Prepare for the poo storm following them announcing that it will not play old games nor will it work without an internet connection. Apparently now they're just calling it the Xbox and not 720. Someone seriously needs to go back to making cartridge game systems.

Seems a little convenient that the name and logo would be leaked the same day that they announced the date of the console announcement. Especially that it was put up on Reddit instead of being leaked to major gaming news companies like IGN.

Yeah. I'm betting at least part of it is BS. I'm still worried that MS didn't bother to squash the bad rumors though.

Plus you have the MS employee who was fired for being online and essentially defending the always on internet connection. They fired him, sure, and he acted like a complete ass and deserved it, but they never really distanced themselves from what he said.

They get money from the game companies for each game sold as part of the licensing deal to allow the games to be used on the systems. The game companies and console companies hate the used game market because they lose cash as they're not making anything off it.

Do auto companies make money on used cars sold? Do studios make money for movie rentals? Why is it so important to double or triple dip to squeeze every possible cent out of a product. Aren't they making enough from the store prices? $60+ for a game isn't exactly easy to swallow these days.

I rarely buy games... new or used. I borrow my neighbors games. Should MS come knocking on his or my door to get their cut?

I'm all in for a new system as long as they don't drastically change the controller and don't pull a bunch of this online monitoring nonsense. I just want to play a damned game... not be spied on and robbed.

The thing is is that MS hasn't responded to any rumours period. Good or bad. Kudos for them keeping tight lipped on everything but it can also harm them as well. Who knows, maybe they'll come out looking like the good guys at the conference. Or maybe if they announce that the system will require a constant interet connection, they' probably get Booed off the stage.

$500, yikes. That and reiterating that you will need a constant Internet connection is a deal breaker for me. Plus if you save another grand you can build a gaming PC that will look a lot better than the 720.

Very true. And at the end of the day, depending on how sick the games look, the price tag will mean very little to people.
How many people bought a $299 Xbox and a $199 Bluray player?

From the sounds of it this new Xbox really sounds like garbage. $120 a year for live, a blu-ray drive that wont play movies but games only, I just hate everything I'm hearing about it. At this point it's all rumors and speculations, I'm going to have to wait until the press release before I make a decision, but if any of this is true I'm finally going to have to cave in and get a PS4 because it sounds terrible.

While MS might not be as marketing savy as Apple (or more accurately the late Jobs) they have had a pretty strong foothold on the console market and I doubt they're going to drop the ball with a new system.

Agreed. As I've said before, getting up-in-arms about a product that hasn't been released is useless. Wait until it's been announced, THEN complain. Microsoft wants to make money, they not going to alienate their largest demographics. Having said that, hardcore gamers might have to accept they're no longer the largest demographic.

And I think there is such a wide range in the Xbox demographic from kids who have no money and only get games when they're bought by mom/dad to the hardcore gamers that go through a new game in a day and play every waking/non-working hour.
Setting a $120 online fee would almost immediately knock out a chunk of players.

Do auto companies make money on used cars sold - yes, in parts and labour, as a car gets older, it costs more to maintain.
Do studios make money from movie rentals - yes, rental discs which are priced higher to include the license to rent the movie. Licencing deals to companies like Netflix.

I don't know why being asked to be compensated for the entertainment a game has provided makes you feel like you are being robbed. I know what being robbed feels like. It's when you see your $1 iphone game that you spent the last 8 months making being pirated on torrent sites.
