GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

Did we ever get a reboot that acknowledged the original version?

Was I the only one who saw those gags coming a mile away?

Are those VFX bad or am I seeing things?

the thing about the VFX is odd, because... and this is the best way I can describe it...they don't look like they are actually THERE. that ghost lady at the start for example. it looks like they saved money by not having it move at all and just kind of flopped it on screen. not even bothering to mesh the composition in with the rest of the shot.

I'm going to spend an hour or so reading reactions on line.......and then watch it again.

I have feeling people's expectations of funny are lowered so low these days, this might actually do decently at the box office.

LOL...look at the DOWNVOTES!

they are catching up to the likes again. Maybe there IS a god.

reading some posts elsewhere.. I like this guys thoughts..

>>>
But this isn't a sequel. It's a reboot. It has always been touted as such right up until now. If Sony really did try to retroactively connect this to the other two movies that is a huge red flag. Come on, I'm not trying to bash anyone or bring down people who enjoyed the trailer but the signs of trouble are so obvious it is almost comical. This movie comes out in a few months and this is the first trailer we've seen. All flash, no substance.>>>>

he's right about the stuff at the beginning. if this movie is so good, why not let it stand out on it's own? why all the nostalgia at the start to remind people of the old stuff that never left our consciousness?

The trailer went by so fast I didn't evne notice this background.

Maybe those reshoots DID make it a direct sequel. my god this is going to be bad.

It's the classic reboot dilemma. If you try to connect too closely with the original, the question is "Why'd you bother? Just watch the original." If you deviate from the original too much it's "Why'd you bother to even name it the same?"

The thing is, this isn't for most of us, who grew up with the movie. It's for 15 year olds. And I bet they'll come out in droves.

I don't know about that, but we'll see I guess. I really don't thing the Ghostbusters brand, on it's own, is strong in that market. The last GB film came out 12 years before a 15 years old was born. Also, the audience that these women usually attract skews much older (late 20's through early 40's). Now, if they had put all the Marvel actors in there I'd say the 15 year olds would come in droves. :lol

Yeah that trailer did nothing to clarify if its a reboot or sequel, it basically said its both. The city busting scene looks a bit over the top..

reading some comments online.

The official ghostbusters page seems mostly negative.
the YT comments seem more mixture of negative and positive.

IMDB comments seem the same.

THE ONLY PLACE I am seeing 90% positive comments so far is on the proton charging FBpage. but I think they edit out some of the negative ones...so that may not be a true reflection.

I'll be checking some of the others in a bit just to gauge reaction at how this might do with the feneral public....
but refreshing the trailer, look at all those DOWNVOTES! YES!

What I'm wondering is, HOW BAD was that original cut, that they HAD to reshoot it to pump up the nostalgia? I'm wiling to be that firehouse scene was NOT in the initial batch of shots and that the ladies will suddenly 'upgrade' their headquarters when they have more money.
- another great comment ''I'd rather watch every Adam Sandler movie in a row for two years then watch this abomination once.'

the other thing I like is that some of the people who WHERE positive about it before are now either having doubts, or saying it outright sucks....or looks like scooby doo.

Having now watched it, I'd say....eh, it looks utterly nondescript.

I've seen the origin story before. The only interesting things are ghosts possessing people and someone actually building a device to amplify paranormal activity. The rest of it? Whatever.

Knowing what went into making this movie, I have no idea why it is a reboot. I mean, there's literally nothing in the trailer to suggest that this needed to be a reboot at all. Unless, of course, you just wanted to recycle a good portion of the original film.

Look, on its face, it looks...eh...like a serviceable comedy. If the original didn't exist and this was the first film in the series, I'd probably think "That looks ok. >shrug<" But as a reboot of the franchise, I just cannot help asking "Why? Why did you bother?" This is exactly the WRONG way to do a reboot because it's (A) really really close to the original, and yet (B) completely divorced from the original in terms of timeline.

I don't have any interest in seeing this film because...I already saw it 30 years ago.

I don't care that it's women in the roles. I'd be saying the exact same thing if this were a reboot with the guys from Anchorman or Dodgeball or any number of modern male comic actors. My objection is the reboot aspect of this that yet seems to be trying SO hard to mirror the original, with only a few minor tweaks here and there to differentiate. What's the damn point?

The whole thing just seems like uninspired suits designed this film by committee. The end result may be passable as just another film, but to launch a franchise? I ain't convinced.

I don't think this will do terribly at the box office, but I don't think that we're looking at the big franchise launch Sony hoped for.

And, by the way, let's remember that this is JUST a trailer. The kind of ambivalence and "Eh, whatever" that I felt about this is fairly close to how I felt about the Fantastic Four trailer.

what I really want to see is the first cut of this film, BEFORE all the reshoots happened....and nostalgia got put in. I want to see how absolutely bat terrible that one was for them to have to go this route.

and is that Bear trap thing supposed to be the ACTUAL trap? how are they even going to carry it around? the original trap was kind of big and unwieldy, but this thing?

either reitman or ramis said the original movie has a cycle of disbeleif to it. the domino effect where you slowly introduced the audience to stuff and by the end of the movie, you convinced them that everything worked. that is a VERY bad recreation ofthat quote, but i'm kind of on overload now.

I don't see this movie having that same effect. the props they use just don't look like they'd work in the real world...the trap has an oven cover on it just like the proton pack does....

I'm with solo on this one. if this was the first film in the franchise, and we had NOTHING else to judge it against, I MIGHT give it a chance. but knowing what went into making this thing, and how it got this far? sony will have to re hire amy pascal just to REFIRE her again for putting us in this nightmare.

Looks like fun. :) Will it be the Ghostbusters I've loved my whole life? No, but nothing ever will.

Besides, if nothing else, it's getting us Ecto Cooler again.

the other thing I find funny:

People on FB who before said 'wait for the trailer before judging' are now saying 'you can't judge it by a trailer, wait for the movie, idiots!'

lol.....nice to see more people are saying 'uhm.......'

by this.

twitter verse seems mostly positive as well.....

alot of women hitting on I guess it's kristen wigg that looks like egon. I've lost interest at this point caring to tell who's who...

lots of proton gun licking gifs....sigh.

Just watched the trailer again......

All I can think of is sighing......

And looking at these two extras in the background with a 'WTF' type look.

Also, look at that one shot of all those possessed people in times square. I BET YOU that is where the thriller dance number comes in..if it made the new cut.

About the only goodthing today is the downvotes are STILLLLLL outweighing the good votes.

trailer looks aright, not something i'd see in a theater, regardless of how badly they are pumping the nostalgia factor. If you like any of feigs comedies then you'll prob like this one.

also, what's up with the trend of re hashing the original score as a slowly played piano number? It sounds weird in this trailer and doesn't get me pumped the way I hoped. it def worked for star wars and somewhat for Jurassic World.
