Dredd movie (2012) costume parts identification

I know this is a dumb question but I'm dumb if I don't ask; what is the term "hero suit" referring too? Is it the suit that's detailed for close shots or something like that??

yeah all the stuff the main actor wears not stunt or background.

Well in that case, what color is that red in the helmet? In some pics it looks bright, deep red and in production shots that aren't touched up it looks burgundy

halfords Volkswagen Tornado Red is good, or something on the oranger side of red,but not crazy orange. as you might not have that brand. satin black. and break down with acrylic black paint. for the badge, cold cast brass . g4 polish, then zebo ( black grate polish ). that should be it.

its a good colour. its not the exact one used. thats not made any more (lol:s )
but it does the job.

i think you could be right about the boots Rikarus defo motocross but its the sidi COURIER boots i think been use well same buckels maybe hole boot coverd

The company in the UK that made the boots for the movie said they were made from scratch, but that the production company provided them with the buckles they wanted used.

Are they the buckles from the Courier boots or the Adventure Rain boots? The rain looks to have the right buckle and strap detail where it slides into the boot. Or is it a mix of the same buckle but with a different strap?

Bumping this back up to talk about badges, as I just found and ordered 2 of the Comic Con badges on eBay. The first one arrived yesterday and I was checking it out, thinking it seems small to me, but it's hard for me to accurately judge the size of the screen-used piece. I'm hoping that with the Prop Store auction, maybe I'll get lucky and they'll auction a screen-used badge by itself and maybe I'll be able to afford it. So far, the only way to get one is to bid on a complete armor vest or a complete Judge's uniform. :unsure

I was getting ready to post my own images of the badges, but I see you've all already done that...

There appears to possibly be at least 2 different molds that were used for Dredd's badge, further complicating matters. On the rear cover of the DVD/Blu-Ray, you can clearly see a badge that does NOT have the "simulated nicks" in the "shield" below Dredd's name. So either there were 2 different molds used, or some images of Dredd have been Photoshopped/airbrushed to make the badge look "perfect".
anyone know how accurate the badges from comiccon are? Some up on ebay.

Looks like they are missing the outer rim detail, but all in all pretty close. Looks like they come in right around 3 inches. What do you guess the costume badge is at?

Missing the outer rim detail, and some other details are ever so slightly off. I'm going to refer to the different parts of the badge as follows: The Eagle, the Shield, the Name, the Tail Feathers, and the Chevron (that's the chevron-shaped "bar" just above the Tail Feathers.)

What I'm noticing immediately is that the Chevron on the Comic Con Badges is raised, and is the same height/thickness as the rest of the Shield. On the Hero Prop, you can clearly see that the Chevron is RECESSED, and that part of the badge is therefore THINNER than the Shield section. That's the most noticeable inaccuracy at first glance.

After studying the 2 badges for awhile longer, I also noticed that on the metal Comic Con Badge, the Tail Feathers are all beveled, molded with a diagonal or "wedge" shape, tilted in towards the center. This adds a little extra dimensionality to the badge, and looks very nice. But on the Hero Prop, you can see that the Tail Feathers are all FLAT, like the Shield in the center of the badge. Also, the recessed Chevron appears to be a consistent width/height (whichever term you want to use), just like the chevrons used in military rank insignia, while on the Comic Con badge, it tapers slightly towards the ends.

These differences, combined with the size difference, confirm what I was already suspecting... these were NOT molded from an actual screen-used badge. The filmmakers may have provided the company that made them with some of their original digital design files, but then the company that made the badges made small changes to the design. Either that, or they were working from a design that was later changed on the final prop.

Since I now own one of the Comic Con badges, I can also tell you that it's made out of pressed or stamped metal, as the design is embossed/molded into both sides of the badge. When I can find the time to do so, I'll snap a picture of the reverse side of the Comic Con Badge.
it's been estimated at 97.5mm wide by 130mm high
I measured the Comic Con Badge last night, and I got 75 mm/3 inches high, by 54 mm/2.126 inches wide. I don't know if the screen-used badge is as large as 13 cm/5.1181 inches tall, but it definitely looks bigger to my eyes. Even if we find out that the screen-used badge was, say, 4 inches tall, I wouldn't be surprised. It's just that the armor vest they used makes it so much harder for me to accurately judge the size. In some pictures it looks huge, but in others, it looks about as small as a standard police badge... in other words, as small as the Comic Con replica.

So, which one of you guys is rich enough to bid on and WIN the set of Dredd's armor that's going up for auction at the end of the month so we can find out for sure? ;)

The Dragon*Con 2013 Dredd costume group on facebook is working on putting together a less expensive and even more accurate version of the leathers with armored vest included (that's the goal anyway). You can do a search on fb to find them.
They need a minimum number of suit orders to make it work financially, but they are getting very close.

Does any one know what color green is used on the gas grenades, and ammo pouches?

Have you noticed that in parts of the movie and the propstore auction the mag holders looks flat black? I guess it depends on the lighting. I think you could get away with either color.
