Deadmau5 Head

I'm just using a white acrylic globe. Since this will be the first mau5head I make I won't do anything too fancy, just put an amber LED behind it or some EL wire with foil behind it.

Funny thing is I got a response email today from superiorlighting, it made me laugh a bit: Thanks for stealing my globes, guys! lol.

On the plus side I'm just about done cutting. Giving my wrist a break before I start on the mouth. Little worried, don't want any cracking and I'm being ballsy by not reinforcing the corners...

Reinforce the corners before its too late. Why did you need a clear globe?

I used some stick-up lights from superbrightleds.com. They have RBG audio trigger lights that are cheap and can be used inside the eyes. The ones I am using for this one are the motion sensor lights with 15 LEDs in them. They can be left on continuously.

The audio-trigger sounds B.A. Though I'm not sure if I'm gonna get all fancy schmancy yet. Right now I just need them to glow orange and tuck a fan inside.

My styrene patches are cut, though my clamps can't reach them so I have to do one at a time right now. Even though I sanded the point of contacts, it's not quite staying as flush as I'd like.

Enjoy, and thanks to all members that have posted , It really gave me more motivation to finish this project, Now one week till I get to party it up.

It looks great! Did you use the part you cut out for the mouth as the visor? One other question for you, did you make the ears detachable? If not I an give you a tip on how to for the next time.

Yes I just drilled a lot of holes in it so i could talk and not be so hot inside.

As for the ears, yes they are detachable:
Here is a pic during the fabric covering. Two rods in each and wing nuts.

Just finished up my first head. All in all I am pleased for my first time but deff know the areas I can improve on for next time. I screwed up the fabric and got frustrated so it does not look the best but I minimized the damage. The mouth lights up with neon blue EL wire and the eyes are disassembled push lights with red, green, blue LED lamps in the back. I hope to have a video up over the next day or so. Thanks to all who helped me in my journey!

Scooter5, great looking head! How did you go about laying the fabric? from the photos I only see one seam across the back, just below the ears.

So my trial and error is turning into more error than anything else. I think I am going to have to rethink my design and work my ass off for the next week to get this thing done in time for the SD show. If not we're going to have to break out the disco ball head for another show...and I definitely wasn't planning on that.

My problem is I am trying to get the material fitted around the head with only one seam. The problem is, I have no idea how deadmau5 or whoever made his head did that. It is very frustrating and I'm starting to get pissed off at the fabric. I've wasted too much fabric already trying to get it fitted around the head....

venturimyth: the foam is a construction material sold are a lowes/homedepot. its like 7$ for a sheet the size of plywood. As for covering its always the hardest part. Ive never been able to perfect a single seam cover. ive tried and come close but I always do 2 or 3 seams depending on fabric. First one @ the ear line. so the front of the face is seamless.

The quote should be I'm Famou5" :) I'm sure you an just buy some plain t-shirts and get some iron-on letters to put on whatever you want.

I hope you don't mind thinking of getting this shirt made for me , friend works at a Tee- shirt shop, Black Shirt, Yellow Letters, and going to wear a thermal type long sleeve shirt that will match the blue head.

Thanks, I figured as much. I'm not going to be covering it with fabric though. I am going to spray paint it and hope it works the way I want to. Yes, I know that regular spray paint will eat the foam, but I found one that won't. It's Krylon's H2O Latex spray paint. It is water based and won't eat foam. So hopefully that will work the way I want it to. Foam ears will be a lot lighter than plexiglass ones.

I don't mind. I didn't think it up. It was from a tour or show that he did with David Guetta and there were shirts that said F$%K Me, I'm Famau5! I actually spelled it wrong the first time with an O instead of an A.

Question for you Scooter, where did you get the pink foam you used for the ears at? Also, was it easy to shape the way you wanted to?

I picked up the stuff from Home Depot, and I did what others did and glued to of them together, so made 4 cut outs. used a razor blade to cut out a groove for the metal rod to sit in the middle.
As for shaping I used a electric hand palm sander and gave the edge a soft round corner.

Sweet thanks for the tip , got to get this to the guy before he prints them next week,

Um , now I wonder, If I just do I'M FAMAU5, or do it in not caps?
