Oh no! Out of curiosity is it the base of the nacelle that’s come loose/plastic piece flexing over time, or is it the base of the pylon beginning to angle backwards?
It's the joint between the top of the pylon and the nacelles that's causing the problem. The joint between the pylon and the hull is still rock solid.

This is Tomy’s response about the supports on their FB page for those interested.

“Thank you for all for your feedback. We wanted to address the comments and concerns related to the supports and the materials used. As we’ve been working through finalizing the details of the replica, we have confirmed that the supports will be matte black, as we shared in the update. This color was chosen because it will be less distracting when displayed, as well as it matches the matte black color of the base. Unfortunately, the supports cannot be acrylic, because acrylic bends under the weight of the ship. We appreciate your support and are excited to bring you the replica later this year!”

Gotcha. I’m wondering if that joint is plastic or if it was somewhat loose on some of the units. I remember a poster here who had a loose joint with some play in it, and he was advised to exchange within the warranty period. Hopefully someone will eventually come up with a solution to tighten it up

Looks like crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beyond disappointed.

I will try to make a wall display with hidden support against the wall, otherwise I will sell it. I will never display it with those stupid supports.

Good God just make the darn thing in plastic.

This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what "selected fans" means regarding being given the opportunity to own it? Maybe I'll keep my US order open until they make this a bit clearer for UK customers to know what to do. I'd hate to cancel my US order and then also miss out on the UK order due to not being "selected". Tomy did reply to my email stating that US customers will receive their Enterprise's before UK customers, but they didn't give any idea on how much longer we'd need to wait in the UK.
I have had the same response that UK buyers will receive their ships after the US but again no indication of how much longer. TOMY US asked me if I wanted to cancel my order in favour of the UK pre-order but I am leaving things as they are until further information on the UK release is made available.

Also on the supports, I would also prefer the metal skeleton with plastic outer hull route for the saucer to keep the weight down if this would remove the necessity for those metal rods. I know it being die-cast is supposed to be a big selling point but it's the quality of the fit and finish which is more important than the materials used surely.

James we all knew this was a possibility. They told us before we even ordered that it may be necessary. They even have it on the mockup. So this time it's not like they broke a promise like last time. I hope they do the TOS Klingon Cruiser maybe Romulan War bird and after that call it a day. Because I will say that any larger or larger ship like the Enterprise is going to have these issues in diecast.

Very true. I had hope, and hope my friend is a dangerous thing.:(:(:(

The D will probably be a foregone conclusion due to popularity (I’d prefer a reliant or Klingon cruiser), but the D would most definitely need saucer support rods/stand due to the humongous saucer

Maybe we should start some kind of buyers' campaign to get them to not use die cast in the saucer of future models (or anywhere it will compromise the model's structure). It's definitely too late this time, but having additional supports completely undermines the look of these things, and while something like Reliant wouldn't need it, the D will need really beefy supports because its saucer is enormous.

RE the supports, what does "they will be needed on the replica due to the weight of the diecast metal" actually mean? Does it mean the model will topple over without them? Will it put too much strain on the hull section where it connects to the base? Or will the dorsal section actually sag with the weight of the saucer?

Since the supports can be removed, that means we can take them off and replace them with glass rods cut to the correct length and same diameter. That's what I will do with mine.

Like with TOS E, I imagine it’s for the stability of the model. They’re “recommended” for TOS to keep the model from tipping over, not because the dorsal is too weak. The refit is probably the same and I’ll try displaying it without the supports (at first).

This may just be perspective, but it looks like the saucer’s edge is too vertical. Here it is compared to a MARK M3 model.

That’s what I thought at first too, but looking at the studio model, it seems relatively vertical with gentle slope. It’s hard to tell but maybe the polar lights kit is too raked? Also the front of the bridge module has some interesting windows. Wondering if they’re trying to accommodate top registry lighting

I'm pretty sure they've already confirmed that there won't be any self-lighting of the hull, apart from the spots in the base?

RE the supports, I don't recall Tomy ever officially saying it was purely to prevent the TOS model from tipping over. I was under the strong impression they just said a vague reason of stability while heavily implying that sagging weight was the problem. I know they said unofficially it shouldn't be a problem but that officially they recommend the support.

I think I'ma gonna stick with smaller Starfleet Star Trek diecast ships after this one.
