Female Loki Build - WIP - Updated 4/29 - Pic Heavy!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

After a long time, I'm finally able to get back to forward progress on this costume! Past two months have been crazy - working at a ren faire on weekends, normal job during the week, and doing casting of my bracers and necklace in other time. Now finally I'm making new pieces!

I sculpted the belt armour yesterday in two versions. I had a mini freak out upon starting the belt sculpt thought process in which i realized that a belt worn diagonally across the chest fits a man much differently than a woman. And since I'm doing femme loki i'm keeping the womanly figure, so i had to modify the belt armour. I ended up making a curved one to fit over my chest for my own costume, and then also a flat one like in Avengers for people who may want to have one for their regular male Loki costumes.

Now I'm onto the shoulder piece. I'm doing a mockup in cardboard first - I'm midway through drawing out the design on it. I was lucky enough to find a photo that clearly shows the extremely intricate design that exists on his spaulder so I'm not doing a bunch of squiggles and guess work. Unfortunately, I'm a perfectionist, and this sculpt design is crazy complicated so it's probably going to take me FOREVER.

That being said, hopefully I'll be able to post pics of my progress on this later tonight :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Phew! Shoulder piece is done! Took quite a bit longer than expected, but I think it turned out pretty well. I'm really eager to get it molded and then cast my first one so I can paint it and see how it really looks when done! Only problem is I don't think the amount of silicone I have is enough so I'm going to have to order more of that tomorrow and wait :[ In the mean time I might sculpt another Loki necklace - this time a screen accurate version. Should be pretty easy after the shoulder piece :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

wow! from a drawing to 3D sculpting....amazing work wish i could sculpt like that:thumbsup

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thanks so much! I only started sculpting this summer for this Loki project  I'm learning that I enjoy bigger pieces where I can use my fingers more than fine work like on the shoulder where I had to use tools for all of it. Still fun though :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

you just barely started learning sculpting? wow! looks like ya got years experience cant wait to see more:D

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Fabulous. And traditionally our Norse trickster is a shapechanger who took on multiple female forms, so I love it.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you, thank you! I'm really excited to get to move along with this project :] Think i'm going to sculpt a more film accurate necklace today!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Great work! I love seeing the different adaptions to the Loki costume and I love your sculpting!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you! :]

Over the weekend I made molds of all the pieces and cast a first round in fiberglass resin. I rushed and was able to sand them down and put my base coat of paint on yesterday. The nozzle on my paint can broke half way through and I flipped out but managed to make the nozzle from a diff can work enough to finish painting.

This morning I hand painted the hammered gold onto the shoulder piece. It looks really nice, and i'm really excited to get the bright gold painted on top of that. Hopefully I will have time to do that this evening! Then pics! :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress (Updated 11/30)

Yay! Finally finished my three new armour pieces and am getting pics up! They all look pretty nice with my carefully painted "battle-worn" look, but I'm really excited about the shoulder. I definitely took the most time with that and I think it paid off. I want to wear it all the time! lol

So, here are brief progression pics and then final pics of the Loki shoulder armour.

First layer - spray painted hammered dark bronze.

2nd layer - hand painted in hammered gold.

3rd and final layer - hand painted highlights in bright gold.

Next is the belt piece - the one pictured is the curved one to go across a femme Loki chest. However I did make a flat one as well, just didn't use it for that set of photos.

Last is another Loki necklace. The first one I made this summer was curved to fit a femme Loki, and was painted in the more kingly, bright gold style. This one is painted in the battle-worn style to match the rest of the armour, and is flat and as close to film accurate as i could make it!

Will have more pics of the armour as an ensemble up soon! :]

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

VERY Impressive!!! You look awesome as Loki...and your latest pics of your armor are amazing!! I cant wait to see more.... you look fantastic!! GREAT WORK!!!!!!!

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Son-of-a-WOW! Great work.

I love Rule 63 costumes, and this one kicks a**. It's funny, in its way, because in the comics, Loki actually came back female for a while, with a very similar effect. If you really wanted to get that look going, though, you would want to get rid of your eyebrows. Like creepy Wormtongue in The Two Towers...

Good thread, too. Inspiring.

Re: Female Loki Build - In Progress

Thank you so much for the kind comments! :] In response to heiro5 - while i was toying with the idea of doing the comic female Loki for awhile, i decided I really like his getup from Avengers the best. Though I do love me some scale maille! Also, being a redhead I've got those light eyebrows so i *could* do that look, but i really detest them so i compulsively pencil them in lol. Not sure if I'll be wearing a wig with this costume or just be a redheaded femme Loki :p
