Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

@ Daniel, I think the brushed silver looks really good, I would go that route with the silver parts, nice job so far

Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

Hey what's up guys!

You guys have no idea how many hours I spent trying to dye these the right color :facepalm...and I think it's still a bit off. I also painted the knee pads and inverted them...

Hey Crabra, the color looks pretty good so far but you might want to add a pinch or two of black rit dye to the blue. Save the dye bath and that way if the blue still is'nt dark enough, add a touch more. A friend of mine does this and works out really well for him. Just be careful not to add too much black at once or.......well you know what would happen. Good luck.

Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

I think I should mention, the combat shirt has a cordura fabric on the arms (I think).

That stuff would not change color at all! So I tried making the pants dark, but not so dark that the pants were black...

Ughhh, not liking to hear that. I bought a shirt like that to try and change the color too. I bought some industrial color remover, hopefully it will help. Luckily, I got the lightest color version I could find in the hopes of the color removing easier.

How to Dye Cordura | eHow.com

I read this, apparently you CAN dye it, but only darker than what it already is! :facepalm

Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

It does look really good now that all of it is darker, looks like your getting it all pulled together, also i just finished up the visor buck for vacu forming the visor, I haven't taken pics yet, not sure if anyone is interested in seeing a vacu form buck but I will post some pics later on this evening.

I have a question? with the suit being a dark color, what color do you think the helmet should be, can you possibly post up some color swatches, I am getting close to painting the CC lid and hve been trying to figure what shade of blue to go with

Oh cool, I can't wait to see the visor.

(I'm familiar with what vacuform bucks look like though...used to be my job to run a vacuform machine, so I'm happy just waiting for the pulled visor pics.)

Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

Looks great, curious ever come up with what your doing for the full chest armor?

Re: Cobra Commander (Krake) Build...

just wanted to post a pic of the visor buck I made to vacu form the visor, its all nice and smooth and ready for the vacuformer I know its not much but at least is some progress and really one of the last steps to complete the helmet, I should have a few visors made in a couple days, the plan is to take one visor and install it in the helmet im working on, mold the helmet with the visor installed, then take a casting, finish the casting with a visor, then send this badboy to Crabra Comander

Visor buck for your viewing pleasure

The buck is not painted, the shine is from wet sanding the urethane plastic

Update time on the Helmet

I finished smoothing the helmet, I sprayed it with a gloss black spray paint, this is not the final paint job for the helmet, it will end up being a dark navy blue, I had the black paint laying around and decided to use it on the helmet since this helmet will be molded I wanted a nice smooth finish on the master this way it will be reproduced on teh casting, I have to make Crabra a cast copy because this one is a little on the heavy side plus it has alot of bondo work on it which you can tell by how smooth it is, I worked at it till it was as smooth as I could get it, from the refrence pics I have the helmet looks smooth and shiney. also pulled a visor for the helmet from the custom made visor buck, the first visor had a few issues which is being worked out on the buck so im useing the first visor on the master to fill the visor area for molding. So now to some pics
