Deagostini Falcon. Anyone seen this?

I'm curious to know what the USD to AUD conversion will end up, as currently I'm paying just a little under $20 an issue from the UK.

I'm also up to date with the current UK dispatch (Issue 17), and have been informed Issues 18-21 are on their way to the address I'm using in the UK.

I just did a conversion on this and it would run you right at 18.50 AUD per issue if you were to sub from the US, Then however much shipping from here to there would be, so I'd imagine about the same in the long run.

Actually probably more from the US to Oz, as current shipping from the US to Australia is absolutely bloody atrocious.

I should point out that what I pay is final, as I have a shipping agreement with the person who sends me my issues. It's worked out quite well so far.

I do believe that the Falcon when it arrives here will be $20 an issue. Partworks down under have been slowly creeping up in price, given for the longest time they stayed at a friendly $15 an issue, but some of the more recent ones have seen price increases.

Your all correct but what I meant was the US price I pay will be the same ($59.99 per month) but obviously the exchange rates change hence my price will fluxuate accordingly. I'm not to sure on the shipping but keep in mind they send one package a month for the US release not one package a week like in the UK (so Im assuming one month is 4 packs). If it's to expensive per pack I have an option with the warehouse I deal with to keep items there and send mutiples at once to help reduce cost, so I will play it by ear.

Either way I have missed out on to many cool Star Wars collectibles in the past and I just didn't want to take the chance incase they don't end up releasing it in Australia. It's killing me watching all you guys put yours together, can't wait to get my first shipment so I can get started :)

I'm exactly the same. I paid attention to this release when the test release went live in the UK last year, and despite it's accuracy issues I tried every possible way to get my hands on the trial. I didn't succeed but I did successfully get someone to help me with the main release when it came out.

The next delivery this week will put me up to a quarter of the way through the build, and I'm very happy. I'm not going to start major work until I've received most of the lower hull parts (which will be the next 10 issues or so), but it hasn't stopped me from putting together what I have.

Note I will not be enhancing or painting the internal components, as I have no desire to show or use them when I finish mine. So they're just assembled as is.

Super jealous jinnai I can't wait till they send out my first shipment. They took payment out already but haven't emailed me that it has left the factory yet :(

I have never been to a modeling competition...would it be a problem to enter one built to instructions? What do they judge on?

They judge on kinda everything except (usually and theoretically--as judges are human) on accuracy. For me, the thought on accuracy is that among the judges, you can't have experts on every subject. You might notice something inaccurate on one subject that you know a lot about and ding that model, then give another model with a bigger issue a pass because you don't know about it. Or the "inaccuracy" may actually be correct because the modeler knows something you don't. (Some people get their gears all in a twitch when they see a model with all kinds of access panels open, the jet looking like it's halfway through an overhaul, but also has a full load of weapons, for instance.) Otherwise, it's mainly about how well it's built and how well it's painted. Modifications and added details are a plus. And it's not unusual to find disagreement and even shock when winners are announced. I've won some regional shows, but I generally just bring my stuff to show it off. I'm hypercritical of my own stuff so I don't expect to win and it's a neat surprise when it happens.

Just last week I managed to acquire the blueprint (for which I'm forever grateful to the guy for) and even though I have the Hasbro 31in BMF I was STILL surprised with the size that this will end up being.

Would somebody be willing to paint my quad laser assembly? I don't own a airbrush, and my painting skills SUCK!! :facepalm

Thanks in advance for the help..

Can someone explain how to remove the window frame in the upper center piece (the gun turret)? Someone on Britmodeler said it was easy but was vague about the details. I want to fix this minor issue with my kit. I've tried simply scraping with an X-acto knife, but not working.
Thanks,
Mike Todd

If I remember correctly... someone said the best way was push it out from the underside by softly pushing on the OUTER circle of the frame. There is some glue holding it in place. Using an X-acto knift to scrape it sounds like a horrible idea..stop doing that.....perhaps a toothpick would be better. ...and I would not try pushing on anything in the center. :)

Let me know if it works or breaks! :) I have yet to do this.... It's funny those windows are the same way on the blueprints. It's almost like they are telling us...no..this is the way you should have it :)

Sadly I have not been having the time to do much to mine yet.

You should wait....it looks like a ton more stuff needs painting.... Looks like the hull is going to be barely painted at all from them. You may want to have someone paint the entire thing for ya...

Whatever you do, don't just push on the frame! You run the risk of breaking the frame that way.

I would recommend the xacto knife method, it works. It worked for me and pretty much everyone else who has done it. Run it around the inside between the frame and the housing. You will probably not be able to get anything out of using a toothpick!

There is a locating tab on the underside of the window frame that you will have to carve off anyway so you can re locate the frame in the correct orientation.

Here are a couple of pictures of the first detail bay for the front underside of the Falcon you can look forward to. Looks pretty good to me, but I am no expert on the 32" model. This also requires painting which I will do later on in the build.

As you can see, the plating is pretty patchy with regards to the colour, so you will have to either weather the whole thing close to the darkest shades you have or, like I will do, repaint the whole thing.

Stick it in the freezer first for 10-20 minutes to help break up the glue

I went at it from the under side with an exacto. You should be able to see a couple of areas where it is attached. I just gently wedged my exacto in there and it popped out.

I keep seeing blogs, videos, and threads of guys painting this as they go and can't figure it out. I don't see how you can make it look good unless you paint the whole thing together in the end. Seems that you would need to do this to get the best cohesion of color in the end. IMO.

Please note that, in the US At least, we get packages every 4 weeks not once a month.

We get the email notice of payment processing around 2 weeks after we receive the previous shipment. It then take 4-5 days from the notice of payment processing to the notice of shipment and then another 4-7 days before the shipment arrives.

So we should expect issues 17-20 to be received around the 4th of July and, next March, at the 1 year point, to be receiving package 13 not 12.

I agree. I think some people are getting a little ahead of themselves with the painting. Go ahead and build it but best to wait until it's complete to paint. Plus, I'm gonna make sure those panel seam lines won't be visible, they might need filling in, which will suck because there'll be so many. I can see them already in the pics above.

Perhaps mine wasn't glued in good..a toothpick poke on the side of the frame here and there made mine fall right out...Oh well :)

This model seems to have gone from kinda pre-painted to screw the paint..here are just the parts from them :)
