I don't understand why Lord Abaddon has his panties in a bunch over my post.

It wasn't directed at him. It was directed at RShanko. HELLO? :rolleyes

Stop apologizing for RShanko's work. What really matters is that RShanko take the criticism whether negative or constructive and use it to improve his 'master'.

Well you and I have always been on opposite sides of the tact factor at times! :lol

And I never said that the final sold kit should be "sub-par" or need a "lot of clean-up", but we aren't even close to that point yet, and that's what I'm saying. When we reach somewhat closer then comment, and still nobody has to come off snarky.

:lol Discretion has never been one of my better qualities.

To each his own, but this model is right at the place I want with regards to size, expected price and detail.

The QMx Firefly is being handled by FX models and
based on the updates seen here:
http://www.fireflyshipworks.com/category/development/
it looks to be the incredible level of detail sought by the person who suggested "starting over".

The QMx Serenity will be a completed display replica about 18 inches long and will only be available as a finished piece.

I posted on the Firefly Ship Works site:

The originally suggested price for the QMx replica was in the $500-plus range and while it will most likely be gorgeous, it will also be the same as everyone else's.

If this three foot replica does reach completion and availability for sale, it is my intention to display it flying over an HO scale ALTRANS hovertrain as seen in "Trainjob".

I'm not a rivet-counter, so I expect that, based on what I've seen so far, this HO Firefly is going to make a pretty awesome display.

So once again QMX isn't actually creating something. I guess thats the only way the products will actually be released. After what happened to the Mal guns I really wouldn't hold my breath.

Considering that this is not a computer made 3d print right from the CGI files, I think of it more as a hand made artist sculpture. Sculptures are not perfect down to the thousands of an inch.

I think that the overall shape is done very nice and is not an easy task to do something like this model by hand. I think Ron has done a great job so far. I myself would rather have something hand made with all the human elements
built in rather than a model stamped out by a computer. It gives it personality.

It all comes down to personal preferences.

Yes, Todd, unless you are part of the 'Illuminutty' who seem to have nothing better to do with their time then troll and pig pile. where are the Mods. The fact that this same group of people tries to hide behind their lame a$$ excuses as to their boorish behavior lends itself to fanboy inadequacies that can only be compensated for by their constant 'nya nya nya' behavior that once again makes them look far worse then any perceived problems with a model. The fact that some arent even interested in the subject matter speaks VOLUMES as to their juvenile behavior. Im very disappointed at the same cast of characters and their pubescent inability to avoid trolling...and save your tired oft repeated and incredibly lame excuses as to why its not trolling...you know what youre doing and quite frankly youre acting like a little clique of punks. This is a place to create and share and Ron has done an admirable job on this thread of not responding to the same inadequate little weak ego school yard bully tactics. Put up your Firefly models or shut up.
Youre also the type of folks that if confronted in person would fold like dirty laundry because all you can do is hide behind (what YOU think) are clever words and excuses. Youre not schoolyard bullies in the real sense because in a REAL schoolyard you would have your lunches fed to you.
Time for the Mods to step in as a clown car just pulled up and a lot of bozos climbed out...a lot of bozos that are REAL brave behind the safety of a keyboard.

Don't quite know what to say here.

>Then best to say nothing<

There appear to be glaring issues with mis-alignment of panels and other symmetry factors that make it look just "off". The grey stuff all over the ship really softens the detail too much as has been said. What is the master made of? It looks like plaster?? I hope this is not what you are considering molding and offering for sale as it really needs cleaning up and I am not sure that even that would help it.

>For someone who doesnt know what to say you do run at the mouth quite a bit, dont you?<

I have no beef at all
>whatever :wacko<

I just feel like I am stating what should be obvious to all who see the pictures. Maybe consider starting over...???

>Maybe consider that if its so obvious that nobody NEEDS you to point it out and that they are capable of making up their own minds. Since you have no investment in this project other then joining your friends on the pile to hang out elsewhere OR build your OWN 3 Ft Firefly and put up or shut up. Hows THAT for constructive criticism?<

Okay, that'll be enough.

It's appropriate to constructively raise percieved issues in the pictures, but the points have been made. Let's just cool it and wait to see how Ron progresses.

I just watched Serenity yesterday (for some stupid reason I bought it on UMD, I don't care now that it was on sale, it's ridiculous trying to watch the movie on such a tiny screen when I'm sitting at home, but that has nothing to do with this really, so venting: over) and came back onto the RPF to find this thread!

I find myself agreeing with a lot of the previous criticism regarding symmetry and detail layout, as I think the paneling and edges should have been completed before the various hoses and the like were attached.

The caulking really does soften the detail as well, and even at 3 feet that will reduce the illusion of scale and mass.

But, it most certainly looks like a good 'ol Firefly class transport, and I can't wait to see the eventual additions and improvements before completion.

Box art. The lable will also say;
Fiberglass shell kit, accurate to original TV series ship, experienced builder reccomended.

Well. Frankly what's been shown so far looks terrible to me. Perhaps there is a ton of clean up to come. But either way, the ego and arrogance that has been shown in other threads by the builder has put me off ever dealing with him. Very distasteful.

What a mean person.

Why do you post in these thread at all?

No one asked opinion. Why do you think people care what you think?

Tranh

Opinions and feedback are what discussion boards are for. I think, as long as an opinion is stated honestly and without personally attacking a person, then it's just as valid, whether perceived negatively or not.

If valid negative opinions are avoided, because they might 'hurt' someone, then no one benefits and we all just go around puffing each other up and nothing is learned and product is not improved.

I have to give Shanko credit for building up a subject in a large scale which doesn't exist anywhere else. But I also have to give those with honest opinions credit for daring to express them in the interest of improving the product.

'Nuff Said by me.

What we have seen so far of the 'master' does fit in perfectly with the box art.

Very 'impressionistic' looking.

If you have specific constructive criticism that will help Ron make a better piece, then you are in the right place. If you have comments on things that Ron has done well, you are in the right place.

If your comments are intended to bait or troll, then you need to step away from the computer for a little while and take a breather as this is not the place for trolling or baiting.

Now lets get back to the topic at hand, the Serenity.

I say Kudos to RShanko for even trying to build this model. I am liking what I see so far.

Could it be better. Of course, but then again any model can be improved, the question is when do you stop. If some people wanted all the detail as shown on screen then it may be years before something is finished.

First you want more detail, then you want a detailed cockpit, then you want an interior, cargo area, mule, rotating engines, lights, cows etc

Could it be worse. It could be a lot worse.

I am not impressed with some of the negative comments here and do not find them useful at all.

Thanks for the support, let's have fun with this. Let's talk about the Firefly (in general), and what you want to do with your ship.
Check out these two ships. The neck and head of the box art ship on the series box set is....
Firefly2ships005.JPG

Not like the original design, the box picture shows a shorter looking fuselage.
...off compared to the classic Firefly class ship.
033.JPG

If they did the rendering for the box all by themselves, as an artist they did a fantastic job.
I like the running lights and the bright yellow bulbous rear with the flaps open.
So, what I'm going to do with my ship, is light the heck out of it.
I'm going to try to even find little rotating beacons, and use those for effect.
I like the "Train Job" set up with a nice train set and mountains and stuff, and also the landing gear retracting up into the ship manually is important to me. I'll do a cam that mounts to the hull via the base ply that makes the cargo area floor and stiffens the ship and landing gear mounting possibilities..
Mounting the wings will be plug in, rods in tubes, and the side engines rotate the way I'm casting them.
Locking the engine vert or horiz will be by manual with a pin or catch.
It would be cool if the engines clicked into place, like a ball bearing catch.
The spinning core rides on the central cylinder like thorax that you can see in the pics.
I'll go into my plan on making that rotating lighted core later.
I invite creative and interesting comments, thanks,

Ron
