Budget Wolf Build

Just visited this thread first time, but man, like a virgin!

Amazing skills you have, and very suited.

If you move on to full sculpting and custom designs, you're one mean freaking fast prototypingmachine...

Brilliant work, really well done! good to see othetr ways of making stuff other than sculpting and moulding.
Is it pretty durable, able to take a knock or to for costuming?

I think it will take a fair beating, certainly stronger than latex would be. Have to wait and see how well it paints up though I'm not too worried about it.

I don't think you will have much of a problem painting the sintra if you use Krylon Fusion paint, after that any other paint will bond to the Krylon.

Been getting these cannon arms done over the last few weeks. Took a while to come up with a way that would allow movement as I don't know exactly how they will need to sit once the whole suit is on. Seems to work ok. Started off with templates for the main arm, I cut four of these from Foamex.

The next bit was marking these onto balsa wood and cutting them out.

I made the smaller pivot that attaches to the back armour in the same way. The Foamex was just hot glued to either side of the balsa.

The pivot to mount the actual cannon was next. I made up a template in Illustrator then cut two of them out. It was designed to fold up into one piece. This was easy to do once you cut V shaped grooves along all the folds. I also added a couple of earth magnets to the underside. Opposing magnets were dropped into the cannons and glued in place.

The really tedious part was the detailing, all done with a Dremel. Couple of 6mm holes bored through each section to allow the bolts thorugh and voila!. Each section is tightened by using a washer and a wingnut. I'll probably have to add another method holding the cannons in place as I would money on them getting nicked if it's only the magnets keeping them there.

Next the claymores, anyone have any idea how to make these cheaply? i.e. no moulding?

Got the cannon mounts glued onto the backplate this afternoon. Will try and get the backpack done as well on Sunday. Planning to mount it with magnets also as it makes everything easier to store if it comes apart. It needs the back and bottom of it closed over before I get to mounting it though. Also got a template done for the claymores. Haven't decided exactly how I'm going to fill out the curved sides yet as I don't have any PU foam and I think the expanding cavity stuff will just expand beyond control and engulf the basic frame.

Claymores are well under way, started out with an Illustrator based template and cut 3 bases from foamex. Made 3 frame sections for each and glued them onto the base.

I filled each section with expanding cavity foam.

Left it overnight to set and fully cure.

Next I used a serrated knife to cut the shape down to sixe, follwing the frame to get it even on each of the 3 points.
DSC00655.jpg

Used fine sand paper to sand them down to the curved shapes. There were a few air pockets that needed filled hot glue. Tomorrow I'll add some hammered texteuring and add the 3 tubular pieces on the tips. I've bough hardwood dowel to do the job and have magntes for the feet. More than likely use foamex for the top piece where the led's would be (mine won't have any).

Also made a start on the feet whilst I had the foam handy. Using an old pair of industrial work boots that I tied up tight enough that they are comfortable but can still be slipped on and off. I hot glued all the laces as I don't want any stretching across the top which could break the foam once it is set.

Serious amount of carving and sculpting do do on these, hopefully it will work out. Foam only covers half the foot as Wolf has brown ankle socks on for want of a better term.

ever thought of covering them in spray latex and then painting it

I'll be setting up the airbrush later this week to get the mask done so may do that at the same time, going to need a base coat/primer of some description.

Well I still haven't tackled the mask yet, nned to pluck up the courage to and find enough time to do it in one go. In the meantime I've finished off the painting on most of my armour pieces. Simple prcess which looks ok, not fantastic but grand for me. Everything was primedered with spray can primer then covered with a layer of hammer finish Hammerite. This stuff is really thick and adds a bit of texture to everything. Added the weathering with a pot of black masonry paint and wiped off with kitchen roll. Some bronze, gold and silver enamels where needed and chrome enamel for the blades. I may hit everything with a coat of laqcuer at some point but not essential.

Leg armour, shoulder armour and.........thing to cover my thing.

Haven't done the legs as they are going to need reworked to accomadte the feet I've made.

Good news is that by Biohunter Wolf is making its way across the Atlantic right now, will defnitley take more time and care getting it painted up. :)

Armour looks top notch. Well impressed with the technique throughout and particulalrly like the shoulder cannon. Everything coming together nicely.

Wow, moving real fast now, totally digging the effort and thought youve put into this , and it looks wicked also :)
