Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

I can now retire my SPS 50M placeholders that I modified from some 4AC-6S1 from p.170 - (They served me well, I wore them quite a lot, as they did the job just fine)..
20220327_112532.jpg 20220327_112510.jpg 20220327_112546.jpg

I found some correct SPS 50M 1BC-3M1...:D
20220327_114313.jpg 20220327_115903.jpg 20220327_114202.jpg 20220327_114116.jpg 20220327_115827.jpg 20220327_114951.jpg

A while back, I originally thought they might have had the lenses from the 4AC-6S1, but it was mainly just the product shot of the 1BC-3M1 showing the lenses deceptively more blue...
20220327_111833.jpg

Definitely just the stock 1BC-3M1 lenses (etched "Prada" on the top of the left lens)...

I'm currently painstakingly going through all my non-movie RDJ frames (currently standing at 80 or so) and making small laminated "info" presentation cards which fit into the frames original cases. This is to catalogue and reference them (similar to my complete movie frames collection in presentation/info. boxes) and give each individual frame much needed context, with exactly "when and where" they were worn.
Reference images are then very easily found by adding the various dates/places to "RDJ" in an images search.

I've nearly done all of them, here are some examples...

I wondered if anyone else "doubles up" on frames if they see a total bargain?

Anyway, amongst doubling up on some other IM frames, I stumbled upon a brand new pair of Black Tie 137's for £28.00 on eBay UK...
20220327_183755.jpg
I wanted to ask the seller if they were 51mm or 53mm first, but kinda immediately dived in and took a gamble...following a bit of waiting for them to arrive and some vigorous "finger crossing" later, they turned out to be 53's!!...
Surely, you gotta have a spare pair for that price!!

That is an awesome deal.
I usually blame my not getting these bargains because they're more readily available over in the US.
No excuse this time! £28 in the UK is a fantastic pick up, although I will confess to feeling annoyed with my own inactivity in searching more often Lol

Yeah, the daily routine of endless searches are nothing short of monotonous and time consuming, yet every so often you are rewarded with a golden nugget for your trouble.

The "searching more often" is the only weapon in the arsenal (that I know of) to secure really hard to find frames.
Still not entirely sure though, if the amount of time spent actually and realistically equals the end goal, but I suppose until robots (like my mad and mischievous Roombas) are able to do it for me, there's no other way really!!

Yes, the automatic ebay notifications are far too slow as well as missing anything not labeled perfectly.
At that price I Imagine few of us would pass up a hard-to-find frame.

I am trying something different to make being stylish easier for me... I just got my annual eye exam and got contact lenses for the first time in a couple decades. One eye for distance, one for closer. This should make it possible, If I can tolerate them, to wear non-prescription shades and make getting the right colors much cheaper. It's not ideal, I can't read very small things well but I am already used to carting around multiple glasses, so I plan to turn a couple frames into reading glasses for when I am wearing contacts.

I'm thinking the clear lensed frames can be divided into regular prescription candidates for no-contact lens days and reading glasses. Like the Arthurs are a good reading glasses size. Actually I suspect this is what most of the clear lens RDJ glasses are as it would be unlikely for him not to have presbyopia in his 50's. Even people who have their vision surgically corrected still have to deal with this.

I have a pair in burgundy, great frame by the way. isn’t it wonderful when there’s a new rdj picture with a pair of glasses you already have?

Got around to hitting up my Paul Smith Lennie (from p.276 & p.278) with some light grey customs...

20220331_141917.jpg 20220331_141818.jpg 20220331_142114.jpg 20220331_141833.jpg 20220331_142704.jpg

The genuine green glass lenses were really hard to remove, but again, (Similar to removing the almost impossible glass OP Sheldrake lenses), some mild hairdryer heat with careful and calculated brute force did the trick.

Also (non RDJ), found these sub $30 Paul Smith Wayden, with the same blue horn color code as the blue PS Shawbury (149880). They're slightly bigger in size (lens width) too, 51□20 145 compared to the Shawbury's 50□20 145, just with a round style like the Lennie's. Hit them up with some light blue customs...

20220331_144211.jpg 20220331_144241.jpg 20220331_144304.jpg

Thought I'd post these too (non-RDJ) mega cheap $20 bargains...Paul Smith Charlton PM8207 1087 (oak outer frame with midnight blue inner frame and white piping detail).
They weren't much to look at when they arrived in a sorry state, dirty with scratched and yellowed RX thick prescription lenses and the temple arms had been bent down excessively (almost like "hook" cable temples) to fit a tiny head.

Some $5 donor gradient blue custom lenses and a full clean up and service brought them back to life!! They're a nice size too at 53□18 150.
20220331_152403.jpg 20220331_152242.jpg 20220331_154803.jpg 20220331_152217.jpg 20220331_154832.jpg

I'm always on the look out for bargain "fixer-uppers" who've been mistreated and neglected for most of their lives and need rescuing to a loving home!! Lol.
I should open the "UV400 Sanctuary For Battered Frames Trust" :D

They look great once they've been shown a bit of TLC and "RDJ'd" up a bit with custom lenses!!

Finally got around today putting some custom purple/pink lenses in my Cutler And Gross 1301 -06 (from p.279).

My first attempt using the same very light purple tint donors, which I think I also used in my tortoise OP Soloist 4's (p.260), were too light...

20220331_184302.jpg 20220331_184242.jpg 20220331_184036.jpg

So had to go a bit darker...

20220331_181227.jpg 20220331_182559.jpg 20220331_181023.jpg 20220331_182627.jpg 20220331_185217.jpg 20220331_185203.jpg

Crazy, but I've only just realized whilst taking the pictures, that the gold nose pads have "Cutler And Gross" on them!!....Sweet.

Great job!

Thank you for your kind compliment dude!! :D
I think it's great that we can all come here and have an outlet to share pics and talk eyewear with likeminded collectors and eyewear aficionados!!
When I talk eyewear at home, I can't help noticing the missus beginning to nod off!! Lol.
Lol. Same.

Whenever the little icon notification appears it's always a welcome sign to check in and see whose doing what.

I've gained an unbelievable amount from this group

Pardon the terrible lighting but I was finally able to pick up a pair of striated (?) Original Initium British Steel frames. I picked up the original tort frame and a bunch of the re-releases.

Congrats on another "grail" pair dude!!(y)
Where do you go to find these things, "grailironmanframes.com" ?? Lol.

Seriously though, you gotta be totally and accurately complete with your IM movie frames!!:D

I consider myself realistically "complete" with my IM movie frames collection, but hand on heart, to be totally 100% exact like your good self, I still need:

1: Roy Tower Concept 2
2: Von Zipper Fulton red checkers 1st original issue
3: Mosley Tribes Bromley 1211 red/ burgundy
4: Initium British Steel (striated)!!

Sincerely, well done man on all of the above!! Awesome acquisitions!!
You can't hear me, but I'm emanating a subtle jealous "Grrrr!!!" Lol.;)

Thanks dude!!! I wish that was a website we could all get frames from!! They were listed on eBay as the cult of individuality and the main picture was of just the case. So I got lucky. I'm still missing whichever 719 is considered screen accurate. I have a pair of gold placeholders. That one is my last pair. It'll be tough.

My first vacation of the year is coming up. I've been have nightmares trying to decide which eyewear to take for the evenings, and more importantly which to leave behind.

I thought I'd finally decided, and the British Steel were ones that didn't make the cut - but now I'm not sure again ..... LOL

I recently had a similar holiday eyewear conundrum!!
In the end, I based my selections on the least rare and/or least expensive.
I thought of how cool the resulting holiday pics would look with my favorite rare and most expensive frames, but then thought of how careful I ultimately would be after some obligatory holiday cocktails!!
Accidentally damaging a rare or expensive frame would really put an unwanted dent in any holiday!!
Unless you are RDJ of course, the nonchalance of wearing Matsuda M3023 at the beach!! (gio(y) mentioned this a while back, Lol)
