Female Loki Build - WIP - Updated 4/29 - Pic Heavy!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Such beautiful work. It's made me want to start my suit of armour sculpt but not sure my wife is very happy about it as she knows how much it wall cost :p

Great work and look forward to seeing what you have in store for us next :)

Tom.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you so much for the comments! :]
And Drack you should definitely start your armour, it's just too much fun to let wait!
@outatime26 - I don't mind at all. I am very happy if posting my progression pics can help and inspire someone else with their own costume! I'd love to see how yours goes! If you would like to chat about any elements of it I would be more than happy to. Good luck!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

More progress! Yes I know this is streching on and on and taking forever :p

I went to PAX East this past weekend and in preparation for that I got to work some more on my Loki - which I wore Saturday afternoon. (As you will see I got really high heels which look great but I can't last for more than half a day in them).

So this time i got to work on making the boots (high heel wedges - what the female characters in Avengers all wear) that I bought from the store, into Loki style boots. I did this by adding the woven leather knee piece, as well as a boot wrapper over almost the entire lower leg. I think it was pretty successful! Here is the progression:

Pinning the leather strips to the boot to form the knee piece.

Pinning the strips to form the woven shape. In the film the low part where the ends meet is in the middle of his leg/knee, whereas for mine i thought it looked cooler to have the low part on the inside, and the high part on the outside. I like that design on its own but then it also matches the cut of the skirt.

Partially sewn and laid flat to sew the rest.

Woven strips sewn and piece pinned to outside of boot.

I then hand sewed the knee piece to the boot. I should have probably used velcro so I could switch the knee pieces to different, less painful boots when desired, but.. I wasn't thinking about that at the time :/

Boot wrap outside, elastic that meets in the front pinned.

Boot wrappers with elastics pinned. I just sewed the elastic on in the front, since the wrap is big enough to easily slide over the boot. The elastic on the bottom that would go in front of the heel on a normal boot I had to do a little differently. I put velcro on the side of the wedge at the bottom, and at the ends of the elastic so it would attach at the very bottom, giving the stirrup effect as if it were a normal heel. A little tricky getting the height right as the boots are loose and slide down a bit through walking.

Finished boots :]

They do look a little loose, but I think they match the fit of Loki's boots in the movie. I could have done them a bit tighter for the female version I suppose but I'm not a huge fan of the *skin tight everything* plus, it is way comfier and easier to move with them at a relaxed fit. So, I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

Only problem is now I have to make a whole other set for a different, flatter pair of boots to wear once my feet can't take any more of the heels :p

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Love the boots!! What size needle on your machine do you use to sew the leather? My "leather" needles leave huge holes when sewing.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you! :] I have a kit of different sized needles and out of that for medium leather I use the 14 (90) size. But I also have a set of all the same size that I got just for leatherworking - those are for thicker leather or more layers and are size 18 (110), so they may be more fitting. Both seem to work quite well :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

I love what you've done so far! Your armor is absolutely ridiculous. Wow. Can't wait to see more!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you! Got a few more things done - will have more pics up soon. Your costume looks amazing from your profile pic - do you have full pics of it up somewhere? Very interested to see! :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Everything about this is awesome! Your skills with sculpting and painting are amazing! The pics that you posted of the shoulder armour are so impressive - it actually looks like real, pitted and battle-worn metal, wow! Your corset is beautiful! It was definitely worth all the work. And I love the green shirt you're wearing it with - did you make that? You're insanely talented!

I also have to add that the helmet is one of the best I've seen. I'm in awe of your work!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you so very, very much! :D I am pretty proud of my armour - takes awhile to hand paint every piece but I think the effect it gives is worth it :] As to the shirt - that is a shirt my sister gave me which I cut up to make it more like how I wanted. It looks a bit plain to me, but was a ran-out-of-time kind of thing. The black sleeveless shirt I am wearing in some earlier pics is actually the style I prefer, but I didn't have time to remake that in green till recently. It came out really well, but now that my arms are bare it prompted me to make some kind of sleeves to go with it - so that is what I am working on today! Hopefully I can finish them soon and post some pics :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

I still think it looks good! But I loved the style of the black shirt. I hope to see pics soon!

Do you have a resource for the green fabric? Is it a jersey knit? I've been trying to find some to make a shirt for my Green Arrow costume but have had zero luck in stores here. I ordered some online but when it arrived it was a pastel teal and nowhere close to the swatch colour on the website! :(

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

The green fabric I just got from JoAnn Fabrics  It's a bit more olive-y than I would ideally like, but it was the closest I could get in the right stretchyness to make the shirt how I wanted. I have a terrible habit of never looking at the tag to see what kind of fabric I'm actually buying, I usually just grab it and yell "I NEED DIS" to the person at the cutting counter. Like, yesterday I found an awesome new kind of vinyl, but did I pay any attention to the tag so I could remember it later to suggest to other costumers? Of course not. Anyways, next time I go in (which will undoubtedly been soon) I'll look up the shirt fabric and let you know :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Don't worry about it - I'm in Canada, so it probably won't do me any good. I was hoping you might have found it online somewhere.

And yeah, I always forget to look at the tags too! I just get excited about the colour/pattern/shiny and when people ask me about it later I have no clue, lol.

Update - Upper Arm Leather Pieces

I wasn't happy with the green long sleeve shirt - so I ended up patterning the black twisty shirt I had and remaking it in green. I was very happy with how this came out, but then felt like my arms were too bare so I needed to think about making something like leather sleeves, interwoven with the green of his shirt, that Loki wears in the Avengers. I kind of dreaded weaving strips of leather again, and wanted this to only be a quick half day project. Of course that didn't happen. 3 days later and I'm finally almost done. The leather actually ended up being the easy part and turned out quite nice - but the stretchy green fabric made me RAAAAGE! Anyways - here are progress pics.

Pinning the leather

Pinned together to fit over the elbow and upper arm

Sewed - I put velcro on the sides because it seemed like it would be really handy, but I actually may just sew the edges together because I just put them on by sliding my arms through the tubes anyways :/

Pinning the evil green stretchy fabric and the cross piece. That piece to me looked pretty strange on the original costume - it had little gold beads or something on it which I didn't like. I haven't done any of the zipper stop edging on my costume so I wasn't going to start here. Instead I used my matching green thread and picked a fancy stitch that I though gave a similar look to the piece.

Finished one!

Now to pin and sew the 2nd one.. this is how i feel.

Finished pieces - with my helper

Arms held normally can't see the interwoven parts as much...

There they are!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Your sculpting is really pro but holy hell your painting is fantastic- love the armor pieces.

It's so great to have such talented female members here, especially ones that are good-looking also. Really great job capturing the Loki character.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Your arm pieces and shirt are awesome. I love the style of the shirt!

And aww, fluffy helper! :) My cats like to "help" too. I've had to start shutting them out of the sewing room because they want to lay on everything and attack anything that hangs over the edge of the table!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Very nice!!!!! I really wish i had a knack for seamstress'ing!!! My hands are too big and clumsy haha...

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you very much all!!

@Yrien my girl cat, the one in the pic, does that exact same thing! She is most happy laying on my fabric (especially if it's black so she can get grey fur all over it) or "helping" the thread as it goes through my sewing machine. She especially loves bobbin winding lol. I have my workshop in the basement and when I go down there to work on armour my boy cat follows me and HATES it when i have to lock him out of the shop. There's too much bad stuff for him to get into so I can't let him in, but he yowls for a good 10 minutes every time. So awful! lol

@Onephattsi2 Thanks! Have you ever heard the "bullets are attracted to metal" thing? Well lately I thought of that when I discovered needles are attracted to flesh, cause they seem to bypass all my fabric layers and go straight into my fingers every time D: So don't feel too bad lol

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Hahahaha, I have the same issues with soldering irons and hot glue guns!!!! No matter what I am doing, if I am using them, I am getting burnt, period. So I know exactly what you mean!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Wow! I love how your costume and props are shaping up! I was wondering though, do you have any pep files for this by chance? My girlfriend is working on a Loki costume for herself, and I'd love to get some files to help her out with it.
