News on a wall-e toy

It will be $190

Disney are teaming up with WowWee to make Wall-E into a real robot. The toy, titled Ultimate Wall-E, will retail at a stonking $189.99 and will ship this summer. The robot will feature ten motors for movement, remote control, programming mode and obstacle, sound and touch detection sensors for basic environment interactions.

The collaboration between the big, bad and evil fun-loving kid's entertainment company and WowWee will further result in a whole host of Disney characters being reincarnated as a scary, robotic army. Next on the list is Tinkerbell, and this time she really flies. The new toys will be showcased at the upcoming Bay Area Maker Faire and, to be honest, we're a little scared they may all corrupt and attempt to take over the world. You have been warned. [Gearlog]

gaaaaahhhhhh, i was hoping hed be around $100, being that hes not even full scale. Sonofa...

A little more on the Wall-E announcement:
Designed by Disney, Pixar animators and Thinkway, the Ultimate WALL·E robot has 10 motors for lifelike movement. With voice activation and a follow-me mode, WALL·E can follow the sound of a human voice and detect someone entering a room. The robot has a variety of sensors that let it hear, navigate, and detect obstacles. It will sell for $189.99. The iDance WALL·E has USB ports, can play MP3 music, and has an audio in-jack that works with any iPod or MP3 player. It will sell for $24.99.

On the one above, I would be tempted to router out the eyes and pop in real lenses as well as a real laser pointer on the head. I would also paint out the neck area and redo some of that to make it look a bit nicer. Real tempting to rip at one to really improve the functions on it. :)

He does look pretty cool and I'm sure he's just like the Interactive R2-D2.
I think the eyes may be sensors.
Looks like his hands are only posable as well.

I wonder if his eyes are stuck in that position?

That's one thing I never got from the trailers, except maybe one or two shots... you don't realize how big he is. In most shots, he looks a lot smaller, until you see him standing next to something that gives size reference. He's what, about four feet tall when he's standing?

I would say that's about right.
His Body is around 19 to 20 inches tall.
He has about 12 inches clearance and when you add his neck and head he can easily be 4 feet tall.

I spent my day making his nose and I started glueing the panels to the lower half.

He's not going to be a complete robot due to the time I have left before the premiere.
He will be in his compact form with his eyes peeking out the top of his body.

Once I get the panels finished I will post another update.

a recent story from Disney about animatronic life size wall-e's in the parks said they would be 3 feet tall.

It all depends on the configuration, the track and head are so adjustable that at some point he's closer to 3' then he stretches out to 4' - think ET and his neck.

Yeah, he looks around 3.5 to 4 feet tall.
