about it being that type of fabric is taken from the plaque inside the case at CVII.

I did find an image of the boots after I posted this so that question is mute at this point but thanks for posting the video :)

The plaque states that the innermost layer is cotton and the middle layer is wool. I observed one of the photos taken from the left side with a lower view looking up and see that the middle layer is pleated but that the sleeves come from the innermost layer. Look closely under the armpit at the front. The sleeve comes from the innermost layer and the middle layer is pleated... unless someone got tricky and inset the sleeve in some weird fashion.
Is that how others see it?pleats.jpg

you say you have pictures of the boots?
could you please share?

thanks

the photo from the Vanity Fair shoot shows him in the snow with both tunic layers blowing and the boots are exposed. I do not want to derail the Fabric thread but will attach this once I figure out how. boots!!.PNG. Tall black but with three bands. Looks knee high.

Go to the sithlord 501st forums. We have more pics of the boots as well as the one posted above

Yep thats right ^^

I was 3 inches from the costume in person the sleeves are a different material completely from the wool midcoat. The midcoat was fuzzy and the sleeves were a cotton with a strange weave. Was like a ton of dots.

Can anyone here share the template on how to cut the fabric for the hood part and the upper chest?

I am going to make a display bust of Kylo, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Control+F and type cape, i have a super simple pattern.

Its basically a hole in an off square with a bit of hanging material its pulled around the body and up onto the shoulders. I just sewed mine slightly to keep its shape. Mine is VERY back heavy and chokes me XD

Thanks Dawn! Amazing work!

Didn't realise the hood was just 2 semi circular shapes sewn together. I assume you don't sew the 2 completely together right? About 3/4 ways so the remainder can be tucked under the off square hole?

hey guys i think i tracked down the correct sleev fabric today

Cotton Duck Canvas

the weave is consistent with the Exhibit and i know duck canvas to wear sin a similar fashion and go a shade lighter under wear (as seen on the edges of the pleats where the shading is slightly lighter

i have four weights on order as a sample 10, 12, 16 and 21 oz

I'll let you know how they feel when they arrive:

Image is to show the weave only (correct is obviously black)

The lightest variant should not be. It's probably why the sleeves have zippers and why they do not meet panels with pleats at the shoulders; movement would be too constricted. It's stiff, yes but not incredibly so. I identified the fabric a while back (mentioned either here or at the Sith forum that it was the same stuff I used in my Star Lord pants) but I haven't gotten around to getting any yet. Can't recall the weight of the fabric I used at the moment.

Duck cloth by classification means "linen canvas" it by nature is thick.

I myself managed to find the same pin point design in a thin material (I found it more than once now) and I used 5 yards length for the 37 pleats in mine. The sleeves are incredibly thick due to the pleats so finding thin material is a must point. I've made the sleeves three times now and thick is bad. It bulks them and they look ugly and clunky.

are you able to share the weave name ? perhaps i can track some UK samples ^^

You know the issue is I bought both the cotton weaves in the fabric district. There are never any names on the materials :( I will for sure post it here if I can manage to find a name! :)
