JJ Abrams Super 8 Trailer (Trailer Spoilers?)

I wouldn't be so sure they're not, connected. Both films had very obscure fan clues to search for, JJ Abrahams worked on both, they're both the same plot with aliens...

Sometimes authors just like to work within the same thematic framework. Most of my stuff has the "One man with an idiosyncratic vision fights all odds to make it reality" stamp all over it, for example. So you get stuff like Live From the Moon, about the world's richest man claiming the moon as his own personal property and causing a news team to come with him to witness it, and The Black Diamond, about one man's quest to control all the world's oil and rule over an elevated cross-continental highway of the future.

I worked on both; they have sort of the same plot (perceived crazy guy imposes his will on the actually daft). And I can tell you they're not connected.

Just like JJ said Cloverfield and Super 8 are not connected.

And believe me, I was looking for Dharma logos in this one. :lol

Except it was said well over a year prior to it's release, and if lying would muddle the mystery of the movie even more, I daresay they'd be willing to do it.

That being said, I'm not sure what you meant by fan fiction. If you're saying I read somewhere the satelite was a ship, I'm merely speculating on tie-ins, nothing more...yet

JJ Abrams already stated that the film is no way tied to Cloverfield, and the "Fan clues" to the film is just part of Abrams trademark viral marketing....which he does on almost all of his projects.
Connecting the films simply because the same film makers were involved would be like saying War of the Worlds was tied to ET because Spielberg directed both films.

If there were a connection between both films, it would have been revealed already....Besides, the aliens in the films look different.
