Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

Yeah, that area where they neck connects with the body is an awkward spot.

There must be a pretty harsh seam line where it connects on the original-

Thanks nick :)
I think I've got it sussed :) It looks like they ommited the top two chest vertebrae at some stage during production, which would explain the differences I'm seeing in the throat/chest area.

In some of the ref pics the tube that runs down the center of the chest is quite long at the top & in others its very short as it is in the prototype suit on the last page, which is how I've done it.

I wonder at what point they changed it? could it have been when the original moulds were damaged & re-made perhaps?

Everything was damaged in the prototype stage by AA's experimentation, so the prototype suits would show the original look and maybe the repair work excluded some parts because it was too arduous to replicate again. Or maybe it was a functionality issue when wearing it that resulted in their removal, considering the poses the performer had to do with the bent down head and curled up poses and such and accommodations for the stunt suit.

Just random thoughts and speculation.

:lol Thanks mate :) What do you reckon I could be missing with the throat Martyn??

Not a lot man, don't go looking for excuses to resculpt. :behave :facepalm :lol

There's the vertebrae thing I guess, and if you wanted to be ridiculously finicky, you could look at the angle and sweepback of the ribbed areas at the sides of the throat. You've got the front-to-bottom curve about right but the rear boundary of the ribbing sweeps back a bit more, with a more angular curve to the bottom - the bottom boundary is thus flatter. It's a pretty minor thing and you won't see it on the display piece posted above, I think that might have shrunk. Look at the monochrome ref pics from the period.

You could finesse the lower part of the pauldrons a little too. Those dive into the chest more flatly than yours; the lower parts on yours are a little bulged.

It'd be a lot of work to change that and it's definitely not *needed*. But then I know you're just looking for stuff to tinker with until you can start the moulds. Amirite? :lol

Love what your doing with this guy.. I have thought allot about using the hard foam your carving it from and now seeing you nail this with such style and skill makes me think YES.. hope your not breathing in the dust... its dusty work I suppose? WOW.. its top shelf :p

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me :) also yeh the stunt man was a bit shorter than Bolaji

I was thinking about moving the bottom of the large ribbed area up a bit, I can try to push the bottom back a bit aswell & flatten it a touch while I'm at it. The pauldrons I can do in a few minutes not a problem :)
Your half right :) its more due to having to change the order in which things are getting done & there is a bit of "I have the time so lets see what needs improving" :D Thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks for the complement :) The dust isnt bad with the stuff I'm using, its controllable but it does clog my Dyson :lol

I got the bones the other day, what a horrible job! firstly he didnt have the lamb he said he would :( & he gave me pork instead.
Boiled pork :sick!!
Because its pork, the smell is foul & I have to cut it & reshape it a bit as its not quite the right shape. Cutting it is proper nasty! stinks like burning flesh :sick not something I'll be in a hurry to do again, thats for sure.

If you paid for it, go back and ask for a refund. Guess he assumed you wouldn't notice.

Seconded. You wanted lamb and you wanted it for a reason. Pig bones will look noticeably different.

Be prepared for the lamb to stink pretty bad too though. Anything does, just try butchering a sheep or a roo some time. :(

I didnt pay for the bones :) he said he'd usually throw them away but he kept them for me.
I've had to work with what I've got, I've just got a little bit of dremmeling to do & they'll be done.

I've reduced the pauldrons already, fetteled the throat & I decided to remove one top chest vertebrae.
I'll post some pics in a bit :)

I heard they were snake vertabrea? Possibly piothon or boa? Could be wrong and know nowhere near as much about Alien as you guys.

I'm pretty sure he used the snake vertebrae down the center of the chest & possibly on the top of the head :)

Ok, some pic's:

The fin, still a bit of stuff to do here:
