Building X-Wing 1/24 : Help!!

Just confirming Steve's find for the part under the laser cannons: The 1/35 motorized Tamiya M4A3E8 (MT218). Looks like they're pretty easy to get hold of; I think I paid way over the odds for mine. The fact that it still has the original price sticker (for $3) doesn't help...

Tamiya make two M4A3 kits at the moment (the "A3" part designates the Ford v8 engine, and hence the engine grille part that we're interested in), but they both have four rivets. This appears to be the right amount of rivets for the real M4A3 tank, but the wrong amount of rivets for the X-wing.

The kit I got - with five rivets - is an old one from the 60s/70s - it's a 1/35 motorized kit of the M4A3E8 (the "E8" part designates the horizontal suspension bogeys). MT218 (or maybe MT218-600?) is the kit number. Looks like they come up on eBay pretty regularly - there just happened not to be any on the day that I found mine, and splurged on it. Just search for "tamiya sherman" and it should be obvious from the description whether it's the right kit or not.

Edit: Just to clarify, Steve PM'd me about this kit just after I found the one I bought, and of course I'd never have found it if he hadn't pointed out what the part was, so it's 100% Steve's find.

My Shiden arrived yesterday and I found the mysterious rectangular piece on the R2 strip:

47b3d831b3127cce891f115836d20000002610

It's part C-16:

47b3d838b3127cce89e5803aebd30000001610

If that ain't it, it'll do. It's the perfect size and shape. The rivets look a little small, but it had to have gone through at least two generations before becoming part of that Death Star piece, so maybe there was mushing of detail.

I was checking checking my referance on the wings and info you all have here by the way is a tome of knowledge and I couldn't build the x with out your brains
thanks
anyways there seems to be an error on the back of the wings at the root (near the fuzy)
the part said to come from the tamiya 1/35 8rad sdkfz 232 the little cylendrical part I looked at my kits and its not in there as far as I can find out
is there anonther kit it could be from like the anzio annie or thor
thanks woould it be okay for me to post a kit list
and btw I am starting a xwing builders club or maybe repulic ship yards site over at yahoo soon anyone interested in donating info and or pics would be great and much appreciated

Not sure what you mean by the little cylindrical part, but the MONOGRAM 1/35 8rad contributes the part at the bottom in the very center.

much thanks
I thought I was going crazy at first I thought I had a rereleased kit that was remolded but checked all 6 of mine and they are all originals I will look again

hey guys
I just got my m8 munitions carrier
if I an correct in thinking only two parts are used the center wheel caps well ther are plenty togo round pleas confirm thi is the only contribution from this kit so I can share parts with people who need then
ca

Although you got your answer on the yahoo group, I thought I'd post it here:

The kit also yields:

-two hubcaps on either side of the Sherman part, on top of Hummel parts on rear

-a pair of other greeblies (seat supports) used for rear of fuselage (on either side of Sherman part, below Hummel parts)

As you can see from having the kit, there are plenty of wheels and hubcaps for many x-wings, but only one set of seat supports.

here is a few photo's of my progress

thanks this is nice to finally post some photos let em know what you all think if I am in the right direction or I suck and shouldn't quit my day job

Hey, it's nice to see others building something. Looking good! Unfortunately I'm still stuck in the planning stages.

I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth to greeblies on the R2 strip. Both parts are from the Bandai 1/15 Stug. The parts are shown next to a full size printout of the strip for scale reference. Of course the X shaped part would need to have the ring trimmed off.
