FINISHED (see pg 21) WIP - BTTF - Nike Air Mag

I think Plasti-dip would work well here. It is tough, durable and above all, flexible.

Shame it does not come in the light grey for MAG mid-soles as it would be perfect.

Well that is impressive. All I have seen here in Australia are pre-mixed pressure pack cans inn a limited range of bold colours.

Based on the link, you should be able to buy white, grey, green, blue and mix your own rubber colours to make the needed light grey and aqua.
From my experience with Plastic-dip (spray pack anyway) was that once applied, it makes a "skin" (not that different to what I do with the rubber I applied to my shoes) except being from a spray pack, is much more controlled coating that would actually preserve the texture on the mid-sole.

By mixing the pigments to make aqua (green + blue + white) you should be able to splatter the shoes with a rubber paint. Being rubber, it will bond to the grey rubber and give you a more permanent finish that is flexible and won't crack off like traditional paints do.

I may try this on my HC's. The old seafoam green first run they did.

Would be nice to correct them to gray. But I'll have to think about how to deal with the heel cup since it has a Poon decal kit glued to it.

Spray over the top of the decals. It will help bond them to the cup. Then hand paint them to bring them to their proper colours.

These look great. What is the cloth?
It is a large pattern spandex. got it from my local store but in really small amount.

very cool! Another colour combo that would be very sweet would be an invert, so where the RD is grey, make it white etc! Just lookin at those white ones there I reckon grey highlights would set it off!
I'll photoshop this somedays to see if this is cool ;)

Your plan reminds me.... have you ever seen the prototypes that were all white? Looked so clean.....

but they wouldnt stay that way long if you actually wore them lol
also, be careful using chemicals on the midsole - some hydrocarbons break down foams. For example, car fuel (gasoline) totally dissolves styrofoam packing foam into a sticky, highly combustible sludge. Test on small areas first, probably on the underneath side (the bottom of the sole, like you already did)
Not being sure what HC soles are actually made of, I advise caution.
Yes, I saw this picture a while ago, maybe that's where I got inspired to make some White Mags.
I ran my acetone test underneath the sole as I wasn't sure of what I was doing ;)

Maybe you could try Plasti dip. You can find videos of people using it for car and shoe color mods all over youtube. You don't have to remove the current color since it's not a paint, but a high durability coating. And you can peel it off if you get tired of it.
Thanks for this tip ! This looks great but two bad they don't make it grey and it doesn't seems to be mixed up.
And it is really expensive :(

Tottally agree.

I linked to a kit that lets you mix your own color of Plasti dip. Post #202.

I've seen it as low as $20-$25 bucks.

@cavx : i know you'd like to get a sock toe mag, so i made it just for you :

:D

And you have no idea how tempted I have been to fuse a set of clear soles to a pair of grey socks for walking around the house in.

We have this trampoline place close where they sell you "socks with soles" for $2.00 a pair. The soles are a rubber embedded into the cloth and are there to give a little grip on the big tramps without kids having to wear shoes.

That's exactly what inspired me ^^

:lol

Okay, now that's out of the way. I have a pair of size 9 gray-sole HC's that I can't wear. I'm getting very close to being inspired enough to remove the upper and mess around with it.
What ? You have a pair of 9 and you didn't shipped them to my door ? (seriously, depending of the price...)

Dude, these are amazing! Please say you'll think about offering to make these for sale some time? Would really love to get my hands on some.
