Game of Thrones

I don't know about that, he is supposed to be working on book 6 which is (supposedly) mostly done. Whether we'll get book 7 is another matter entirely, we'll probably get more side stories and supplemental books on the world of a Song of Ice and Fire before we see book 7, along with tons of blog entries, a few more Wild Card books with at least one story written by him in each, and not to mention an episode or 2 each season of the show.

To be fair, he did not write any episodes in Season 5 or Season 6, I believe, mostly so he could focus on getting Book 6 done. I think he's basically done writing for the show at this point. I doubt he'll abandon the books altogether and, while he looks overweight, aside from that we have no reason to believe that he's in any physical danger of departing this mortal coil. Still, I'm glad he's told the show runners the end (in broad strokes) so that at least the story can be wrapped up in some fashion.

1. Jon Snow is not necessarily "Jon Snow" anymore. He died which fulfills his vow to the Night's Watch to server until death. Coming back, Melisandre thinks he is the "Prince who was promised". Also he may not actually be a ******* as hinted strongly at with the Tower of Joy backstory

Right. that's what I was getting at. Jon Snow died, and was reborn as Jon Targaeryen. Jon Snow's death means his watch is ended. And, to be honest, it's fair for him to leave Dolorous Ed in command, since Ed knows what's coming and will do what he can to stop it. Even more than that, though, to really stop the forces of Winter, the realm needs to be united, and the North is the single largest region of the realm. Jon could unite them under his banner as a Stark (and as a Targaeryen). And there's some question as to whether Rhaegar actually married Lyanna Stark, which would mean Jon is legitimate and the heir to the throne. Although, arguably, Dany could contest his right to rule, but the problem would be ultimately resolved if they simply married.

2. Parts of the Brynden Rivers backstory are gotten from various musings, stories etc.. throughout the books and also covered more in the Dunk and Egg tales which take place around 90 years prior to the Fire and Ice series (The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight). Well worth reading

There's also the "World of Ice and Fire," which, I believe, is considered official canon at this point, along with the three stories mentioned above (which are now collected in the book "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," I think). Basically, the timing works because Aemon is REALLY freakin' old, and the Three Eyed Raven/Crow is even older than that, but kept alive by some kind of magic likely related to the Children of the Forest.

3. I hope not, but with the TV show outpacing as such, there is not as much incentive anymore

I think he still has incentive to finish the story on his own terms. He's already come out and said that there's a plotline that resolves in a particularly different way from what happens on the show, because a character is actually ALIVE in the books, but dead on screen (examples include
Gren, Barristan Selmy, Myrcella, Jeyne Westerling
).

Anyway, he's introduced a ton of stuff that will play out really, really differently even in Book 5 (the whole Grif and Young Grif thing...). So, yeah, I'd say he probably has his own vision of how the story resolves, and wants to make that happen. My hope is that he can crank out Book 7 after Book 6 is published, and we don't end up with another "Sorry I blew all the deadlines..." scenario.

I just watch the first four episode the past two days, and totally
agree with this. Don't get me wrong, I swear more than most, and am not offended by it, yet it felt like it cheapened the show a bit.

Reminds me of dexters sister in that show .people cussing that don't usually cuss so it just is not natural and sound " off " somehow .

So if Jon is a Targareyan are he and Danny related? If they married would that be incest? Not that that is an issue in this show....

Yes, if Jon is a Targaryen, then Daenerys would be his aunt. And Targaryens almost always married within their own family. Its a custom they brought with them from Valyria.

Brother-sister marriages were common in the Targaryen bloodlines. The inbreeding led to the Mad King and crazy Viscerys, as well as many others.

True, but I don't think there's any reason they wouldn't do aunt/nephew when they're basically the same age. Also, the inbreeding led to Rhaegar and Dany. And there were plenty of awful rulers who were the product of non-consanguineous marriages, like Aegon IV, Baelor I (arguably a terrible, but very pious king), and Aerys I (also not great, because he would've been better as a maester).

Ugh.... I feel worse for Summer and Hodor than I did for Ramsey's baby brother.

Maybe I'm just biased, but for all the talk in the books about direwolves' ferocity, toughness, and strength, they sure go out easily....may have been narrative hyperbole, but other than Lady(Grey Wind was locked up and should've gotten to rip out some Frey throats first), they seem to die pretty easily...I still believe Shaggy is still alive and I'll chalk up Summer's as lazy writing.

MRW I saw what happened to Hodor both in the past and the present...
