Cowboys & Aliens - Jake Lonergan Gauntlet Weapon

Thanks Gareee, I think I'll just go with the more basic cup gauntlet though. Ok, I got the blaster off the cup after about two hours :D It's would have gone much faster, but I'm staying with family so I don't have all my tools that would have made this loads easier. I'll get some pictures up when I paint it this week end. Good luck to all of you! :D

My ife's guantletwill be the standard version.. you'll probably also want to open up the longer light compartment so you can swap out batteries before you paint it up. (Thats part of the reason I'm adding hinges to ours.)

Also, On mine, I added the hinge on the outside portion... its easier to put on and take off that way, BUT IMHO it looks better if you put the hinge on the inside facing you, and that clasp thing I added on the outside.

From the outside, it'll look like it isn't removable.

To "pop" that battery door cover, put a thin screwdriver or butter knife tip in the inside end. There are two posts in either corner that will need to be "popped" Once they snap, there are two center posts that also need to be popped. With care, you can easily pop all of them without harming the electronics or wires.

Use the pic posted earlier of the electronics for reference where you can safely pry.

Otherwise, once the batteries go, odds are you'll scrape up your paint job separating the cup halves do do that change.

One you have that cover off, you can just secure it back down with electrical tape.

(I'd also cover all the exposed wires as well with it, so you don't bust them putting the gauntlet on, and taking it off.

If you are slipping it on or off, you could easily tear that led wire out, I think.

Yeah, I plan to open up the light compartments, and add two white LEDs to each of them and maybe some external ones on other parts of the gauntlet. Also I plan on holding it together with magnets, and possibly putting some car filler on the inside to make it look more uniform. I'm still brainstorming ideas at this point, but I'm pretty sure I know what I want to do. :p

The insulation faom tubes previously mentioned pretty much cover up the entire interior.. also the compression pressure from them may well exceed the strength of your magnets. If you are adding leds to the main lights, you might want to check the batteries, since they are small, and might be insufficient to power more lights.

(And if you are adding lights, its VERY easy to add a few white or blue ones for the HUD and make it removable.)

I was going to see the movie this coming weekend, but just realized San Japan is this weekend, so probably gonna have to wait.

For those of you who have seen the movie, have you thought about recreating the wanted poster? I think that would be a great prop to add to a collection! I just haven't been able to find any screen shots yet

I recently finished one cup mod for a friend by combining two cups.
Pictures are really bad, as I had to use my cell phone. So you don't see a lot of the paintjob details :(

I used a small hinge and two neodym magnets on the other side to close it. I made small hooks, which are hold by the magnets. I used a very good double sided tape to put the hinge, the hooks and the magnets in place. So no screws, which are maybe visible, where used and so far, after wearing the wrist gaunlet one evening at home for testing, its holding together with no problems.

I also rewired the lights. So now you have the possibility to light them up permanently and by pressing the additional trigger button to "boost up" the lights. Also you can switch it totally off and light up with the trigger as long as you press it.

(Yes its missing the padding on this pictures)

Here you can see the difference between the lights now.

At them moment I'm working on a more screen accurate version, based on the cups. This one had to be finished soon, as a friend of mine wanted to have it asap.

So I ordered my Denix 1860 Colt Army last night:

Picked up my holster and belt today, at Cabela's:

It's a little more red than I would have liked, but it's also a bit stiff. So I plan on oiling it to soften it, and that should also give it a more worn, dark look.

Going to JoAnn's tomorrow to try to find some fabric for the vest and chaps.

And of course, I'll be modding one of the gauntlets as well :)

Yes, I thought of that. I need a really good screencap first.

These are the best I could find...

The description reads:
"Age, 37 Height, 5 feet, 10 inches. Weight, 175 lbs. Lighter hair, blue eyes and strong features. He is wanted for Arson, Assault, Mayhem and Hijacking. His band of desperadoes robbed the Santa Fe Bullion Coach last month of $10,000 in gold. His accomplices in the robbery include Pat Dolan and Bull McCade."

Can't quite make out what it says before "Contact", but after that I'm assuming is "U.S. Marshal's Office"

I only have mine to the primer stage and still need to construct the extended parts but I'm pretty happy with my scratch build so far.
I've yet to see anyone re-create the handle as it appeared on-screen.

Loving that!!! (y)thumbsup Fantastic work....can't wait to see it painted.

Thanks guys!
I'm using a combination of metallic and translucent automotive paints to color it.
Keeping my fingers crossed on the results.
Should have more pics soon.
Here's a link to the build thread if anyone is interested:
