Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

are these the ones worn by tony stark in iron man 2? or are they different and have another color?
Yes, the Initium Superunknown in tortoise, are the frames worn by Tony Stark in Iron Man 2. :)

I've grabbed a couple of screenshots for your reference, to hopefully show the frames and lenses in better detail...

20221031_141546.jpg

In this pic below, you can see the lighter amber sections of the tortoise frame. It also shows the light brown lenses. The lenses are lighter at the outer sections of each lens, the main darker brown effect in the centre is just shadow from his face..
20221031_141523.jpg

You can see that the lenses are not gradient, but a solid light brown...
20221031_141620.jpg 20221031_141405.jpg

How light the lenses are is seen here below, where the left lens is just over the white shirt of the gentleman in the background...
20221031_141351.jpg

As for the tortoise frames themselves, you can really see the tortoise striation pattern highlighted here, just when the press take a flash photo...

Here's some extra pics of my Superunknown for your reference...

20221031_145110.jpg 20221031_145228.jpg 20221031_145301.jpg 20221031_145422.jpg 20221031_145544.jpg 20221031_145633.jpg 20221031_145704.jpg 20221031_145727.jpg 20221031_145755.jpg 20221031_145815.jpg 20221031_150101.jpg

In these original first versions, Initium had an anti-reflective (AR) coating on the lenses, which are ideal for use in filming movies and also give them a high end look...

You can see the green reflection effect of the AR coating on the bright white light of my selfie mini halo ring.

Is that the dark tortoise version?

Is that the dark tortoise version?

Okay, so I didn't buy my Superunknown's from Initium, I got them from ebay a long while back now, so I can't be sure on the exact named color from that perspective.

Time for a bit of investigating!!

So looking at what Initium have available now, I think my frames tortoise pattern is closer to the RX tortoise version, if not exactly that. Bear in mind Initium's product shot of their RX tortoise looks really bright.

Mine...
20221031_150101.jpg 20221031_145727.jpg

Initium's RX tortoise (really bright product photo)...
20221101_082040.jpg

Initium's RX tortoise (looking a lot darker in standard lighting)...Looking closely, I think the above pair used in the product picture are the middle pair in this picture...
20221101_083308.jpg
Notice how much variation there is in the tortoise pattern between the 5 RX pairs, with the middle pair having that large streak of amber right across the bridge, compared to the more subtle patterns of the other 4 pairs.

I think the dark tortoise are too dark and don't have much amber or amber streaks in them (also they are supplied with gradient lenses )...
20221101_084332.jpg 20221101_084319.jpg

As product shots, these will probably be even darker in reality and when worn.
Notice how darker my frames look here just folded flat...
20221031_145544.jpg
Yet this pic was taken at exactly the same time...
20221031_145815.jpg

So I've took some more screenshots from IM2 and IMHO they aren't the dark tortoise...
20221101_082217.jpg 20221101_082332.jpg 20221101_080239.jpg

Note the pattern of those really light amber sections...
20221101_090836.jpg 20221101_092913.jpg

The 2 screenshots below show the light amber tortoise pattern throughout the frame quite well...
20221101_082158.jpg 20221101_082145.jpg

With the clincher IMO being this picture...
20221101_081648.jpg
...Which shows the pattern as random lines of streaks of amber tortoise, as opposed to the subdued much darker "non streak" pattern of the dark tortoise versions.

As with all tortoise frames, the amount of light tortoise you get is always pot luck!!

...Ooh, just noticed this too, it looks like Initium have used a gunmetal temple detail on both the later version RX tortoise and dark tortoise, the same gunmetal detail as seen on the black frame version...
20221101_095024.jpg 20221101_093502.jpg 20221101_094250.jpg

The earlier run movie versions have the "shiny silver" temple details, which on the left side only, is etched with "Ini+ium" and also they have the thinner shape temple tips...
20221101_094745.jpg 20221101_092913.jpg 20221101_100041.jpg

I know this was a bit long-winded but I hope it helps.:)

The extra investigating ironed out a few niggling doubts I had too!!

So where did these crop up in IM2?

Awesome reply!! Thanks.

Thanks man!! :D

Those tortoise London Calling weren't in any scenes in Iron Man 2, nor Iron Man 3 for that matter.

It was the red havana London Calling that were used in the IM2 deleted party scene, but as opposed to the IM3 LC red havana with very light grey/brown lenses, the consensus is that the deleted scene LC seem to have very light red lenses...
20221101_104629.jpg 20221101_104641.jpg

It's entirely possible though, that the exact pair of IM2 red havana also appeared in IM3 and quite possibly with the same IM3 very light grey/brown lenses!!

Although the lenses look light red on the 2 above shots, in the below pics, they look less red and seem to look a lot more like the IM3 lenses...
20221101_105640.jpg 20221101_111203.jpg

This last pic below, where the lighting is catching his hair, seems to reveal this too...

The London Calling red havana in IM3...
20221101_104924.jpg 20221101_110031.jpg

The right arm in the last IM3 pic really shows that red havana frame well...
20221101_110053.jpg

I think it may just be a slight oversight on Initium's part, in stating the tortoise versions are featured in both IM2 and IM3. :)

Thanks for that!

It was a slightly leading question as I was pretty sure of the answer, but having detailed confirmation is very helpful.

I don't have the London calling or Superunknown in any version but I'm considering getting one or the other.

I'm liking the red Havana London calling, I'm waiting to see if Initium put out some reductions which they used to at this time of year before making a decision.

You're more than welcome!! :)

I think the red havana is the way to go, as for the cost of just one frame, they have the duality of ticking the boxes for both IM2 and IM3 movie frames.

I think you are wise being patient for the right money off deal to come along. The red havana don't look like they'll run out any time soon. You don't really need to pay full sticker price unless you are desperate, in a panic buying state of mind o_O, or stock is running low.

Just make sure you are on Initium's mailing list (if you are not already) to receive the latest offers and deals.;)

There's bound to be a Black Friday or Thanksgiving/xmas deal soon!!

That was exactly my thinking.

I definitely was on the Initium mailing list but I haven't received anything in a while (maybe because they haven't sent out any mail) but to be on the safe side I re-registered the other day.

Fingers crossed for some good offers - I seem to recall some big reductions in the past.

Speaking of frames just arriving today :),
I wasn't going to bother with these frames, considering the somewhat unfortunate period they are from and thus making them highly unlikely to be ever seen or worn again...

20221101_124817.jpg 20221101_124846.jpg 20221101_124803.jpg

...But for $25, I bought a pair of Gucci GG 1188/S 5JD (55□17 135). I suppose they are part of the documented journey after all...

Saul would have done a much better job as his Attorney though. Lol

I had a spare empty new Gucci box and case, which although isn't the correct vintage style case, the GG 1188/S seem right at home in there...

Pretty much the same for me... not a favorite at all but when you see a correct pair at $30 or so how can you refuse?

Plus the way fashion goes, it's been a while since narrow shades were in... all it takes is one trendsetter and they could be back! I never thought I'd see those eighties mutton chop sleeves on women again but I'm seeing them on young professional ladies right now!

HaHa :D
You're right!!
Let's be trendsetters, wear our 1188/S out and about and bring back narrow shades!!
That said, I'm more likely to be walking about under the influence than be an influencer

I just need a really high flat top haircut and a nice white oversized suit jacket too, with those big shoulder pads that look like the coat hanger is still inside.
Oh and you have to do Miami Vice and roll the sleeves up too!! Lol.

Change of plan!!

I decided to order the Bernado OV5189s 1005N5 black

Lol.

To be honest I've been reckoning on getting them since I saw them with the awesome red lenses.

I'll be getting them sent straight off to my optometrist as soon as they arrive :)

Very nice, I still don't have a pair of those!! :D(y)

I'm sure your optometrist (I think you previously said Hugh from Lensology?) knows his craft inside and out (his impeccable work you've posted previously is simply awesome!!) but just for reference, I had a very early DIY attempt on these with some replica black frames a long while back which turned out a bit too red when worn. I think you maybe need to be aiming for that area of light red/pink color, the darker area is just face shadow/skin tone...
20221101_195529.jpg

Anyway, if your guy needs any more reference pics, they are easily found and all from the Chinese Premiere of "Age of Ultron" at Indigo Mall, Beijing, China, on 19th April 2015. ;)

Awesome reference, thanks!

I definitely know what you mean regarding the depth of the red when on the face.
That's where the understanding I've developed with Lensology is so good as I'm always given sample images both off and on the face, the difference is significant.

Also the red is a very interesting shade which will be a great project for Hugh and his colleagues. They enjoy the challenge of trying to get it "just right" - which is exceptionally difficult as the images I provide are obviously off the net and are affected by light, tone etc.

I'm gonna be pretty keen on these ones as I love the Bernado frames - I want these to be as close as is fair to expect.

I've only just ordered the frames and I'm excited to see the finished product once I get them over to Lensology :)

they look great with that red! the good thing with these ones is that you can go to an op store and get the optical version with demo lenses that is identical to the sunglasses version but costs like 80$ less

I think these are Oliver Peoples Scheyer OV5277U 1336 solid black to grey graduation frame (52□18 145)...;)

As the image is only in black and white, I thought it's worth mentioning there's also a 1525 seasky color, but I ruled these out as the upper half is semi-translucent...
