MAIN INTRO

So I wanted to build a new suit and this time I'm gonna be taking my sweet time with it. Its gonna be buit using mostly styrene and Foamex so It'll be rigid but I am gonna be adding some mechanical elements to allow for comfortable movement and to relieve stress points on the suit.

So far i've been working on the chest design. I've decided to do a buttload of research and I think I'm going to be following some of the elements from Adi Granov's concept works and cover art and some other bits of concept work! I guess the big inspirations are these pictures.

And the chest piece I'f drawn up so far looks like this. The rib thrusters are gonna be a bit altered but its pretty accurate to what I want. Will be doing the shoulders and the like soon so let me know what you think so far and what I should or could do!

Heck yeah! A lot of Granov's work looks better to me than the actual movie stuff.

This literally has been my reaction whenever someone asks why I don't build the movie armours!! I've always just felt that Granov's designs have such finesse to them theres no elaborate unnecessary panels like on the 42's chest anything thats there is there on purpose! And damn has he get an eye for detail! like his drawings for Ironman (the first movie) were just stunning! Even how he designed a mock up suit that was quite heavy as technology in our world wasnt quite at the point where a suit would be a slimlined as the MKIII was. and even then he took his design and slimlined it into easily my favourite film Ironman suit! All in all the mans a damn wizard!

So yeah love his work =P

Just redoing the chest now without the rib thrusters. think I'm going to do them on an internal frame similar to the MKVII so as to retain the sleek element to the Extremis suit.

Awesome. I know they aren't 'canon' to the movies (or even to the comics), but there are a few conceptual suits out there that I've wanted to see made. Right up on the top of my list is Phil Saunders' Sneaky suit rendering. I'd build that just to display in office :lol

Good call on the thruster idea. I always thought the Extremis designs would be a bit challenging because of how organic (if that's the word I'm looking for) and streamline the shapes are. There are a lot of mk 3s,4s,6s,7s, etc. out there. This is refreshing. and of course I'm subscribed, keep it up!

I thought they did build Sneaky. wasn't it the MK 15 or at least a version based of Phil's

Yeah getting the balance between organic from the comics and mechanical from the movies is gonna be mad tricky. Think the secret is to focus on very rounded legs, arms and abs then have the mechanical elements in the joints and in some areas of obvious use such as hip pods that aren't just circles or on the back of the thigh where the cod meets to allow for flexible movement.
Thats sort of why I decided to template rough designs on "paper" before taking it to prototyping. so all the areas of concern will be drawn then tested then redrawn if need be

OK new Chest piece done, removed the thrusters, changed the shoulders a bit and tweeked the plating here and there, no to draw the under frame which will hold the unibeam, harness, and thrusters.

Yeah, they tried, but it just doesn't look right to me. The only thing is, Phil's looks like it was made for a 6 foot 3 person with a 32" waist :)

Looking forward to this. I had a blast even doing the Rescue Suit, because the model I used had a lot of parts based on the Extremis.

I remember! that came out really well! And thats every iron man's problem =P and I 'm 5 "11 with a 32inch waist so I know those height feels. Thats why I decided to start building freehand really otherwise it just never came out how I wanted.

Yeah I know I actually said it earlier.

My wallet is actually the scene of the MKIII flying with F22's that inspired the scene!

And best of all the movies on right now on film4 delighted =D

This looks good. I love Granov's work. You got the 'Art of IM3' book?

Of course! Have it up next to my two Iron Man-uals, one for the comics and one from the movies! =D

Uh, you guys do know that Adi Granov designed the film suit with Phil Saunders, right?

Yup, but I liken it to a car rendered by Chip Foose versus the car then built by Chip Foose. In many cases, there are actually a lot of significant differences (even in general proportions) between the concept drawings and the final physical (and even CGI) suits.

I gotcha, no worries. Just didn't think that should be swept under the rug in the process of praising his other designs. :)

Of course :) I think too often we brush over facts like that, assuming most people already know (which, why would they, they aren't all IM freaks like we are :lol)

Back on topic, Ciano I look forward to seeing what you do with the boots. I like the double-prong toe design that's out there, but it was challenging for me to keep the boots not looking WAAAAYYY too long if they were sized to fit a man's shoe inside. Of course, I kind of sucked at boots when I built my Extremis boots, so that might have been the problem :lol

I love the two prong toe design too! think how I'm gonna solve the length is by increasing the boot's sole height so that there is more of a grip like design similar to that of the movie suits as the normal design is very boring =P

Ok silenced a bit of chatter in my head by putting it on "paper"! Also started work on the undersuit frame. Not much but lots of ideas! odds are I'll cut half of them from the finished suit but its good to have them at all then not!

Underframe finished!

Obviously this is very rough and will be changed when I come to prototyping but for now I like it as a stand in!

Next piece is abs. Then I'll look at the legs and arms and finally head, and after all that's done I'll do the sides and back!

Lots to do really but Its coming along well

Oh man this is gonna b sweet. I love the idea of a movie concepted extremis armor so I'll be checking this thread out. When I think extremis and movie suits the mark 3 comes to mind, mainly the abs and shins. They were pretty smooth and solid which for me is extremis cause that was his most fluid suit at the time. I'm interested to see ur shoulder ideas cause movie suits were technical as where extremis were one solid piece that was more of a cover piece. And then there's ur helmet, can't imagine wat ur gonna for that!

So good luck with all that!

P.s. Ur god killer suit was awesome
p.s.s y u delete ur deviant art page?

Also, I was just watching pacific rim and I was looking at their suits they wear in the jagars and the abs piece looks pretty iron man man like. Maybe even a few other parts too
