Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

No problem!! :)

The correct frame (satin silver) is either from the 042/8z...

or the 042/8g...
View attachment 1637313

I have both pairs, and it's a common misconception that the 042/8z are the only correct pair. The stock 042/8z brown lenses actually have a slight coating of mirror gradient on them. (This mirror coating began to degrade and come off on my pair of 8z).

The movie lenses are actually custom "solid" light brown anyway, so essentially either of the satin silver frames will do.

The "actual" IM used frames may also be either the 8z or 8g.
Thanks for that.

It's always the 041/13 that are available.

That's the set I have. I got solid light brown lenses done for them and they are awesome frames, they look great on - I like them very much so I'm not too gutted but I'll probably keep my eye out for the correct version.

Same here. I have gunmetal but they may be the most silvery gunmetal color ever so I don't feel too bad really.

I bought a used spectral transmittance meter. My robert marc amber lenses had 48% transmittance.

Earlier today I was doing some eyewear related musing about Initium eyewear from the movies.

The question I was posing myself was "has RDJ worn the Initium frames from the various movies in regular life"?

I don't recall seeing images where this is the case. I found that quite interesting

Hmm how many frames were "taken home" at all, rather than going the other direction? The Flight 006 I suspect, but other than that?

Edit: I mean even looking at total film output.

The Flights and Matsuda M3023 have been worn "outside".

What I'm getting at is we're more likely to be searching for Oliver Peoples, Armani, Cutler and gross, Dita etc.

I don't recall seeing the Initium frames worn outside the movies which suggests RDJ doesn't choose to wear them in normal life.

It's no big deal, I just find the fact interesting - as I'm waiting for my Black Oliver Peoples Bernardo (pink/red lens) & Giorgio Armani AR7019-K5047 Garconne (yellow lens) that those frames are seen quite frequently.

Speaking of those two frames - think 5 year old on Christmas eve level excitement LOL

Oh yes, I get you. I like some of the initium quite well, but the ones we've seen free range are non-movie. Except haven't we seen the Superunknown out and about? I'm not at my computer but I think yes.

Edit: page 112!

I have a memory of maybe all-ins at a press event in Tokyo also (in the pic I'm thinking of RDJ has just a mustache). Not 100% sure.

He's worn Initium Nighttown and Cocktails also.

the tokyo pic I was thinking of is not the All-Ins. I think it's the Bulgari. So Superunknowns are the only one outside of movie wardrobe I think.

I know the OOP Garrett Leights can be hard to find, if you want a placeholder for the Grayson, I just saw Saint Laurent has an extremely similar frame, the SL158, in a nearly identical color. If you hunt it's available for $99 instead of $350 MSRP. Just an option if this is a personal favorite.

...I found them on the French tv show "C à Vous" (it's in 2 parts)...

Part 1 of 2:

Part 2 of 2:

After watching both parts through and seeing how much screen time they had, I was really pleased I decided to order a pair!!...

Being on the K&K mailing list for quite a while had only really generated a few promo events/new frame launches etc. This sale was the first big reduction in prices on some of their frames that I received.
Schlegel is right that it's unlikely the "Carter" will ever be any cheaper.(y)

Despite the frames being Italian acrylic, a $500 or so RRP price tag on designer eyewear would usually warrant the use of more exotic materials/metals and handcrafted or hand-carved details, (which would admittedly, be a bit difficult to add into an "all transparent" frame).
I think I would be slightly disappointed paying full price for any K&K's and IMHO the sale price more than takes the sting out and is a maybe a bit more realistic for what they are. (Of course, this is just my honest opinion!!).

I think maybe then, it's more about the bold color and style, which is definitely eyecatching and will no doubt attract lots of attention!!

Added them to my 2 pairs of "Victor" in helping to kick-off my mini K&K collection...:)

I decided to treat myself, lol.

I don't own any of the kirk and kirk brand so that's a nice box ticked. I like the colour as well.

Do they arrive with usable clear lenses?

Yes, I forgot to mention that they are supplied with clear demo lenses, which means they are ready to go if you don't need a prescription. The clear demos are good quality and actually have an AR coating on them.

That is good to know. Thanks

Nice that you ordered a pair :D(y), looks like there is (or was) only 4 pair left.

I decided on an early Christmas present too!! Lol.

I've tried to capture the AR coating on the demo lenses in this pic...

Looking at the 2 YouTube videos again, you can definitely see the AR coating throughout the show, as it turns a slight green when it catches the light...

3 pairs when I was looking!!

They actually look really nice. I'm glad I pressed buy! :)

I just couldn't bring myself to pay MSRP on these, even though they look really fun... it's up there with titanium Matsuda prices. Really mulling over getting a second frame in another color while they are on sale.
