Ghostbusters movie by Paul Feig

Tongue-in-cheek people, just tongue-in-cheek. Let's imagine the same props that we're seeing now with the original cast from the first movie. Would that make it more palatable?
I'm sure half the haters would've jumped on the "Lover bandwagon" if that would have been the case:rolleyes It's also a mean to bring more women into the franchise, the hobby and that big geek world universe...what's wrong with that?

Please don't-

*Notices how long the post is*

Oh, that tears it. I'm dropping the hammer. I never try use this point because I respect movie fans for loving something that's just so darn lovable when it works, but you leave me no choice.

*Clears Throat*

It's only a movie.

Then in the future, either make your question clearer, or don't bother asking.

And as for "It's only a movie," yeah, it's only a movie. But it's part of an ongoing trend of movie making that is resulting in many mediocre films being released. If you're someone who cares about movies and storytelling in general, it's part of a problem where stories are just vehicles for marketing, rather than vice versa. I see that as a problem in Hollywood. A big one. If you don't, hey, that's fine.

Or... you could have asked me to elaborate. Making a post that long about a question you don't understand to berate a movie you haven't even seen is just goofy.

pretty much this. very rarely will you find someone who cares enough about a franchise to do it right. I was never into transformers, so I can't really speak for how bay did that franchise bad. although I know he did. But imagine if someone who cared about the property got ahold of it and how much cooler it could have been. same goes for turtles, and same goes for ghostbusters. you've got people working on these things that mean a great deal to some of us here...and when they either put so little effort into it, it hurts....or just change it so much it's not what you loved and might as well be a different franchise...that's a problem in today's modern hollywood. especially with the mantra that 'hey, if it doesn't work, just reboot it...why bother taking the time to get it right?'

sigh.

And for the record, if the old cast had ghost bikes, I would have screamed 'toy merchandising' ;o).

You know, having more than one method of transit is a practical business model. They're just motorcycles with their logo on it.

Well, to be honest, there were several things done in GB2 to sell more toys from the existing REAL GB merch line.

Yeah, I find that more eyeroll worthy than totally objectionable. It's silly if it doesn't actually help the story, but whatever. I don't really care that much about that aspect. It more just goes back to the whole "Why are you even doing this?" part about the project, with the "keep it the same, but different" angle.

Of course it's practical. You wouldn't believe all the plumbers, exterminators, electricians and firefighters whipping around on their company bikes in my hood!

GB2 was basically a rehash of the first movie too, with RGB overlays. The down on their luck going into business story, the junky car getting an upgrade, the busting montage, they're incarcerated, Winston is somehow left out to be added later. The mayor sets them free and gives them the keys to the city. A 40-foot character walks down the street of NYC, stepping on cars and stuff. There's just sort of a weird blowing up of the bad guy in the end. Venkman woos Dana. I don't think anyone holds that film in as high regard as the original, but at least it's spending time with the beloved original team.

I think if given the choice of seeing this movie on opening day or a comet hitting and destroying the earth…i would take the comet.

and the comet destroyed the only bridge out of town too.....but, if this is a bad movie, you'd forget the town wasn't surrounded by water, so there would probably be a land exit somewhere too..

The SECOND I saw this was the final nail in the coffin for this movie IMHO. I MIGHT check it out when it hits netflix sometime in the next 5 years. Between this, The garbage men costumes and just the general disturbance in the force I get from it I am out.

what saddens me even more is all the twitter love paul feig seems to be getting for this crap. do people love the brand this much they don't care about quality so long as something comes out? or are they really that positive, they'll wait and see?

I want this movie to suck so bad, even the most positive person will start trashing it.

That's...not going to happen. I can guarantee as much.

Some people love Paul Feig and his films. Some love Melissa McCarthy. Some love Kristen Wiig. Some will defend it purely because it's a film that gender-flipped the roles, and that supports their overall socio-political wishes in some way. And yes, some people so love the brand that they will find a way to love this movie because it bears the brand. It's been true of many other franchises, and it'll be true with this one as well. That's the reason these films get made in the first place: the strength of the brand.

Personally, I wouldn't invest a ton of emotional energy into wanting this film to flop. I mean, go ahead and dislike it if you want. But don't focus that general sense of "I don't like this" on wishing for some ultimate outcome that vindicates your disregard for the film. You'd be much better off just disengaging from it altogether than going that route.

Most folks didn't follow and/or don't care about the behind the scenes drama. If you set all that aside, what most folks - outside the RPF - saw, was a director sharing images from the set.

You really can't conceive how somebody might have a different subjective opinion about the props and the project?

No different than you and the other supporters who think that there's no way that this movie can be anything but good.

Lol, what?

Why don't you go ahead and quote me saying anything to that effect.

I did say that I'm approaching this with a glass half full mindset. I did say I think these women are hilarious.

But I definitely did not say that this movie will be good, or that it's somehow guaranteed to be.

Edit to add: actually, where did anybody in this thread say that there's no way that this movie can be anything but good? Where else on the internet did this happen?

There have been folks who have said that they're going to wait for the movie to come out before judging it (what a novel idea), but I don't think anyone in their right mind has said anything to that effect.
