Iron man 2 - Spoilers!

Overall, I liked the movie. Not as good as the first one, but still a good superhero flick. I think Don Cheadle did a great job, he seemed to be more like a competent Air Force officer than Terrance Howard. Scarlett wasn't bad, I think this is the first time I actually found her attractive. Loved the War Machine and drone designs (especially the Marine tiger striped one)

There, I've got it! My theory of storytelling: simple plot, complicated characters.

I like that too. But character driven movies are a no no nowaday, especially in these films. They would rather give you a simple plot topped with simple characters and over the top cgi to make up for the previous two.

There are plenty of people here who seem to have not liked the film or at least felt a little short changed with what they saw. I won't say that I see half baked ideas onscreen and know immediately they come from development by committee.

Speaking of which - they will NEVER do the alcoholic story line. They want families to come see these movies. Never in a million years will they risk one child not being able to buy an Iron Man action figure. "But, mommy - Iron Man dwinks"

I think they just did the alcoholic storyline (more or less) in the sequel? Stark is dying, gives up his company, Rhodes steps in as Warmachine and stops Stark. Doing the full version of the alcoholic storyline would be a little redundant at this point.

I saw the movie this afternoon and could not have been more disappointed. The special effects were good, it was shot well, but the plot, the dialogue, and the entire tone of the film was bad. This movie was slightly better than Transformers 2, but I thought they let us down in a big way. C- at best, and probably a D+ upon further reflection. It will make TONS of money at the box office, but then again, so did Attack of the Clones.....

:thumbsdown

See, quotes like this irk me... Sorry to single you out, Indy, but this is the type of comment that just makes me wanna punch a baby... It's a movie. There is more to the character than a suit, so those saying "lack of suit time" - I just don't get it. I mean, do you want to really see 120mins. of nothing but a CGI suit flying through the sky and watching flaps move??

The movie was a success... What is it that people can't accept that while it is a comic movie, there is a sense of "this could happen" in it? They studio isn't going to waste an entire movie in this franchise on Tonys' alcoholism and the strain on his and Rhodeys' friendship - they acknowledged it - pulled it off, and it was done.

They handled, like, 15 books in 4 minutes... It's like the GED of book-to-films, you got just about everything over a long span in a few minutes - What more do you need??

Too long of a movie?? Not even close. I loved Transformers, but THAT was a long ass movie. Titanic was beyond long.

Oh it was another "father-son-plot" - It's a comic book movie... Let's face it, not a whole lot of plot lines that haven't been covered 100 million times already.

Why has it come to where we can't go to a movie and just WATCH it... When you were 7 did you come out of a movie going "While the cinematic presentation was shot quite well the plot, back stories and sub-plot felt quite rushed."

No!

You woulda come out and said holy eff that was awesome!

I think a lot of us on here should lose the comic-nerc-gotta-be-accurate'ness and just learn to watch a flick and go back to being that 7yr old for a couple of hours...

Just me...

Also...I guess they cut the "You complete me!" scene where he jumps out the plane after Pepper kisses the helmet.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that was cut out when I saw the film yesterday.

Just saw it. I thought it was ok, but man, that movie had a whole lotta dumb in it.

We're gonna fight a whole army of 'roger roger' robots and then Ivanko is gonna show up in some super suit that he created in secret and have his ass handed to him inside of two minutes. Ivanko - I'm gonna warn you that you are about to die and btw, all my robots are gonna start blinking RED and make ominous beeping sounds before they self-destruct! Then Pepper, who happens to be standing next to one is gonna stand there and stare at the blinking red light like that woman in The Andromeda Strain. And THEN Tony knows where she is standing so that he can fly over and rescue her!

People can wiggle their fingers over the keyboard and do miraculous things. Tony's long-dead father encoded how to make a new element into his diorama because he knew his son would one day need it? Tony can figure this out by waving his hands in the air and clapping? How did Rhoady get the suit off? Robotic arms with a sense of humor? Missles that fart!?

I am starting to think Samuel J. can ruin any movie now. I kept waiting for him to mention something bout bringing balance in the force. His attire was pretty dumb as well with Scarlet's (I don't even know who her character is supposed to be) coming in a close second. I was weirded out by Micky Roark's fingernails too.

I don't see what the big deal was at the very end. It was met with a deafening silence in the room.

I like Iron Man because it could be real. The technology and all. Something I can grasp. I think introducing any fantastical characters/aliens will make it mucho-cheesy.

The bit with the element was that that his father came up with the idea for the element to make the Arc Reactor better/possible at that time. The problem was, he lacked the ability/technology to actually create it. Even super computer Jarvis said that the element could not be made. I'd question why his father 'encoded' it in the Stark Expo for Tony to figure out later, though. I don't read the comics, so I don't know if his father had some fatal disease and he knew he wasn't going to be able to tell him about the element directly or what. If you wanna talk about things being contrived - you can probably us the bit about his creating the new element in his garage and having access to everything necessary - including a jackhammer - in his malibu beach pad. The element, though, was imagined by his father to save the son 25 years prior to the fact - it was created as a method to build the arc reactor with a safer/better element than paladium.

I don't see people's problem with SLJ in this either. Maybe they're sick of seeing him everywhere - but he was fine in this movie. He didn't have enough screen time to ruin anything. He was on film, what? 5-7 minutes?

The only real issue I had was the final fight lasting 60 seconds. I figured it'd last much longer. Gotta say, i'm stunned all the naysers have seemingly omitted the bit where Ivanko gets rammed by a Rolls 3 times, gets beaten by Iron Man, and then later that day (or so it seemed) he's sitting in a holding cell in his underwear with not a single scratch on him. He sure didn't seem to be wearing 'armor' to the point of taking that beating without a scratch.

The Rolls mashing him and him seeming to be fine afterwards made me wonder if the framework of the whip costume was what was supposed to have protected him from getting crushed. Didn't seem like there was enough there to protect him if that's what they wanted us to think.

I'd like to point out that a lot of the quibbles that people are having with the film are things culled directly from the source material; particularly the Tony-Howard relationship. Tony never felt that he was good enough in his father's eyes. His father was an alcoholic ******* and his mother, Maria, was the only one who was really kind to Tony. Losing both of his parents in a car crash, Tony lost not only his mother who was his primary support, but any opportunity to hear his father say he was proud of Tony's accomplishments. Tony pushed himself hard to be the best and brightest and to bring his father's company to the highest levels of success to try to prove himself, an endeavor ultimately doomed to failure (how DO you prove yourself to a ghost, after all?) which, combined with his genetic predisposition, sent him into a downward spiral of alcoholism and self-destruction.

This is how I saw it as well. We got to see drunk, self destructive Tony. They wrapped it all up in what, an hour? So, check that one off of the list.

I enjoyed the movie. There isn't much more to say. I wonder about the future of the Iron Man franchise with the end of this movie. Will Downey be back in the Avengers?

Those are exactly my thoughts! :thumbsup

I really like Rourke as Vanko and the Mark V suitcase armor and of course I will still continue to build Iron Man props :D

Shandlings face was so shiny and puffy he could have been schilling botox.

I didn't even recognize him at first.

How did Rhoady get the suit off?

Stark's assembly/disassembly robots are like an automated pit-crew - I'm sure that Air Force techs could get the suit on and off, just not nearly as fast.

I don't see people's problem with SLJ in this either. Maybe they're sick of seeing him everywhere - but he was fine in this movie. He didn't have enough screen time to ruin anything. He was on film, what? 5-7 minutes?

My only problem was the diner scene. I was waiting for Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer to interrupt their conversation. :)

I didn't like it. I thought it was boring and shallow. Vanko was pointless. He spent half the movie getting ready and gets his ass handed to him in 30 seconds. I had no interest in Vanko or Hammer as the villians.

AMEN on both counts! Just go to the movies and have a good time!

SPOILERS (to help with my argument)

Might I also add that the reason WHY Stark was getting drunk off his behind was because he KNEW his days were getting numbered with the toxicity levels? Did any of you moaning about this drunked-out stuff see the part when Tony asked Widow what she would do if she knew this was the last birthday he'd ever have?

There was a reason he was being self-destructive and it was his secret he didn't tell anyone that HE WAS DYING. What did he have to lose? Yeah if you're dying and you've exhausted all options and just knew the end was near, you would understand his actions. On the outside the people at the party didn't see that, but as us, the audience, knew his secret that he wasn't going to be around much longer. He sobered up pretty quick when he figured out how to cure his illness and was pretty sharp the rest of the way through the flick.

My gosh...
