Iron man 2 - Spoilers!

(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

I think when all is said and done, we will find that Faverau and Downey wanted to do the Demon In A Bottle story, but Marvel had them put so much Avengers crap in there, that they didn't get the story they wanted.

This movie was MARGINAL at best, and I am amazed at the positive reviews here. This could have been a homerun, but the action was typical, the plot was thin, and the acting was FLAT. I LOVE Don Cheadle, and he had no screen presence.

And in the end, they are fighting drones. What was this, Attack of the Clones? This movie was bad. Not Transformers 2 bad, but bad none the less. I can't believe some of you loved it! Why don't you all agree with me without question??!!:lol

PS: I wasn't trying to start a flame war, I just really feel this movie was a let down and I think after some time goes by, we will see that Robert Downey Jr and Jon Faverau did NOT get to tell the story they wanted to tell. It seems obvious to me.

Just saw it. I thought it was ok, but man, that movie had a whole lotta dumb in it.

Loved it. :thumbsup
I have always loved war machine, and loved seeing him in action. :thumbsup
Loved the drones and the branch-specific nature of each.
Black Widow was awesome.
Finding a new twist to the same alcoholic idea of the Demon in the bottle storyline from the comics worked well.
It was not possible to repeat my best "wow" moments from the first film because they were all related to seeing a realistic Iron Man on the screen (each scene that introduced new armor in the first film did that for me - now any new armor is just tweaking what I have already seen), and those moments are only really strong the first time. But I enjoyed it. I liked that if felt like a further telling of the same story, not just repeating it.
Plan too see it again next weekend.:rolleyes

Glad too see it is doing well - better then the first even.
So far Worldwide: $327,600,000

Just back from watching it (though I haven't watched the first film). After seeing it, now I can see a bunch of RPFers running to the kids toy isle for the toy "Iron Man 2" helmet (since it was in the film and used as a part of a joke) to go along with the toy Arc Reactor they plan on modifying.

this will be the film that at comic-con 2011 Fav and Downey will be apologizing for - saying they learned a lot about what to do and what not to do - then they'll release IM3 and it'll be just as bad. but that's okay - Downey and Favs got their paycheck.

The question I get asked the most is "How do you go to the bathroom in the suit?"....like that.

Saw it today and walked out with mixed feelings... couldn't really put my finger on it specifically, but just walked out feeling less wowed than the first time. Two things that stood out like a sore thumb were Scarlett J (could have easily taken her completely out of the film and lost absolutely nothing... her fight scene was so ridiculously gratuitous I was just shaking my head) and Tony's drunken birthday party. I thought the humor was spot on, the action was great and the original characters remained strong... but still left someone let down.

For those who thought the end battle was too short, I actually thought it was nice not to see 10 minutes of pounding Whiplash and thought the quick finish was somewhat unique and different.

Heh. I'm beginning to come around to that opinion myself. My opinions of a film rarely gel instantly, I usually tend to digest them for a week or so. This had a lot of weaknesses, there's no question. I felt that way during the screening. I *wanted* to like it! I *really* wanted to like it! And the dialogue and little character moments really are as strong as the first time around; somehow none of it hangs together well though. As you say, they're fighting drones. I thought Cheadle was decent enough myself, but short-changed by some very thin scripting - I couldn't work out whether we were supposed to be considering him to have crossed a line of unforgiveability or not, and at what point; or whether we were supposed to be impressed (or surprised?) by Tony's forgiveness; or not; or what.

I loved the ending with Gary's character, that was great. Hell, there were a ton of moments that harked back to the excellence of the first film. It was clearly the same team on the job.

So why don't I love it the way I was eager to? Instead, I'm still sperging over How to Train Your Dragon. That movie hits every mark and says every line perfectly.

Unfortunately the first one was so damn good that there was no real way the sequel wasn't going to be a letdown (though I agree that it could have been much better regardless). It's rare to have an Empire Strikes Back. Downey and Rourke are so good that their presence allowed me to overlook some weaknesses in the script. Rourke is just compelling to me, Downey too. They just have so much charisma to spare. I just enjoy seeing them onscreen. I really like Favreau as an actor too, ever since he was Monica's boyfriend in Friends.

I kinda agree with the not wanting to see 10 minutes of it. I like when creativity wins the day not 30 minutes of arse whooping. But they coulda made it a smiiiidge longer lol

Scartlets character IS important to Shield. Black Widow though they didnt really tell anyone who it was ... so it is kinda fanservice but...IS important. Guess that will come in later. Though guess they just are gonna skip the whole starting as against Iron Man and the whole Hawkeye thing.

I was kinda sad to not see ONE glimse of the freaking Shield base. I got uber excited when I figured out who Scartlet was (I try not to read a bunch of online sites before going to new movies) thinking that for SURE I would get at least a little shield helicarrier glimpse. oh wells.

I enjoyed it overall. We lost the ability to see it in IMAX because the theatre flooded during the Nashville floods so we found a place to see it digitally presented at least. It was a fun ride even if some of it was forced and watered down.

I thought it was good but not great. I thought the drones chasing/flying Iron Man was too long and too dark at times. All I saw were flases of light...a movie like this doesn't nead to cheat. What blew me away about the first one was they showed Iron Man in bright daylight!

I loved Sam Rockwell though!

I'll say this. I'd much rather have seen The Mandarin as opposed to another armored suit battle. I mean, they alluded to it in the first movie.

I think the probem with adapting a comic franchise to a movie is there is 50 years of stories and they have to pick and choose and boil it down to two hours. So many fans have high expectations and there are lots of could have beens and they should have scenarios to play out. I think they are saving The Mandarin as a villan for the avengers movies

Also....Is it just me....or would regualar people (because we're special? :lol ) be sort of confused to see Sam Jackson in Iron Man?

And realy....There was enough people in this movie it should of been called Avengers : The Prequel. :lol :p ;)

Sam was Iron Man at some point? I missed that.

I will admit one thing this movie had going for it - Scarlett was HOT and I mean H-O-T!

I meant in the movie. :p Because wasn't his only scene in the first movie the one after the credits?

I had people laughing because when Sam Jackson came on screen, I said a bit loud, Hey, I thought Hasslehoff Was Nick Fury. People obviously knew what I meant. I would have rather seen the Hoff too, as I am not a big fan of Jackson.

"I'm tired of these M'Fin Robot's in this M'Fin Movie.

Overall I enjoyed it. It was a sequel which was telling a part of a story that led to a bigger story, so I wasn't expecting perfection.

This film was clearly aimed the the fans, bits and pieces from various IM comic books tossed in to at least cover the story matter.

In the end we have to remember that they probably couldn't get away with telling a full blown story about Tony being a drunk and a womanizer, especially with it targeting the kid market. So they touch on it for a brief moment and move on.

I need to go and watch it again...

But my feeling is that there was a lot of good stuff in the film, and that stuff was great and then there were other parts that were just meh. Some stuff felt rushed while other parts seemed to go on too long. It needed a little more balance.

In the end, for me, it still delivered. It was a fun film and not a film that I would consider to be bad. Bad might include Indy 4, Spiderman 3 or Wolverine Origins. This wasn't on that level, it didn't manage to ruin a franchise (cough Batman and Robin), so all things considered, I think they did alright for themselves.

Agreed on many accounts Zen :) Wolverine Origins made me die inside :( Indy 4 wasnt thaaaat bad to me. I think its main problem was there was too much to live up to and too long since the last one. I find it much more watchable than The Phantom Menace lol

I'm enjoying the heck out of the comic movies regardless. There are so many untapped stories out there that would make great movies.
