Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) - with BLINK/FADE LED EYES

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- MAGNETS INSTALLED!

K & J Magnetics Inc.

I think a lot of people on here recommmend K & J. They literally have any size/strength magnet you need.

Actually, are Neodymium magnets the same as Rare-Earth magnets? I am getting the feeling that they are not. The neodymium's are plenty strong none the less

jnsbanman is right... actually neodymium is a type of rare-earth magnet, same as samarium-cobalt magnet... I previously worked in a japanese company manufacturing VCM (voice coil motor) that is used in Hard drives...:)

But I wont recommend anyone to use VCM magnets because its super strong... you'll really have a hard time detaching it from a flat metal surface, let alone 2 VCM's attached to each other... lets just say its quite dangerous... :confused

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- MAGNETS INSTALLED!

After we finished the teeth and the back-piece magnets installation, we proceeded to install the LED eyes...

(sorry picture heavy, but hope everyone appreciates)

We used 2 high intensity LED's from a local electronic store...
LEDEYES1.gif

Put an enclosure made of aclrylic sheets...
LEDEYES2.gif

Connect the LED's to the power supply (3 watch batteries equivalent to 4.5V)... push button switch included

Slide-in the LED enclosure to the faceplate's eye socket... to be permanently fix using super glue (later)...

Let there be LIGHT!:)

We've followed the shape of the eyes in the IM movie (i hope:confused)

Changed the brightness (to low) setting of the mobile phone cam...

The shape of the LED eyes allow the wearer to see thru the remaining uncovered space of the eye socket...
Photo-1035.jpg

Can you see the ironman poster?:love
Photo-1036.jpg

Even with the lights ON, you can see clearly thru the slit... you dont need to worry about the light blinding your eyes :confused as the LED is completely sealed...:):thumbsup
Photo-1037.jpg

Photo-1042.jpg

The slit, where you see thru, is hardly noticeable... specially when black eye shadows were put around the eye socket...
Photo-1043.jpg

The black eye shadow will be painted on but since we are still not in the painting stage, I tried to simulate it using black vinyl tape...
Photo-1045.jpg

You wont notice the slit since its also dark inside the helm...
Photo-1047.jpg

I attached the power supply using double-sided foam tape...
Photo-1049.jpg

Even with the lights ON, still you wont notice the slit...
Photo-1051.jpg

Photo-1054.jpg

Im not sure if you can see it on the photo (below)... but I managed to put a subtle blue lining around the eyes to mimic the effects on the movie...

Hope this adds up some percent on our 99% target accuracy...:confused

The LED eyes assembly has the following qualities:
1) Compact design (no messy wire running along the helmet)
2) Very light weight (approximately 10 grams)
3) Energy efficient (uses watch batteries, 4.5V)
4) Provides just the right light intensity (not blinding)
5) 99% movie accurate
6) Allows the wearer to see thru the open space (slit) of the eye socket
7) Absolutely NO glare (no blinding light inside)
8) Ideal for motorized face plate
9) Easy to install

Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

Thanks for viewing and for your time...

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- LED EYES INSTALLED!

I feel like in a few weeks you are gonna post

"Update guys, we made our suit fly and shoot actual rockets as well"

:cheers

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- LED EYES INSTALLED!

Very nice... but how would you modify it to work with a motorized face plate. aka off when up and on when down?

OMG that is the simplest led setup ever!

thanks GJ...:):thumbsup

thanks man... thats easy, you may cut the red or the black wire from the power supply side... add a switch (soft-touch switch, magnetic switch, any switch you prefer) and connect it to the power supply terminal and the wire you have chosen to cut...

Mount the additional switch on the face plate where in it can be triggered by part of the helmet... the lights will turn on as soon as additional switch on the face plate touches the helmet and will go OFF as soon as the face plate lift...

Hope I deliver the idea well...:)

cheers!

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- LED EYES INSTALLED!

You've done it again mate, I'm impressed! this set up looks spot on and the way you've gone about it is flawless. I keep following this build with great interest. :thumbsup

Your drive to get this as accurate as possible is leaving everyone stunned.

Again, impressive!

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- LED EYES INSTALLED!

Just had to add to this thread, I'm new to the forum and came across this thread last night. I was still unsure on what I was going to take on for my first build, before going deep into research I wanted to do an Ironman build, but was leaving my options open.

This thread tipped me over the edge and after seeing your work I was like 'man, I've got to do an Ironman build'.

Great work, have learnt so much from this thread and can't wait to see the finished product!

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- LED EYES INSTALLED!

wow really clean job on the led eyes.. i love how simple and great looking it is, would you be willing to sell a eye kit?

Today I took a photo of my brother wearing the helm with LED eyes ON...

My brother's nose is almost touching the LED eyes power supply so I relocate it on the forehead side...

Currently working on the hinge setup... hope we do good...:confused

cheers!

Ahh... I get it... So a reed switch on the faceplate with a small magnet mounted on the jaw for example. Very nice!!! I will be implementing this on my helmet.

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- UPDATES ON LED EYES!

Your install is simple and clean:love... the way it should be and the way mine wont be! :behave

I plan to install mine tonight, and like how you made the eye covers, but the lost visibility bothers me a little. I'll see how mine goes tonight I might have to follow your footsteps on some parts!

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- RED LED EYES FOR WARMACHINE

Someone requested for RED LED eyes for warmachine application...

So today we tried to make one...

REDLEDEYES-1.gif

We dont have a warmachine helm as of the moment so we just installed it to our IM helm...

I think the result is quite good...:):thumbsup

I cannot lie, that looks sick! I really like how clean it is and the fact that it replicates what you see on the movie. Awesome job!
I coudn't replicate what you did because one set of my leds were broke but I made do with one set. Not as screen accurate as yours but I'll still rock it!
