havent seen this thread til now, and sometimes i like it that way (cos i cant stand the suspence lol) so i enjoy panning down the pics and watch the progress in double fast time.......
from your first pic, i thought 'hows he gonna shift that much bondo', to the middle pic when i saw you cut it in HALF! i thought 'eeeek' and to your lastest pic i can see the amazing work transform....

I just simply cant believe how incredibly good you are. Your helmets look like they have been made by a machine. The lines are so crisp and clean. Its mind boggling. It makes me believe I can do the same thing. More than likely thats a huge delusion on my part but if I can even come close I'll be happy. Im going to try a build and I am so glad there is someone on earth with your skill and creativeness to help take away alot of the guess work that comes with doing something so intricate. Thanks for being awesome!

Hey man.

Amazing work on the lid so far bro, tis looking really nice. One little thing I was thinking about as I will be making one soon concerning how you've cut your faceplate out. You've cut the jaw line leading back to the ears. By doing it that way how will you tackle the FP opening as it might be tricky to have the FP move out then up?

That lid is looking really sweet man! Now there is a patriot out there that's cut I was wondering how the eyes are to be made with out looking out of place once it opens. I am sure you will do a great job of it of course. Seeing as I will be doing one at some point I will be watching this space for inspiration

Thanks for this thread , i wanted to throw my iron patriot pep almost away already. But this thread shows me that anything can be fixed with bondo . Started to fix my helmet . Will also try your technique for the mowhawk. You sir are awesome

Hey everyone...

Really sorry for the lack of updates... been sick during the holidays and I was not able to immediately go back to work on any projects...

But the good news is, I was able to go back to work on it from last week and just wanted to share the final result...

Sorry picture heavy... But I hope y'all like it

At first I got back working on the face plate...

I chopped off the 2 sides to make it thinner

Then the pieces I removed from the face plate I put back to the main helm...

This will be filled with bondo, cut and sanded...

I put metal support on the center of the face plate... it will be sandwiched between fiberglass layers... this will be implemented to all the other castings...:thumbsup

After a quick primer spray...

And finally... the completed 3-pieces Iron Patriot Helmet... :thumbsup

Since I dont really know how the helmet was separated in the movies (due to lack of references), I took the liberty to make my own design...

My design may not be movie accurate but, as a mechanical engineer, this is how I imagine it to work in real life... of course CGI may have a totally different concept far beyond reality...

THE BACK PIECE

Fully separable 3-pieces but merged seamlessly...:thumbsup

Mesh teeth details...

Lips well sealed... (No secrets will come out... LOL:lol)

Eye opening on the side are unnoticeable...

Virtually invisible gap between the mohawk and faceplate....

Easy face plate opening and closing...

Motorization possible...:thumbsup

The lines are the sharpest and most perfectly placed I've ever seen thanks to your measuring technique - the two grooves along the edge are sharpened and rounded flawlessly. I've spent months lurking forums, trying to find out how this kind of exact detail is achieved, and finally I've found what I was looking for.

I just wish we could have seen how you filed it. If I ever attempted to use that file the lines would look knobbly and off-center. I assume you used a ruler of some kind, or perhaps another one of those foam outlines, in order to make the lines so straight?

Once again, well done sir. Your technique is outstanding; this is the best Iron Man helmet I have ever seen and probably ever will.

How do you get your pencil lines so straight on the curves? Do you have some kind of guide? Or do you just freehand it?
