Kylo Ren Fabric

Wowsas!! Sni9per, how are you going to coat it? I'll be really interested to see how this comes out. The fabric looks fantastic on the arm. Well done champion and thank you so very much for sharing all your information. You're awesome!

I'm on the fence on this as will add an extra cost to ship to a supplier and have coated and then shipped to me ill add it as an option to investigate but in this early stage I will offer the fabric as is for you to coat if a majority want to pay more I will look into it but price pending I want to make it accessible price wise I think the coating may be do-able at home

I wasn't even planning a Kylo and I think that fabric is gorgeous. I almost want some just to make a cloak out of to have. Great job.

The manufacturer can make as much as you want? Sign me up! :D

So I spoke with the mill today and confirmed a few things:

- There will be a small correction on the weave (where is a minor issue where one weft skips the pattern incorrectly very minor easy fix)

- The Delivery time will be 14 weeks (factoring in a 2 week shutdown they have planned in august)

- The Weight is 425g per meter

- The Width is 1400mm (140cm)

- The Shrinkage is estimated at <3%

- The Fabric is DRY CLEAN ONLY

- The Fabric is 100% Cotton

PRICE:

Now the part your really interested in. the mill have done their very best to offer me a reasonable price for the fabric considering the interest

- The Price will be £20 per Meter

For a custom woven fabric I've been told this is a very reasonable price.

DELIVERY:

Assuming I set the thread up tonight and everyone pays up within this week I can order for a projected delivery date of: 09/09/2015 bare in mind this is the delivery date to me not you, please factor in shipping time from the UK I will work tirelessly to get this out to you as soon as I can please allow me at least 2 weeks to dispatch (more if there will be much more than 100 meters)

Shipping will be billed separately from the fabric at a later date. feel free to use the estimated weights and sizes listed above to give you an idea of the shipping costs and don't forget i will need to purchase suitable bagging/boxes to ship with!

PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST TO BE ADDED TO THE RUN HERE, THIS IS AN INFORMATION THREAD ONLY (feel free to discuss excitement merryment and general awe but keep the "sign me up" posts for later I would very much like to keep this post within the rules of the RPF as the fine establishment it is) THE RUN THREAD WILL BE POSTED LATER THIS EVENING IN THE PROJECT RUN FORUM. I WILL ANNOUNCE THIS HERE FIRST

Sni9er;

So the question is.. how much fabric does each person need :D

It will vary based on size, but maybe figuring out a reference chart in the project thread would be great as well.

i think 10/11 meters should be reasonable from the discussions i've seen

I don't get why you'd need so much though, even if you're 2 meters tall, unless you are counting on having a lot extra for mistakes. A little more than two times the length of the garment should be enough for the actual body, then figure two meters or a little more for the hood and "scarf". It's not a complex pattern really and you don't have the arms, collar or inside hems to deal with, like you would on a jacket. The skirt doesn't really look THAT wide either, so it's not like a Matrix trenchcoat where you have a whole back full of pleats and billowing. You ideally want the body panels to line up fairly straight to keep the fabric flowing cohesively, but the hood and scarf will let you get more "creative" with pattern-placement if you want to save on fabric even more.

On another note: I'm going to shelve my own Kylo until late winter due to an increased workload (too many Guardians of the Galaxy things still going), so the fabric I dyed is up for grabs in the JY...

these are only the words i've heard from those who will be sewing i'm knot so knowledgeable on the actual side of sewing

perhaps someone can give some insight

dawn ?

I've sewn a few jackets in my days... one Matrix trench and a Hellboy trench are probably the longest I've done. I think I bought 5 meters for the Matrix one and that coat was SUPER wide, almost dragged on the floor and had a yoke on the back. Disclaimer though: I am NOT a professional tailor... always take into account your own body shape and size when calculating.

Look at this pattern for example:
http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/jacquard-trenchcoat-122013

You need 4 meters for even the largest size. Yes, it IS maybe 25-30cm shorter than what you need for a Kylo coat BUT at the same time you can take away: pockets, sleeves, collar, body yoke, inner hem panels and other details which saves you quite a bit of fabric. Then you need to add some for the hood.

Shipping from the UK to Australia is going to kill me. Unfortunately I'm out for the fabric run. Will have to find another source more locally.

Sni9er, I'll grab your images and post it around locally and hopefully have some luck. I think I speak on behalf of a ton of people here on The RPF who have appreciated all your help with sourcing this hard to find fabric. Congrats dude and look forward to the build threads.

Regards
Sarah.

I absolutely understand the fabric price is great for a custom weave but i know shipping will murder some folk !!

Re: Kylo Ren Fabric - Gloves

Little off topic: Gloves.
I've spent hours of searching, I think the gloves are custom made like the fabric.
The closest I have found were these gloves on ebay for $16USD "Men's dark black smart touch leather gloves". (found them on Amazon too)
They will need the additional finger lines and knuckle guards added, but the bands across the back of the hand look very close in person.
So sharing instead of lurking in the forums like I usually do.

Hi guys , i just joined ... Sorry if i'm late to this Fabric hunt you guys are on.

But i found this fabric on Amazon (don't know if i can add links to sales - but search for this phrase & you'll find it. )

CHENILLE SOLID BASKET WEAVE BLACK FABRIC

it's sold by the yard - 59" wide , has a slightly reflective sheen when light catches it & is as close as i've found myself. Ironically its made by a company who could have direct connections to the Empire. based in california.

They don't ship to UK unfortunately , so i'll need to get something similar for myself :(

Even with the shipping it's not a bad cost for custom fabric. There are lots of designer fabrics that cost a lot more. Some of the upholstery weaves I looked at cost well over $100 per meter! Note: for those on a tighter budget, I've got a batch of fabric in the junkyard, since I've decided to not do anything Kylo-related for a few months at least.
