JJ Abrams Super 8 Trailer (Trailer Spoilers?)

Looks like the viral marketing has already started.

At the end of the traile ryou'll see some letters scribbled on the super 8 film strip. The letters spell out scariestthingieversaw.

If you go to scariestthingieversaw.com a 1970's green screen type computer interface pops up.

click on the cursor, press Y and enter.

Keep following the commands until you reach the download section.
Apparently every X amount of hours you'll be able to get a bit further.

I don't care if you are Spielberg or Abrams - no studio on the face of the earth will insure a movie shot on super 8!

That will be done 'in post' to approximate the look of super 8.

but I bet they get it wrong and age the film so it looks old and scratchy like zapruder footage - when, in fact, if it is set in 1975 then the developed film
would be new.

suprising also because I wonder how many 15-25 year olds even know what super 8 is?

I know what Super 8 is. :confused

Hard to judge a film based on a rather boring teaser trailer. I'll wait for a real trailer before I pass judgement.

I still have my original super8 cameras from the 70's and I still shoot Super8.

Believe it or not, there is a lot of people still shooting on the format. Enough so that it keeps Pro8mm in Los Angeles very busy. http://www.pro8mm.com/

When lit correctly and with good cameras and lenses, Super 8 isn't bad at all. Can look as good as 16mm.

Well, our cinematography class taught us to use 16mm and Super 16mm. Not so much about 8mm and Super 8, though they mentioned those formats.

When I saw the trailer, I thought of either it being a remake of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" or the "Cloverfield" sequel I had heard about not too long ago.

I love teaser trailers that don't show much, just a hint to get you interested.

I have to admit though, when I saw this trailer before Iron Man 2 yesterday, at the end of the trailer I imagined Roger, the alien from American Dad climbing out of the wreckage all woozy with a broken martini glass in his hand complaining about spilling his Appletini. :lol

Looked cool to me.
I like teaser trailer and thought this one was fun.
Seems to be widely accepted that this has nothing to do with Cloverfield and the JJ himself has stated as much.
I am always up for a good alien/monster film, and love JJ's stuff so I am looking forward to it next year.:thumbsup

From the teaser,
"In 1979, the US Air Force closed a section of Area 51"
"All materials were to be transported to a secure facility in Ohio."

One of my friends brought this point up, and it's been irking me ever since:

The US Air Force closes a section of one of their most top secret bases...and transports its materials via train? They're the AIR FORCE!
They'd pack up the stuff in a C-130 or something and fly it to Ohio right? Is there even a train line that goes to the Groom Lake facility?
Why have top secret, possibly even alien, material ride the rails through most of the Midwest when an Air Force transport plane could get the stuff there in a fraction of the time?

Well don't believe everything you learn in cinematography class or you're going to be in for a rude awaking on the outside world.

Word.

I've learned more from my time working with an ASC than I did anywhere else... but that's a given.

Hmm.. Let's see what we have here. Not impressed so far and-

Oh...my....god. What the frell is that? A zombie? It's got make up on and blood on it's shirt (All red blood is recolored black for trailers and TV spots). Don't tell me that *THAT* is the alien.

Also, JJ. A story about a Boy and aliens? That is the most unoriginal thing in the universe. No wonder you went with the Star Trek series that had the most males in the cast.

But Spider-Man is sexist!

It should have an equal amount of Spider-Woman.

At least, call it Spider-People!
