After a few failed attempts at making the claymores, I had a go at a cannon instead. It was hard going too but I'm happy how it came out.
Started off making the basic barrel shape from 3 pieces. I used a former to hold the shape whilst the glue set.
Next I curved another piece over an old tin to get the curved bottom.
Next I marked the recessed channels on the sides and made templates for the sides and sliding piece at the front.
I cut the aforementioned pieces out and used the heat gun to bend the front sliding part round the barrel. A good tip I have worked out is to cut a V into the reverse of any atraight folds you make, it stops the edge bowing out and makes the fold sharper.
Next was the round end. I cut two discs and also a long strip to form the basic tub. I used a bottle of vinegar as the former and simply heated the strip and bend it round the bottle, careful to keep it parallel.
I printed out a template for the grooves on the round tube and stuck it in place. I cut every one of the grooves out with a scalpel then marked the area with a pen. The next task was Dremalling all of these out which was soul destroying but needs must.
I Dremelled the rest of the detail on to the sides and then added a few pieces to the front for the nozzle and on the underside. The hardest part was the curved piece on top. It was eventually made from a small length of Foamex formed round half a tube of Maltesers then pushing and pinched one end until it looked right. It took a while and was hard to get a flat base but go there in the end. I cut the holes where the Pred symbols how through and heated another strip of Foames to fill the spce underneath.
One Predator Wolf Style Cannon done...and one to go. Not bad for what material wise has cost about £3.
