My ife's guantletwill be the standard version.. you'll probably also want to open up the longer light compartment so you can swap out batteries before you paint it up. (Thats part of the reason I'm adding hinges to ours.)
Also, On mine, I added the hinge on the outside portion... its easier to put on and take off that way, BUT IMHO it looks better if you put the hinge on the inside facing you, and that clasp thing I added on the outside.
From the outside, it'll look like it isn't removable.
To "pop" that battery door cover, put a thin screwdriver or butter knife tip in the inside end. There are two posts in either corner that will need to be "popped" Once they snap, there are two center posts that also need to be popped. With care, you can easily pop all of them without harming the electronics or wires.
Use the pic posted earlier of the electronics for reference where you can safely pry.
Otherwise, once the batteries go, odds are you'll scrape up your paint job separating the cup halves do do that change.
One you have that cover off, you can just secure it back down with electrical tape.
(I'd also cover all the exposed wires as well with it, so you don't bust them putting the gauntlet on, and taking it off.
If you are slipping it on or off, you could easily tear that led wire out, I think.
