Into Darkness Dreadnaught (Spoiler Alert?)

About the only way I'll feel better about this ship is if it isn't actually Starfleet, and instead some sort of Klingon abomination they put together after pulling the archives out of Nero's ship while he was in captivity. The hard lines in the engineering hull look way more Klingon than Starfleet.

I think all the weird panels and lines make it too busy, if it was cleaned up a bit it might not be that bad. I do like the nacelles and the dish/collector area.
The basic shape of this thing looks like a bird of prey with a saucer section and nacelles glued on it.

Looks like the TNG Enterprise and a Star Destroyer had a child and the mother drank during the pregnancy.

You know, you might be on to something. If the ship from the last movie had data on the Enterprise D they could have used this and the romulan tech to create this thing.

Have...have you seen it, though? :p

Um, inevitable I'm afraid. It's like the designers are reacting against the negative reception of the JJ-Prise by upping the ante. "You thought THAT was bad? You'll LOVE it after you see how bad things CAN get, muahahaha!" - okay, probably not, but you do have to wonder what they *were* thinking. It's an aggressive departure from established ST design, to say the least.

Anyway, just my 2c, and don't take it to heart - you definitely won't be the only person who loves the ship. I won't bash any further. You could maybe alter the title of the thread to request people refrain, if you like?

Maybe starfleet in this universe becomes more militaristic like you see in some of the alternate universes in Enterprise and TOS. I sure wouldn't want that thing hovering over me.

:lol

you sir are all kinds of awesome with a description like that!!!!!!

BTW technically is it really a spoiler, after all, its seen in the latest trailer.

Looks like it has the big canon from the future Enterprise D from all good things
on the underside of the saucer.

Except if you look at this one, it isn't even straight. It is ****** off to one side, not
centered in the saucer. Wonder if it rotates side to side. It is probably just poorly designed
CGI model. Yeah, that's it.

Looks really goofy but so does everything else in JJ Trek.

Looks like a Starfleet version of War Machine. Did they commission Justin Hammer to build it? The collector dish area looks just like War Machine's chest Which is to say... Retarded. Hopefully they didn't replace photon torpedoes with Ex-Wife missiles.

The open center I'm thinking is mid saucer separation sequence. Those big parts forming a V are like docking clamps or something. Pure speculation of course being that I had no idea what that thing was in the preview until about 5 minutes ago.

I thought we were getting another time-travel story and this was a future Enterprise.

The saucer on this is actually a ring (note the star field in the center area of the saucer), so what you're seeing is a structuring rising from the deflector dish, up through the neck to the underside of the bridge section.

I really dig it, at least what I see of it. An upper perspective and some plan views would be nice at some point. The few number of windows visible definitely suggest that it's more of a dedicated military vessel, and the suggested armament on the secondary hull backs that up, which definitely gives it that imposing bad guy feel to it. I'm eager to see how it shows up in the film, especially given the supposed Federation origin of the vessel (I'm not ruling out devious villain plots here).

I'm really curious about those four doors on the underside of the saucer. The Enterprise in TMP had some retractable panels on the underside of the saucer in similar locations (Spock's space walk scene), but given the scale difference from this to the JJ Enterprise, and the variable scale issues between JJ's stuff and the pre-existing Trek ships, I'm wondering if those might end up being fighter bays or something. Perhaps, given the villainous appearance of the Vengeance, the little "Klingon fighter" we see in the trailer came from one of those hatches?

I'm enjoying the new crazy approach to design in the JJ Trek films almost as much as I'm enjoying the fan horror it generates. I have two friends, major Trek fans, who've seen the new film and loved it. But I look forward to the next five years of outraged message board posts about it...

i was kind of confused looking at it, but i just think we are looking at a oblong saucer (just like on the D) with holes on the side so the perspective looks off. the center section looks off center but thats cause we are looking at it at a angle.

To me, it looks like something that was designed for a video game. Look at the nacelle supports - no smooth curves. It's hard lines, like a low-rez polygon model.

was thinking the same thing, like someone built this in minecraft.

It may just be me but I see some reference / influence from the drop ship from alien’s and bird of pray in there.

I just figured this ship was built as a result of the pounding they took from the Romulan ship in the first movie.

Not sure what the villain's motives are though. So far he just seems like a future version of the Joker

There is that to be said for it, yes. :lol
