Just Getting Started...Please Critique My BILLY Props Display

The CCL website definitely still has the CR2032 versions...but not CR2450.

I found them by Googling "CR2032 usb converter". If you do the same for CR2450, you'll notice that "Battery Eliminator Store" has them, although they're very expensive. Perhaps the CR2032 converter can be made to work with some conductive padding?

I also found a this on YouTube:

Or if I could find a 2032 powered remote candle of similar size, I could use that one. I thought I found one (Amazon's search is useless as it refuses to only return the results you actually ask for so I have to use an outside search engine), but it says it's now 'upgraded' to use 2450 (lasts longer). Yeah, not as long as a converter with AC power. I'm also a bit concerned about how many I have scattered far from one another (e.g. like the Ark of the Covenant one sitting on a stand below the bookshelf. I might also have to do some bookshelf drilling to make it neat.

Part of the problem with the batteries is that the candles still use power when turned off with the remote (to be able to receive the remote signal) so they die within about 3 months even if you don't use them. You can manually turn them off, but that becomes a royal pain for a quick display (especially if they're inside Sankara stones).

Consider that you may not need "remote" candles. If you can get any candles powered by wire, you can hook up whatever timer or smart plugs you need.

I suppose a switch would do or an outlet on/off switch. I have it set up in the front of my home theater off to the left side on a bookshelf, kind of like a diorama. But I don't necessarily want it on while a movie is playing (music is fine)

I've actually got a theater room full of lit props I can turn on/off with one button plus a star/cloud projector for the ceiling that creates an almost outdoor atmosphere indoors while music plays, although my talking Darth Vader helmet (sitting on my subwoofer, hence Darth Subwoofer) that lights up and yells/taunts you if you walk by can interfere. I made my own subwoofer based spoof sayings, around 12 or so (e.g. "The bass is with you, but you are not a subwoofer yet" or "No Luke (breathing sound pause), I am your subwoofer!" or my favorite, "Your bass is weak old man!")

That sounds really cool!

Yeah, my props display has Wyze brand smart switches, so I can turn them all on or off with my phone. I've so far not had to keep anything on batteries!

So it's been awhile, and much has been added to my collection!

There are definitely some shelves that need some TLC, but some I'm very happy with!

I've started photographing and cataloging every item in the collection. Wish I had done that sooner!

Hey all, thought I'd resurrect this thread to show a shelf-by-shelf of things in their current state.

As always, please feel free to share a critique or any recommendations; it's thanks to your feedback that it's looking so good!

So here's the whole collection in one view, and below I'll go shelf-by-shelf.

PXL_20250101_015926772.jpg

Starting top-left, this shelf is all horror films, or otherwise scary and bloody things. I opted to go highest with these items so that little kids who are visiting might not be too spooked. The Hellraiser cube is on a rotating carousel.

These are all things Star Trek. The screen in the back is a looping video that show various computer screens and makes quiet little beeps.

Next shelf is dedicated to Ghostbusters. The two slime samples are illuminated from beneath.

PXL_20250101_020027197.jpg

Next, this shelf is dedicated to Indiana Jones props. As we know, there are only three films.

PXL_20250101_020040165.jpg

This shelf is a little light, and is dedicated to DC films, shows, and comics. The Kryptonite box in the back is illuminated.

Finally on the left cabinet are miscellaneous items, heavy on the comedy:

The top shelf of the center cabinet is dedicated to fanciful things. The Dark Crystal Shard and Essence Bottle are illuminated.

Next comes Spielberg adventure and some favorite sci-fi. The Logan's Run Follower is illuminated.

PXL_20250101_020519857.MP.jpg

Next shelf is devoted wholly to Severance. The candle has an illuminated moving flame implanted.

PXL_20250101_020512214.jpg

And this shelf is all things Keanu:

The next shelf comprises "adult" substances and items, plus some X-files and Knight Rider. Lift the wallet in the back and you'll see The Simpsons' version of Mulder's ID!

PXL_20250101_020447344.jpg

The bottom shelf of the center cabinet is miscellaneous sci-fi. The Expanse Protomolecule mat is illuminated from underneath.

The cabinet on the right, top shelf, is 60% Back to the Future, plus some 80s fun and a few miscellaneous items:

Next shelf at eye level is dedicated to Star Wars:

PXL_20250101_020613006.jpg

These are all things Marvel, including MCU, Sony, Fox, and comics. Tony's Arc Reactor is illuminated, and the Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy is on a rotating carousel.

PXL_20250101_020626407.jpg

The next shelf is devoted completely to fantasy, with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings items dominating. But it also includes a couple props from novels too! The Dragonslayer amulet is illuminated from underneath, and the Sirius Black poster is an animated photo frame.

PXL_20250101_020638889.jpg

Next one down, this shelf consists of props from animated properties, both movies and shows. The Moana Heart of Te Fiti and the Arcane Hextech crystal are illuminated.

And finally on the bottom shelf, a few miscellaneous items that look better viewed from above:

Reminds me of the display cases Adam Savage had in the cave in the background (and since moved to the Tested office) and I love it! Killer display!

Where did you get your National Treasure brick replica? I have Magnoli’s ocular device on my wishlist and I’d love to have a brick to go with it.

Also, I’m definitely going to be taking some inspiration from at least your LED light strip setup.
