I received my Comic Con email today. Now I just need to study the procedure and make sure nothing is on my calendar on the 16th. When should I make hotel reservations?

Currently you can reserve "Early bird" hotels. They are hotels farther away from the convention (outside of downtown). You usually have to pay for them in full and cannot cancel, so they are iffy, especially if you failed to get passes to the con.
AFTER registration SDCC will open up hotel reservations.... similar to badge registration it involves the hotel booking system opening up on a day at a specific time. You can list up to 20 hotels you would like (#1 being your top pick). About a week later, travel planners will email you and tell you what hotel you got from your list. Then you must put down a 2 nights deposit to hold that hotel reservation.

That's good to know about the hotel reservations. I didn't want to pay in full with no refund and run the risk of not getting tickets. I went on line and checked for rooms at a few hotels close to the convention center, and they all said no rooms ere available for the dates I picked. I thought I was too late to get a close hotel.

Note to people buying badges for this. Be by your computer as soon as the time hits the time to purchase or you wont get a ticket.
Been going since 1997 but I have professional tickets so did not have to worry about this. Its really hard now for people to buy tickets.

if they are registered professionals... this went on a month ago we get a free badge for ourselfs, a free badge for a family or friend and 1 paid friend.
New members have to wait until early 2013 to book the tickets. Members who attended Comic Con 2012 only got the option to apply for preregistration.
Anybody who recently created their member id will get the following message if they log in.
"We're sorry, you are not eligible to participate in the 2013 online badge preregistration and will need to wait until our open online badge registration to be held sometime in early 2013."
March 2013 is my guess for the open online registration.

if you want to volunteer make sure you sign up for a member ID. An email will go out with your instructions on how to join in on this. The slots fill up as fast as the tickets go.

Game of Thrones was Saturday. Get there early and sit through panels you might or might not want to sit through. Girlfriend last year sat through 3-4 hours worth of panels just for G.O.T. At the end of the day she was glad she did, for she saw panels about the shows/movies that were entertaining.
