To be fair them taking it to the View was well calculated as it's the specific audience they're trying to get into the theater.
Yep, marketing in a nutshell!
I think the polarization is bringing about some pretty interesting articles from a societal angle. This one is a pretty interesting read.

There are crazies and somewhat logical, normal people on all sides. It's just a movie. It's up to each individual fan to go bonkers and complain... go bonkers and defend... anticipate it... or completely ignore it. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm going in as a VERY passionate fan with an open mind and expectations firmly in-check.
We're getting an interesting peek into the individual fan's true colors. It's entertainment. Nothing more-- nothing less.
On the female angle, I couldn't look my girlfriend, mother, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, or friends in the eye and tell them women can't be Ghostbusters.
On the fan angle, if you aren't happy with this reboot, there are two PRIMO documentaries coming out, including the making-of doc CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: REMEMBERING GHOSTBUSTERS. I can't even begin to tell you the sheer amount of awesomeness that's going to be in this thing.
