Fight Club Tyler Durden T-shirts?

A few notes:
The mayhem jacket is pretty dirty looking.
The newspaper pants fabric are so worn down they actually look kind of fuzzy.
The main red jacket was really crackly.
The track pants were really worn down too. The reflective ribbon was all cracked.

Thats Greeaat :D I started LoLing when the two old ladies started hittin on you
Excellent video!

Ok, so I also had an interesting weekend. On Saturday morning a member of the Film Jackets community called X-Mart who is the owner of one of the Fight Club jackets made for the film contacted me to say he was in London and he had the jacket with him and would I like to meet him. Obviously, I went to meet him, We met in a dingy bar in Earls Court, had a beer, watched the football and talked jackets for 2 hours. I can confirm that he is such a sweet nice guy and not the greedy person that some people thought he was because he wouldn't share information, He would share the info because at the time it was potentially a completely unique piece of clothing, as JAL hadn't yet been identified as the maker. Even he didn't know that. Now for some more exciting news. The change in the colour of the jacket, the little inconsistencies that we have been plagued by for years makes me realise after seeing this that it is very possibly screen used. It has paint flaking off it and other areas which have been touched up where you can see the brush marks. I recommended that he take it to JAL at some point to see if it can jog any memories. The leather itself is a lot thinner than the leather that JAL is making the jackets in. As in, mine, Steve's, probably AJ's first jacket as well. The colour is very, very close but not quite that. The jacket has shoulder pads, it very well distressed but isn't totally stiff. It was possible that this jacket was used for a couple of scenes. For the most part I had to use rubber gloves but he did let me touch it, it is quite soft and a fully wearable jacket and it was amazing. Also, the lining is identical to my first JAL lining. OK, pic heavy, i'll try and describe what you're seeing to make it easier.

Firstly inside, bad low light, but the colour is perfect, as its meant to be

Outside, Natural Light. It was a bit rainy so we had to be quick, so apologies for some of the quick snaps

This is my friend Rob wearing my Larger Browner JAL and me wearing my normal jacket holding the original.

I'm thinking, they might have started the filming with this jacket, but perhaps it wasn't red enough, started painting it, and then moved on to other jackets. There was one very obvious piece of distressing on he shoulder that is very visible in the scene where Tyler and the Narrator get on the bus. But they are exact. I'll try and find the picture if I can. Again, many thanks to x-mart, he is the sweetest, accommodating generous person and I felt very honoured that he picked me to share this with. Hope you like the pictures.

Amazing! Wow! Im only 30 mins from London, would have killed to have had a beer with you guys.
The collars definatly come down the chest a good way and I still think they dip downwards more than the jal. Just like in the movie!

Soul! The button! :)
Jonathan made this jacket as well. That's what's even cooler about it.

couldn't tell you that mate sorry, it could be that it was unintentional. If he does take it to Jonathan maybe he can remember. I seemed to know more about it than the owner. This is to me the dream Fight Club jacket. I prefer the collar shape, there are some little details that I didn't photograph stupidly. The weight is really nice, and the colour is absolutely perfect. It's incredible.

I'm not sure. It has paint on it and it is cracked over the shoulders and chest. There are other continuity points on it which match the other jackets from screen shots. If we're basing this solely on the pocket flaps, its probably not very good validation because we so rarely see the pocket flaps in the film anyway. The only evidence is really the shot of him standing off stage in costume. If it was only a prototype, why does it match the others and why all the distressing?

Sweet smirking. Great accomplishment finally getting a hold of xmart. Been years. That's my favorite jacket. I love how the stitching just pops out on that jacket. I love the crackly distressing. Beautiful job of making it look vintage. Hey, so that jacket always looked thinner but more stiff to me. Is it soft or stiff? It looks very stiff and crackly dry to me. Love that color. I think that is the most wearable red you can wear.

The collar is also different on that jacket. The screen jacket on display has a bigger collar. Smirk. I would've loved to see a pick of your jacket and that jacket taken side by side. Also, last question, how was the size in your opinion? Was it small? Really small? Regular? Average?

its a little stiff, but soft. It's totally wearable. He keeps it in his warehouse with A LOT of other Fight Club props and costumes and some of it is amazing. I told him, if that was mine, i would wear the F@&k out of it. It looks so old. He came on his own as well. I could of very easily hit him on the head with the Ketchup bottle and done a runner! But i'm too nice.

I'd kill to know of that jacket was made in the same leather as the screen used jacket on display and if all other jackets since then are in another leather. My point is, I'd love to know if that look and the look of the jacket on display in Arizona could ever be replicated 100%. Oh and smirk, thanks for sharing this with us and for sharing it in the best way. I knew you mentioned that you hadn't something to share but it wasn't in a manner that was driving me crazy with anticipation. Lol

Rupe, that is absolutely nuts. I'm floored.

This thread is incredibly thorough and epic at this point in time. It's incredible what a group of dedicated fans can accomplish.

I reckon this is probably the same leather as the jacket in Arizona that AJ has seen. If they were made at the same time, it stands to reason, but perhaps they painted the others more. Size wise, i would say it was a medium, it was pretty much the same size as the first JAL i got. it was a touch lighter than my jacket but only a slight difference. Jonathan has matched the weight very well. The buttons were identical to mine as well except the holes in the buttons were round and mine are square. Yeah we should have done a comparison picture, a lot of the people in the pub were giving us very strange looks. :lol

Oh you little tease! What kinda stuff has he got?

Fur coat, track pants, red pants, OP523s, and some other stuff, but my brain had turned to jelly by this point and I wasn't sure what he was saying. But as well as these things he has a lot of other stuff in his collection that was very impressive. Rob and I had our mouths hanging open for most of it.

Oh and one other thing I forgot to mention is that those of us that have JALs have leather on the underside of the pocket flaps, this has lining and under the collar it is felt, like a suit rather than another layer of the leather which I thought was interesting.

Hm, interesting that under the collar is felt. I find it particularly interesting because in Kaplan's drawing of Tyler which we saw in AJ's pics and Soul's vid, his collar is popped. It seemed to me like they originally were going to have him wear it popped but maybe decided against it later. I think it would have been too extreme and 80's anyway.

Very nice job but one thing bugs me anout that jacket. Jonathan stated that all the on screen used jackets had his name inside the jackets. In fact, he told me this when I saw him last Wed. That jacket doesn't look like it has his name in it? He even said he has a friend at Fox that confirmed they were still there not too long ago.

Are we sure JAL made this jacket ?
