GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

Only a little?

yeah, there isn't much dying left to do these days, just the final one ;o)

what hollywood doesn't get with these reboots is that nostalgia doesn't work if you CHANGE so much of it that it might as well be something new.
Nostalgia only works if it's an exact copy, but with NEW adventures. Especially with DVD around these days to constantly remind us of the original and what
made it so great to us.

For example, I don't care of Madea turns into baxter the fly in Bay Turtles 3. Without David Wise to write him, he won't be the same loveable baxter that we grew up with.
It'll be something totally new in name only.

until hollywood gets this message, you'll see one failed reboot after the next with fans...only the casual audience will like them.

Yeah, except this is not the case at all. But this is the reason all this teeth gnashing is ridiculous. Hollywood is not going to make the EXACT movies. They are going to remake old movies with their new touches to make money. If you want an exact copy just watch the original. It can't even be an exact copy with new adventures because a lot of those older movies were lucky to be popular or released at the right time or whatever.

Dan Aykroyd just released a statement. i don't think it helped matters. he seriously put in 'man fans'.

it's so GD sad to see what ghostbusters has degraded into, ALL because of Amy Pascal and Paul feig, it seriously wants to make me cry at times ;o).
they don't realize how bad it makes them look trying to blame it all on forbiden topics, and then trying to win people back by pointing out their gender can like it?

it's the most ridiculous thing i've seen inthe past 20 years online to boot.
I honestly don't want to live on this planet anymore. earth 3 any better? ;o)

How much did they pay Dan? Let's not forget that Cameron said the last Terminator was great too. My folks wanted to go see this until they read up on the mess stirring around it, they've no interest in it now.

true. I don't blame dan on this at all.

not only is he being payed, but he lives and breaths ghostbusters more than any of us.

sigh..
heh, i'm rewatching brave and the bold all the way through for the first time, and I forgot about this epsiode. might just be my favorite of the series. it stars all women. It's written by a woman. It treats everyone equally. it doesn't draw attention to the fact that they are all women. and it even has an AWESOME musical number making fun of the male super heroes status in bed. I never ONCE felt insulted or betryed, and I wanted MORE.

Imagine that sony....this is how you do it right.

haha people in this thread were saying how ashamed Aykroyd must feel and he says something good about the movie and then people say he was paid. Oh man, the cognitive dissonance in this thread is pure gold.

Did you read it? The marketing quotes from the original cast are laughably scripted. People don't talk like that. Groups of marketing wonks think that's what humans sound like. I'm not saying Aykroyd necessarily does dislike the film - he hasn't demonstrated the most consistent good taste in his late career - but I'll eat my proton pack if that's a genuine unscripted thought from the man. The entire cast is contractually obligated to promote the film; Dan's got even more invested in its success both financially and for the future viability of the brand. He'll say what he has to - or allow Sony to put whatever words they want to in his mouth. It's not a good sign that the positive feedback from Aykroyd and Hudson is so clearly manufactured.

I already have a fan-edit in mind:

Fade in: Company logos.
Cut to: End credits.

(Audio replaced with Ray Parker Jr's original song)

I just died a little inside.
Why do I get a sharknado vibe with this cameo? where is Judd H?

:facepalm well that is just, no comment

I heard Martian potatoes are great :p

I forgot that AMC has those automated ticket tellers now. I'm going to try and buy a ticket for one thing, and go into bay turtles 2 when it comes out and see how that goes.
If it works ok and no one notices, i'll do the same for feigbusters. this is not getting my money, but I DO want to see how bad they are ;o).

Why do that? It could be the best movie in the world at this point and there ZERO chance you would like it. Even if you did, At least don't come to this thread and say it then people would start saying how you were paid to post nice things...

Yikes; I'm seeing that Aykroyd "review" all over the internet as some sort of validation of the film. How gullible - or desperate to like this reboot - are people? "Aykroyd-bot claims it will purchase not just one but multiple tickets!"

Oh, it's so laughable and sad all at once. Yes, the creator of the franchise, the executive producer of the film, is not only going to the theater and plunking down his $10 to watch his own movie. He's also bringing all of his friends. That is so real. It's undeniable. As the always-alliterative Ernie Hudson put it:

"Four fiercely funny foxy females busting ghosts... Phenomenal!"

I can no longer fly in the face of this completely legitimate praise from the original cast. Consider me just overflowing with confidence.

We saw the Ackroyd spot on TV last night. I heard the words, "that looks good we should go and see that".

As a femmenist myself I said I would allow her to go watch it by herself!!! But I would only be accompanying her if she could manage to drag my cold dead body into the theatre. Now I'm worried, coz she's deceptively strong!

Talking at work today and a couple of the guys had the same conversation. One guy is making his wife watch the originals (she's not seen them) because he can't bear to have this version be her only experience of what Ghostbusters is.

But it appears that for women McCarthy is the draw, my wife and the other work wives and women t work are all wanting to see it because she's in it. No interest in the concept just Melissa. I don't get it, maybe she's an outlet for all the grossness and inappropriateness they don't feel they can do in real life or something! I just know that when I do it, I get told off.

as carter on tmnt once said , 'most people are like sheep, they'll believe anything they are told'.
It's been my belief that supporters of this film will go to any a length to convince themselves that it's A) not only good, but B)Good for the franchise, that they've gone beyond reason and have been driven to insanity like us 'haters' at this point.

My favorites are the folks who say ' I can't wait to take my 7 year old daughter to see this'. As if maybe the kid liking this will validate their reason to like it? what kind of kid would you take to a paul feig film? what could they relate to about it? Especially if it where a NORMAL R rated paul feig film...oy.

we've got less than a month and a half left of insanity.
then hopefully this will be forgotten about after the first week of release, and into the $2 bin at walmart.

But, thanks to pascal and feig, I THink the damage to ghostbusters as a brand has been irreversible at this point. I no longer think of it with happiness. just contempt.
I'm even second guessing my thought at giving sony money to see the re release in theaters. they don't deserve it, and neither does the brand.

I also saw on the net someone else finally noticed that aykroyd has practically been media silent since the time of the first trailer hitting, and the statements he released are so obviously not his own. before this, they noted he was constantly talking up ghostbusters three frequently. if that doesn't tell you his real thoughts on this, according to them, nothing will. I tend to agree.

I think Dan underestimated the dislike of this movie, be best for him to just stay quiet and roll around in the cash they gave him. I need to scrape up 8.00 as the dollar store in town has the 2 original movies in a box set lol. Boy that website sure is one sided in bashing folks who don't like the idea of the movie, they're as bad as the guys bashing it only because it has women in it. This movie is actually bringing out the worst in men and women.
