Chronicle / Efx Mandalorian prop replicas

craigjohn so yours does not have this obvious error in the top Mohawk?

no.

When you first open the box, and lift the styrofoam cover, and look at the helmet. It's dark and drab. The weathering looks nasty. I kinda got a sinking feeling. But as soon as I put this next to a good light source, it came alive.

This pic really shows how good it can look.

But where are you going to display this? For me? It's in my office - and it's not next to a window. So it's back to looking pretty dark.

My mohawk lines are not wonky. Took a pic with my iPhone, but nothing interesting to see. They're look like a movie prop.

It's small. Smaller than my MDF Fett helmet. Much more narrow. I can imagine it'd feel somewhat claustrophobic in there. LOL

Not a big fan of the weathering on the cheeks - but in a dark room - it's literally not noticeable. ...but that's because the helmet is pretty dark.

This thing craves light, and I'm going to have to clear a spot next to my office window so it can look it's best. My biggest fear are my kids. They're 6 and 8, and they'll want to play with it. So for now, it stays up, and out of their reach.

***One bit that annoys me more any another with my cast. Left mandible droops about 1/4" lower than the right.

Which isn't a trait on the screen used helmets. But it's only noticeable when you're up close. From a view distancing - 6-8 ft. Not nearly as much.

The cast is light, but solid and feels sturdy. Very much like my Vader TM ESB. It's definitely lighter than my MDF Fett.

My visor is a bit scuffed up. but Meh. Almost impossible to notice in good light or bad light. You really need to reflect light off the visor to notice.

The overall feel of it though? Is it perfect? No. Definitely not. But it's freaking cool. And it's lineage goes back to the production molds (likely with some mods for sure), which is double cool.

Those are my initial thoughts.

Excellent summary!

If you'd like there are plenty of members at the FB MR group that would love to see these photos.

Feel free to send a request and I'll approve it.

Looks like a covid 19 sneeze during the scribing process

The mandible slight droop is the only thing I noticed only because the detail of the photos is top notch. And then after you mentioned it I had to look for what you were seeing. Very good review thanks GC

I just got an email with a link towards EFx website to pay the resining balance - no worries, but a whopping 270$ shipping fees to Europe ? Sorry but WTFFFFFF ? Is that normal ?

Yes that's entirely accurate. I had to ship a light saber recently there and the buyer had to walk me through the customs and specific wording. It is very expensive due to duties to ship to Belgium. I was going via Ebay so it involved point to point paypal payment NOT via the ebay checkout system. You wont have that option and neither does EFX as a business.... SO yes yikes !

Mine landed today and I’m pretty impressed, no wonkiness at all and the paint is actually very nice, the weathering is slightly heavy and it appears there is no clear coat on the ears or the back vent. But those are minor points to me, the visor is sturdy despite hearing people say it’s thin, it isn’t. The padding is tidy and it’s a solid, licensed piece.

Does the detail line on the lower ear/side seem dull? Like it should be a sharp, flat straight line? Maybe it’s the lack of highlight there? Either way, I ordered it and am “patiently” waiting. [emoji23]

Second wave/ Got this email from Chronicle today:

"We just learned today that the second wave should be landing in LA this week. The Port of LA is showing some delays right now, so we're hoping to hear more information in the next few days regarding the actual unload date.

Assuming they arrive to the Port of LA by the 26th, they will likely be delivered to EFX in LA to be shipped to customers during the week of July 6th. We are shipping directly from EFX, so customers do not have to wait extra time to get them delivered to our location in Texas.

We will begin making shipping labels to send to EFX this week. You will receive a shipping notice from our website when the label is printed. Please do not fear if you do not see movement for several days after receiving your tracking information. We need to get the labels to EFX prior to the helmets being delivered so they can be ready to ship as soon as they arrive. "

Great news! Thanks.
I'm waiting for mine too
(I just paid shipping costs this Tuesday already.)

Exactly.
And on my screenshots, we see that it's not that sharp. It all depends on the lighting and the angle of the shot.

It certainly looks less defined to me on the efx. Most screen shots show a very noticable Y shape on the ears. The efx doesn't. It just has the top part noticeable.

I don't know if the brighter parts are painted differently than the slanted parts on the screen used helmets, but it sure looks that way. The efx just has a monotone look to the lower part of the ear that doesn't blend well with the main color or the helmet. Overall the color of the bottom part of the efx ears looks wrong to me.

Anyway, yes, the "edge" is much less pronounced on the EFX helmet vs the Anovos.

Even here in their own "pattern photo," EFX shows they weren't as well defined as they should have been.

I've seen quite a few die hards not pleased with Efx's or Anovos paint jobs as both of theirs tend to be on the darker side, despite looking decent under the light. They just prefer the look of the Alumauster, which from the paint jobs I've seen on custom helmets does look the best - but of course is ridiculously expensive. :(
