FINISHED - Hasbro Hero X Wing Conversion 30" 1:18 Scale

Re: X Wing - Big Hasbro - Open Wings

The only way to truly learn how to do something is to do it, and learn from your mistakes. Looks like to me you have a pretty good idea what you are doing. Keep it up!

Re: X Wing - Big Hasbro - Open Wings

Dam it I ran out of silicon.....:facepalm

I knew it was a mistake to cast square, I looked around for something 'round' a tube of something, but nothing was suitable.

Anyway....not much of an update, I wanted to mold and cast 12 engines because I got the resin for it........frustrating.

Never fear, the RTV will stick to the original pour when you resume .. as long as using same formula and haven't gotten any mold release contamination on the original pour.

Thanks for that, I have researched that as I was worried it would not stick to the old pour, I finally got more silcon so I'll finish up and cast some engines hopefully today.

Re: X Wing - Big Hasbro - With Open Wings & Mods

Cast another engine and played around with the internal blank engine that came with the whole bird, added some bits, not accurate I suppose, but look okay to me, so I'm going to cast them and see what they look like.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

I've added a Unlimited Run in the Project Runs section for anyone who wants a complete set of resin cast rear engines.

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=261755

I've built and molded the internal wing engines and will offer them for sale soon once I'm happy with them.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

not much of an update, boiling water gets the decals off and thinner washes the glue off, took two cannon bodies and made one complete, for casting, then added the ally tube, the photo makes it look bigger than the plastic one, but its the same diameter, next I'll add the fins and wrap the half of that.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Looks good to me. Im facing a 7 week paid lay off from work and looking to tackle the big Xwing.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Made the holes for the small drill rod into the wooden internal block and test fit the wings, test fitted a cannon and rear engine, nothing is permanent, just wanted to see what it looked like. Still lots to do, one of the wing internals needs it's walls moved and other stuff. I think I dug myself a hole with the cannon, because I think it may be difficult to cast the way I've built it.:facepalm

I could have been more thorough and detailed by throwing out the entire wings and scratch building a lot more than I did, but I think once finished, painted and weathered it will be good enough for me. The thing I always liked about this was the size, it's pretty big;)

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

If you are casting the wings, lasers seperate....you are gonna be a millionare bwahahahaha.. Seriously, look at smaller kits and cast in the same spirit. It will work out.

I chatted with the guy who made the Harrier for 'True Lies'. They took a model kit to the bone yard and made molds along the same lines as the model kit. Granted, it had a metal substructure, but it went together like the little $20 off the shelf kit. Fun Fact......their molds pulled off paint chips and rivet details. It was an exact replica to the naked eye.

BTW, nice lawn. I have gophers. Hank Hill would be proud.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Thanks for the comments. I've learned so much doing this, but I'm kind of over it;)

Just want to get it finished. I know that paint and weathering will make a massive difference.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Hey Yaris... Good to see you back at it !

I'm coming along on mine, trying to finish up the cockpit now.

Don't give up ! A sweet paint job will do wonders for this bird.
