Female Loki Build - WIP - Updated 4/29 - Pic Heavy!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Once again really beautiful work. Your sewing skills are top notch.
Can't wait to see it all together.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Could you tell me what brand of fiberglass resin you used/how you used it? And did you do silicone molds with plaster mother molds? I'm only really familiar with the process for smooth-cast resins/rotocasting type stuff, trying to learn about fiberglass. Thanks!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

@Onephattis2 Lol that sucks! My oldest scar on my thumb is from hot glue - glad I don't work with pep or my hands would be melted! D:

@ Paul Alfred Unfortunately I've never worked with pep so have no files to help you guys out. I just did my sculpts out of clay and then made molds and then casts in fiberglass resin. Most of the Loki armour I've seen around has been out of foam or something like Worbla so not sure where to point you for pep style stuff. Sorry!

@outatime26 Thankyou!!! Hopefully will be taking some full costume pics in the next few days :] (famous last words)

@SlaveLeia The fiberglass and resin I pick up from a local marine supply store - so its made for boats and stuff :p It's Polyester Resin with Wax. I mistakenly got the *without wax* version and it just didn't work as well. It's blue and comes with a catalyst that hardens it. The fiberglass i get in a mat also from the marine supply store. I rip it into small little chunks to use it. I make my molds out of silicone rubber - Mold Max Stroke from Reynolds Advanced Materials | Everything for Mold Making & Casting. For the mother mold I just do a layer of the fiberglass and resin over the silicone. To cast it is essentially a layer of resin, lay down a layer of the fiberglass mat (broken into small bits to make sure it fits into the little nooks and crannies) then coat that with a layer of resin to cover and dissolve the fiberglass. That will take 45ish mins to dry and harden. I usually end up doing 3-4 layers for my armour pieces, but I do the first layer mostly just resin and no real layer of fiberglass. I am by no means a pro at this, and often end up spending a lot of time after casting getting rid of bubbles in my pieces with bondo. My technique is getting better, but I am sure there are people with a lot more experience on here that can give you more tips on fiberglass and resin casting. Search around and I bet you can find some great stuff!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

If anyone is in need of a pep file this is the one I used for the Loki helmet seen in Thor. It works really well and isn't that difficult to put together, much easier than molding one if you have no experience with sculpting like me.

I don't think there's a pep file currently for the helmet seen in Avengers. I'm sure you could make this build and alter the horns and add details to the sides and top to make it resemble the Avengers helmet more.

Thank you! This is very helpful for a costume n00b such as me :) Your costume turned out amazing!

Finally got some pics taken of the costume in its current, more complete state! I still want to make the jacket, and maybe cape, but it's looking a lot more whole and satisfying right now. Yay! So, here is a bunch of pics because I'm bad at narrowing them down. Also I suck at posing, and my friend who is not a photographer took the pics in my backyard so... not perfect, but we enjoy them :p Hope you do too!

There are a few more pics up on my FB page (click on link in signature below) so feel free to check those out and like my page too :] Thanks for looking!

I love it! That last picture is epic, lol. I'm really liking the shirt - is this the new one that you made?

Thank you! Yeah I like the last one just wish there weren't so many branches in the background. And yep that's the new shirt I made :D

Spectacular! I also like the "epic" last one :)

Great choice with the decorative stitching on the gauntlet/sleeve guards.. it really ties the arms to the top.

I started watching this thread when you were mostly working on the soft parts. I totally forgot you sculpted and cast the armor completely from scratch too! The entire look has come together so well. That shoulder piece is a thing of beauty.. love it.

Thank you very much! :D I did end up being glad i did the upper arm pieces, the top looked bare and too separate without them! Thanks about the armour also, my shoulder piece is definitely "my precious" out of all the costume elements :p

Thanks verrrrrry much! :] As to the last pic yes I agree need to see the staff better. I think I'm going to redo the paint job on it and take more pics next month :D

Really awesome! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff! I'm gonna be making a Loki myself here shortly, so yours is a great inspiration. :)

Hooray! Gosh I'd forgotten how long it's been since I've updated! I now have a few more pieces since those last photos were taken! I went on a very cold photoshoot the other day - once the photographer sends me those pics I will upload some here :D Also I can see if i have more inprogress pics that I didn't include.
Also, I am starting work on a complete, screen accurate costume for a friend of mine. This is a male version so I'm trying to get it as accurate as I can. Maybe I'll start a new thread for that, since it'll be a fair bit different than this costume. But that one I'll be taking plenty of in progress pics :D

By all means, update this thread with more pics, and start a new one for the screen accurate version! Eventually, I'll have a thread of my own for my Loki build, but I just love seeing everyone's progress. :)

Really impressed with your work here, in fact, did I see some of it on Etsy?
I am trying to get my helmet finished, I have less than a month until the part I started it for, so am stressing a bit now!
Need a more friendly way of hardening off a pep build, my first resin attempt was awful haha

Looking forward to seeing you screen accurate build!
P.
