Into Darkness Dreadnaught (Spoiler Alert?)

Which will likely pale in comparison to the outrage with the next three Star Wars movies.

When I heard JJ was going to do Star Wars as well I told my wife that its all a plan to make all the people angry at George Lucas for the prequels to say "Can we get George back, please."

I like it not because it is beautiful to behold or anything, but because this is exactly what militarized federation ship would look like. The dark blocky design reminds me a lot of a stealth bomber, and it really helps to convey that idea that the ship is designed to scare the hell out of you, not make you want to paint a picture.

I'm finding myself disliking it less than before. I wish we'd gotten some better views of it in the film, but if I see the Hot Wheels toy, I might consider picking it up.

I expect I'd still pass on the Klingon ship though.

I agree with this. I think the ship just looks mean, and after seeing the film that's exactly what it was supposed to look like.

I hate to go against the grain here but I actually really like USS Vengeance :)
I haven't seen the film yet but from the images I've seen online it looks hard as nails :devil

I'm with you, Leigh. I thought the Vengeance was a great design for what is basically a bad ass battleship.....in the movie, you never really see it ultra clearly.....like, say...the SSD in Empire......it's always much more of a giant, dark threatening presence......very well executed!

I liked the design as well, not everything about the Vengeance, but overall, it looked menacing enough.
I give them props for trying something different. Heck, the JJprise is starting to grow on me too!

*SPOILER ALERT!!!*

Just saw the movie the other night, and I loved the Vengeance! Dedicated warship, built in secret, advanced drive and weaponry designed by Khan under the direction of a corrupt Starfleet admiral. The 'Dark Side' of the Federation, if you will. I think it was perfect.

I watched the film, i just couldn't like it i'm afraid. It just seemed like a cheap rip off of so many other classic Trek moments. Reboots i can deal with to a certain extent but why cant these guys come up with anything original? A ship under the sea, then falling into the atmosphere, what is that all about and i will NEVER get used to that interpretation of the Engineering section, a really poor film in just about all respects i think.

i thought it was pretty badass in a 'skunk works' kind of fashion. certainly not easy on the eyes, but you can imagine it eating pretty much anything short of a borg cube for breakfast... :devil

One of the best things i like about the jj reboot is the change from beam phasers to pulsed phasers. seems less laser-pointy and more impactful, in my opinion.

i don't think i can get behind the whole 'donut saucer' thing, though.

Are we talking about the outside engineering section or the industrialised engineering spaces? I actually prefer the new look with all the pipes and more rugged aesthetic, when I see the TNG engine room now I think it looks quaint but definitely a TV set in oddly a way the TOS & TMP ones didnt. Up until recently my favourite engineering had been the cavernous Ent-E set but now the current movie has pimped it, most likely because it looks like a real world bit of kit and actually turns out it is... Just me though and your more than entitled to like or dislike what you like (or dont like as the case may be :))

The Enterprise underwater I didnt really think about as much as the ship falling towards Earth, while a 'cool' sequence it didnt make sense that Sulu said "without shield we will burn up" but by the time power comes back up so they could use the thrusters (eh...?) they were already at cloud height.

That said loved the movie and likedthe Vengence turned out to be bad ass even if we didnt get a good look at it and then it got trashed, Im just hoping for Trek 3 they put the Enterprise against something she can match and have an interesting battle with like a Klingon Battlecruiser and if they insist on having her fight daft odds it be 3 Klingon ships (or something) Vs Enterprise and none of this 'uber ship' mentality.
