Glitch from Reboot (Progress Pics up) WIP (Need more ref pics)

aight, gimme a couple minutes. Got the cog corrected. Working on the body, then I'll do my export/import magic

EDIT: allright, give this a once over. and lemme know

I printed a test page and everything seemed to come out perfectly. The body has been given a chamfer all around, cog has been corrected to the right size of 2.25" Diameter. and the inner circle has still retained it's 1.5" diameter.

Glitch... BFG....

Don't know. I don't think the show was ever really popular enough. Also, toys like that didn't become popular until later I think.

I really like the way the body turned out with all the tabs and whatnot, but the cog piece is back to craziness again. Do you have any control over the way the pieces split? I tried unfolding something once and it just became a huge mess. The file you uploaded previous to this one had a relatively nice and orderly layout on the cogs.

EDIT: I figured out why it's so complicated, it's because of the bevel on the back of the cog. If you take it out it'll be much easier to pep and cast, too.

I don't think the size is what did it, just the bevel. I printed it out and I'm looking at it now. Because of the bevel, it had to split a bunch of pieces off because they're just too complicated to be able to print in one flat sheet.

Haha, lots of edits in this thread.

I like it, just one last suggestion. Can you make the back of the cog as a separate, flat piece? I ask because it helps to have something there to hold the piece in the right shape. Without the back it'll most likely warp when the resin is painted on.

By the way, what's the MM stand for? Matt Munson?

Oh, and I've almost got the body pepped, just have to glue the last side into the rest of it and then smooth the corners back into place.

lol, the MM stands for Millimeter. It's so I could differ between the two formats. I've uploaded a new file that has the backing for the cog.
I can't wait to see some progress pics!

I have to say, I uploaded all of them cause as each finished I read another link, XD, but anyway, you unfolding is getting better with each link, ans Risu was 100% right about being able to use the cog for casting one, tough I think I'll pawn that work off on my apprentice. (Ahhh, it's good to teach other people) But I kid, or do I o_O

just a quick ponder; i wonder why they never made a glitch toy. or did they?
Because the show was never that popular in the US, so they probably didn't bother exploring all the marketing ideas, I know they didn't, because my Father actually looked for one for me when I was little, and got me a Matrix figure instead since he couldn't find it, well, now he'll find it sitting at his laptop on Fathers Day if I get it finished.

Well I would like to make the cog using your pep model though, epilepticsquirl, and I will have progress pictures as soon as I do. As for this:

all of the above. hehe

Send me a PM next time you're heading this way, or you are going to a con. =)

Final version looks good. I've got the main body pepped, but I'm not feeling up to breaking out the chemicals today. I'll finish pepping the cog and take a picture of those pieces, though.

Same as soon as I can print it out, I just finished my Spartan Cod piece for Master Chief so I'm a little pepped out since it was HD and I did it in less then a full day while at school XD so much free time between final exams.

It's good to know there are other people out there that don't study for finals. :lol So much more fun time that way.

Cool, cool, And yup, it's all BullS*** and it's bad for ya! (George Carlin, R.I.P.) Anyway, good luck on the cog, cant wait to see it.

It's definitely a lot harder than the body. I'm just finishing up the window/bezel piece, then I move on to the really hard stuff.

I've encountered a slight problem with the pepping. The window was fine, but the cogs have too many tabs. In some cases each side is divided into as many as 4 tabs. It makes the process of cutting out the pieces extremely confusing. Is there any way you can reduce the number of tabs to just one on each edge?

Good question, I'll play with pepakura tonight; see what I can come up with.

EDIT: If you click on the flap tool (bottom row, 5th from the left. or just hit CTRL+F) and then right click on the flap, you can actually delete the flaps you don't want in there. Pretty cool.

In other news, I just got "The Art of Reboot" in today! There isn't much in terms of glitch though. Apparently, glitch was originally going to be a more organic sentient keytool. In essence a "blob" that came out of his belt and transformed into whatever he needed. To quote the book

Brendan's 'organic' Glitch idea was cool, but a bit of a non-starter! Simple, mechanical and easy to animate on tight deadlines was the order of the day.

neat. lol

Not sure if this is allowed or not. If not, i'll take it down. But a crappy phone pic of early glitch!

Interesting. I like what we got though, and I'll like it even more on my arm.

I went by Wal-Mart today on my search for the best color match and found just that. It's one of WM's cheap, off brand cans in Gloss Blue. And it costs less than $2 after tax. I still want to do the other thing I had planned, but as of yet I've been unable to find any 1/8" wide painter's tape. Although actually, now that I've pepped the body and realize how much smaller the real thing is than I saw it in my mind, maybe I should actually be looking for 1/16" wide tape. That's how they paint on pinstripes on cars, right?
