JJ Abrams Super 8 Trailer (Trailer Spoilers?)

Hmm.. Let's see what we have here. Not impressed so far and-

In the movie the kids are filming a home made zombie movie...That kid is playing one of the zombies.

Im glad to see you didn't jump to conclusions.

As noted, this looks so much like ET, Close Encounters, etc. Looks like it should have a Drew Struzan poster. Can't tell much of what the story is yet - which is kind of refreshing for a trailer, actually - but the look alone has me nostalgic and wanting to see it. I wish Crystal Skull had looked half as much like an updated Spielberg film.

J.J. Abrams talks Super 8

“To me, all people need to know is that it’s an adventure about a small town and it’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s scary and there’s a mystery: What is this thing that has escaped? What are the ramifications of its presence? And what is the effect on people? But I know that’s not enough. Look, I feel we need a little bit of a coming-out party because we are up against massive franchises and brands and most people don’t know what ‘Super 8′ means. We’re a complete anomaly in a summer of huge films … and we don’t want to be so silent or coy that people don’t care or don’t hear about it.”

Finally, the article ends with Abrams’ challenge in making the film a hit:

"We have such a challenge on this movie, Abrams said. Yes we’ve got Steven’s name on it and my name on it — for what that’s worth — but we’ve got no famous super-hero, we’ve got no pre-existing franchise or sequel, it’s not starring anyone you’ve heard of before. There’s no book, there’s no toy, there’s no comic book. There’s nothing. I don’t have anything; I don’t even have a board game, that’s how bad it is. But I think we have a very good movie".

Loved that trailer...Felt VERY late 70's early 80's Spielbergish...(which is absolutely priceless in my book)

Cannot wait for this film.

I remember that that's how it used to be. Inception was in the same boat, and look what happened, there. These guys'll do fine.

Nice choice of music in that teaser trailer. Looking forward to this. And the board game. Especially the board game!

Yeah, nice use of the opening riff from "Cocoon." Never been a huge Horner fan, but that melody strikes a really epic note IMO.

The same track was used for "Cocoon: The Return"...

YouTube - COCOON: THE RETURN - THEATRICAL TEASER

It's been a while since I've seen "Cocoon," but I believe the track in question is heard at the very beginning. If not, it's heard at the very end, over shots of the spaceship departing.

Then again, it may be used in both instances. :wacko

Do any of you Horner fans happen to know the track title? I've always liked it, and I'd like to track down an mp3 if possible.

i think the movie looks pretty good. but then again, i liked cloverfield.
i just like all of the viral marketing that abrams does. i was constantly checking all the new consperacies about cloverfield online for about a year and a half before the movie was even widley known.
i checked out the scariestthingieversaw website and thought it was pretty cool too.

The problem with the viral marketing is that you get clues that lead you to other clues, which lead you to other clues, with lead you to other clues, etc...And by the time the film comes out you really haven't figured out anything important about the movie or story. You've basically wasted all that time chasing a wild goose.

The Super 8 viral marketing started with some letters scribbled at the end of the first trailer, which lead you to the "scariestthing" website, which led you to an ice cream company from the 1950's and a fishing enthusiasts blog site and a guy selling a woman's hat on craig's list....And now we have these images at the end of the trailer the are poart of a jugsaw puzzle that doesn't reveal anything important.
Same thing happened with Cloverfield

Aside from the Im excited to see this film.

i don't trust any of this viral garbage anymore - This movie is relying heavily on fan participation, so much so that JJ needed to do a press release after the Bowl commercial didn't generate enough interest in the film. All of this Scooby Doo seek and you will find has never ever ever led up to a good movie - it's just something for the people behind a lukewarm film to do when they are more in love with their precious little idea than anyone else is. Think about it - how much fun would it be to sit around with 12 other guys and come up with junk to hide in a teaser. Abrams is incapable of making anything truly FANTASTIC - i know, Lost fans will chime in - but tell me, after Lost was over - what were you left with? Questions, right? Most people guessed where the survivors were during season 1, even though the Bad Robot team denied it to the bone. This hype is just that - bait for the foolish who want to play along.
