Immortan Joe costume from Mad Max, Fury Road

Oh and I gotta ask what are your plans for the breathing sac I have an extra baby stroller canopy I was thinking of using but I think it might be too big

Regarding the transparent worbla - I'm looking something to mould my chest-piece over, but since they don't make womens armour costumes out of plastic, but out of fabric (annoying), is fabric not appropriate to mould over? Will I just be stuck with wasted materials because little bits of fibre will stick all over it? Just would hate to ruin a $100 piece of the stuff, and buy a costume I'm not going to use again, just to be back at square one.

Sadly building a mold off of this might be your best bet

Bigboss - I'm leaving the breathing sac mostly to my girlfriend, I think she's going to shape it with wire and put vinyl over it. I like the stroller canopy idea though.

joanna - you might have that issue. I think it depends on the fabric and how hard to rub the worbla into it. I know they make plastic male forms for shirts, one might exist for the female form. For what it's worth, I used a t-shirt over a body form so as not to burn it. Even though it was a failed attempt at shaping it, none of the fibers from the shirt stuck to the worbla. Also, be prepared for a fight as forming on top of something with worbla is really rough.

That's exactly what I was looking at moulding off of haha.

Just don't want to buy it and find it to ruin the worbla and then have a costume I won't wear.

That's good to know. Push comes to shove I'm making this damn thing out of layers of cling film. :p

Not sure how you would shape hot Worbla over a fabric "form." Stiffen it with plaster first? I would get a cheap, blow-molded plastic mannequin torso and build up the, um, pectoral areas with aluminum foil and foil tape or duct tape and then form the Worbla over that.

Yeah, that's a much better idea - I just worry my proportions are going to get really screwy what with the addition of the corset to the mix. The smaller my waist gets, the bigger the chest looks. Don't want to look like I'm a bobble head, especially with the bellows and mask etc. But a much easier/more viable option for moulding against for sure.

Mask progress

WOW! Looks so good!!!! So much progress so quickly!

Welp. Seems I won't be able to work on Joe for a while. The thermistor on my printer came loose and I'm not exactly sure how to go about repairing that. I emailed support, but it's Saturday so I might not hear back until Wednesday. Womp womp.

The mask is looking great BigBoss! I received my goody bag from ahoudini yesterday. Thank you sooo much!

I worked on cobbling together some of the badges today. I still need to weather the skull patch.

Eriks,

My pleasure!

Tell me about the diamond patch. Where does it go?

You can see it in these shots- mine isn't exact by any means. The patch closest to his elbow at the top of the forearm. The smaller sheriff star goes right under it. There is a third badge on the forearm, but it's difficult to make out exactly what it is.

Bigboss> Which Joe mask maker did you get yours from? I've been trying to source one that actually opens!

Wow, a ton of really fantastic and priceless information on this thread. For the past few weeks I've been trying to figure out how to tackle Joe's chest / arm / shoulder armor. I knew I wanted to work with transparent worbla, but I had no idea how I was going to form it. Between all of the great ideas and links here, I'm confident I'll be able to do a pretty darn good job. Using regular worbla for the trim, I never would have thought of that. Fantastic idea! I likely would have ended up using actual fabric strips and hot glue, which likely would have resulted in disaster. My only big challenge to figure out now is Joe's holster / belt. I was thinking craft foam would be my best bet, seeing as it would be easy to form and all. If anyone is willing to sell some 3d printed castle nuts, I'd greatly appreciate it! I went to the local Home Depot a couple of weeks ago to grab a bag, but realized upon picking them up that they're actually a bit heavy. (Go figure!) Thank you all for all of the awesome information!

I found a local auto salvage yard I'm going to go there this weekend and try and get me a bunch of car emblems and whatever other goodies I can find if I can I'll grab extra for y'all

The castle nut files are ready to print. I need to try them and then I will upload them.
