Limited Run DL44 ANH Version Blaster Kit

Testors black gloss paint. After the paint dried I lightly rubbed the parts with steel wool.

Can someone tell me why my scope mount gets reddish brown when I try to blue it?
Is it the quality of the steel or just me?
I apply the chemical, wait like a minute or so and then rinse in cold water. And again, and again, and again....
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Are you talking about oxidization?

I'm not saying painting is better, but if what indeed is happening to your scope is oxidization then I would suggest going over it with soft steel wool or a clothe and keep repeating the process to see if that helps. I know this happened to my flash hyder and I used this process of repeated application of Birchwood and steal wool and it gave me the desired effect I wanted.

The scope turned out great, but the scope mount is harder. I have tried the steel wool but with no luck. Maybe it's the Swedish weather..:lol

Yea, it took about 50-60 applications before mine turned black. I heated it between applications also. It took a long while, but it will get there.

Try this: Jax PBP Pewter Patina, Black, 16 oz. Available on Amazon, etc. Rinse and repeat as required followed by 0000 steel wool. Worked like a charm on all my pewter parts.

I second the Jax pewter black, you can get two ounce bottles from etsy or 16 ounce from amazon. Works great, also works on brass, copper etc

The mounts for the SNH are a little bit higher temp than the pewter I used for the TFA kits.
these are a little softer and like most guys found out it takes quite a few applications,
just be careful with the heat!

So, with my BC Super Blue not working on the flash hider, due to a different metal - what's the next best way to give it that "used" look?

If you didn't get the steel kit, the flash hider won't take Super Blue; it needs Aluminium Black if you got the alu/pewter kit.

Probably the same way you applied the SB, I would guess. That's what I did with mine.
