Interesting article on new xbox

The fact that MS hasn't come out to deny this, despite the rather intense backlash they're getting (especially after today's mess), it's starting to look like the rumors are true.

They might as well just not release the console, that's about the chance they'll have in the next generation of the console war if they actually pull this.

It's making the Wii U seem like a good idea lol. The PS4 is going to be king of the consoles even with it's likely crap features.

Edit: An exec has spoken and given gamers a giant middle finger.

Pass this along to all your friends so they know what not to buy.

Strictly speaking, that guy's not on the Xbox team, and I'm sure he's not authorized to make official statements about unannounced hardware. I'm also sure his boss was having a few stern words with him today after that hit NeoGAF. I know mine would if I did something like that.. hehe.

I sat down at lunch today, with a friend who lives out in the boonies with only high-latency, low-bandwidth satellite internet. I asked him if he would buy an Xbox if they did something like this and he says. "Nope... You read that tweet, didn't you?" (referring to what that article was talking about).

Oh even if they turn around and change things (which would be nothing but software) this has hurt them as has them not coming out and denying anything. They're using the ea/bioware mass effect 3 school of PR: talk until the crapstorm gets to scary size.

Heh.. now there's rumors that the guy's been fired.

MS really needs to just announce the system. Prior to Sony's announcement, it was all just speculation. The only negative I can remember was the idea about used games, but Sony was quick to shoot that rumor down the very same day, and they said right in the announcement itself that the system could be played offline, despite all of the online features.

Right now, most of what's surrounding Microsoft's system is negative. No one really cares about system specs or any of that right now, it's all turning into a ****storm. The adage of "any publicity is good publicity" isn't really working out for them right now.

You want to talk an always-on device? Look at smartphones. Mine's been online uninterrupted for months. But you know what? I can still use practically every app on there, including all of the games, with the thing in airplane mode.

I bet the reason why MS isn't officially confirming or denying the rumors and speculation is because everything rumored is something that they're actually considering but are sitting and seeing what the feedback is in order to gauge whether or not they can get away with it.

Supposedly, word is moving around the net that MS will be making an announcement this month for the new system. They'll probably announce a conference like Sony did, but I can see them having the actual physical console at the show as that was what a lot of people wanted from the Sony one.

Whether the new system is online or not, plays old games or not, washes my underwear or not, they will sell out to the hard core gamers, get high praise from the media, prices will skyrocket the first year for a used one, That's the world we live in...

Now excuse me, I'm going to go play Donkey Kong on my WiiU...

$5 says the guy who was a complete ********* is the one who pitched the idea to MS to make the system always connected to the Internet.

I've been a Sony guy since day one. I own an original Xbox but ONLY because Shenmue II was on it. That's it. I've always thought MS made bad decisions and saw this coming ever since they started with the MS only hard drive crap they pulled that would brick your system. I hope they crash and burn. I've always hated Xbox :lol

I wish these companies would stop making games exclusives to their systems. I mean Halo okay, that's your base franchise just like Mario is to Nintendo and Sonic was to Sega, but other than that just have them out for all of the systems. That's the one downside of the Wii was that it was mostly Nintendo only games and they didn't bring in many outside companies. Sony made that mistake with MGS4 and it didn't sell as well for that reason.

It wouldn't shock me if they're doing this on purpose: they have no real intention of doing this always on thing or any DRM stuff BUT they want us to think it so when they suddenly change their minds they're suddenly heroes for listening to gamers. It worked for EA/Bioware; as soon as they put out the ME extended ending everyone was suddenly kissing their butts again.

Nailed it. People are drones..

Jokes on them i don't buy these new systems for at least 3-4 years given all the bugs that are out there. I waited until 2009 to get a 360 once the RROD was nearly banished. Too much crap to go wrong.

I'll probably just skip the initial rush. That'll give enough time to sort out if the consoles are generally faulty (like the RROD). Plus, by the time I buy one a few months down the line, there will be more games available, and I'll be able to just walk into a store and pick one up.

Yeah i did the preorder for the PS2 and that was a mess thanks to gamestop. Turns out 2 of their guys were stealing the cash you gave them and they were refusing to make good on the purchase until they got threats. I'm not one of these idiots camping at walmart for 3 days waiting for a console.

Yea, I learned not to rush to get the the first gen of a new system with the 360. No wifi, no hdmi, a deafining fan, and 3 occurrences of the RROD.

My 360 used to sound like a jet taking off but it's not bad now. Not sure if it's wearing out or what lol. I need to get another one as a backup. Unlike cartridge systems these won't survive 30 years of use.

Why be an early adopter when there aren't even any games yet? It takes at least a year of a console being out for it to develop a really robust software base.
