Alright, I started playing the game yesterday. At this point in time, I haven't played enough to be able to give my take or review of this game. I will, when the time is right. But for now, a couple thoughts and my first impressions:
The concept of this game doesn't seem so far fetched. Sure, the world is lonely, but for some reason, given the post apocalyptic nature, this feels appropriate enough. After all, we the vault dwellers are the ones who are supposed to rebuild America, right?
The actual gameplay was not bad. How things are set up seems kinda cool, with the weapon degradation and food rotting and such. I like it. It feels "survival-ly". So in terms of gameplay, not too disappointed at the moment. V.A.T.S. being an aimbot did not bother me that much either, to be honest.
So, so far at least, I could say that this seems a bit fun. Not fun like I'm playing Fallout 5, but fun like I have when playing Fallout Shelter (and I like Fallout Shelter a lot!) It is so far a fun game.
However...…….
The graphics. The visuals. Basically, all of what I'm seeing, looks freakin'
TERRIBLE. I mean it is
bad. This game has a serious problem with shadows. I was standing in the street, and I'm literally surrounded by tree limb shadows. It would be like if the sun was coming in at five different directions. And for some reason, everything at a distance is blurry most of the time.
And the shadows themselves, geez don't get me started. Pixelated all to hell and back. See for yourself:
Not too impressed with the visual experience here so far. I know they have a lot of work to do fixing it, and that people say it'll get fixed. My response to that is they better get to fixin' the dang thing then. And get it done
yesterday!
Next, the online aspect. So, in the time that I played, I ran into two people. One was literally outside of the vault when I left, dressed in Nuka Cola Power Armor. He seemed to be more interested in the view than anything else, and didn't seem to care one bit that I was there. Another guy I ran into was in some junk town, and he seemed to purposely want to make distance between us as I followed him a short bit. Again, pretty much no different as if they weren't even there in the first place. So far, no griefing or any of that stuff.
So, if I had one complaint or thing that I'd ask Bethesda, it would be to make the game
look better, especially before worrying about adding content. And if you're gonna make us pay for cool looking Power Armor paintjobs, it would be wise to make a much bigger selection than the few options they have so far.
